Lol, thanks Connor. Should hand the thread over to ME. Hahahha.

But you chose one of my worst posts to represent me with!
Try these:

I think I give the best advice there, next to HungryBox, who gives practical tips once in awhile that drastically improve your game.

Hey, do any of you get pains in your hands after playing for a long while?
Every time I go to a tournament or I play for an extended period of time, my hand end up hurting and are bothersome to move because of it. I feel it mostly in my joints.
I want to know if it's something I should be worried about and if there is anything I can do prevent or decrease the pains.
I used to get that, it went away after awhile for me though.

I'm not exactly sure what carpal tunnel is, but from what i read it's some kind of shooting pains and cramping
but that's not what it feels like
my hands just feel kinda stiff and it hurts mildly to stretch them out
they still hurt right now and i stopped playing around 9

also
@GSUB i think you missed the point of s2j's post

@TLR

I think I see what you mean.
Help me out with it though.

Is he saying that although the theory seems to be wrong at the present moment, it doesn't mean it's totally wrong in general? (i.e. son's leg cut off = present moment | Giraffe's slowly elongated neck = In general)???

I'm willing to admit I made a mistake, I would just like some help seeing it.

Gsub man
you dun gotta respond to everything

But I want to.

You contradicted yourself.

first you say

Then you say

Generations* =/= Generation

Scientific Theories
in the modern world
are hypothesis that have undergone many tests and studies etc. and have came up positive and is generally accepted by the scientific community as a whole. They are then Scientific Theories until proven otherwise.

And what you said was just kinda ridiculous...

you miss the big picture.

smashing your hands in a grinder for generations won't have the kids have grinded hands, that's what Lamarck essentially believed. It was a SCIENTIFIC THEORY. They are backed by
copious amounts of evidence, can be believed by the general scientific community (like how most believed in Lamarck's bull**** theory" but can generally never be considered 100% the truth. Some breakthrough in modern thought can turn a theory up side down

scientific theories don't have to have undergone tests/studies to be theories. All they have to do is

A. Make predictions about some aspect of our world/nature/the universe

and

B. Be testable (in theory)

you don't even have to technically have the ability to test them in reality.

of course, the good ones are usually tested in some form.

A hypothesis is an educated guess, based on observation.

A scientific theory summarizes a hypothesis or group of hypotheses that have been supported with repeated testing. A theory is valid as long as there is no evidence to dispute it. Therefore, theories can be disproven. Basically, if evidence accumulates to support a hypothesis, then the hypothesis can become accepted as a good explanation of a phenomenon. One definition of a theory is to say it's an accepted hypothesis.

A law generalizes a body of observations. At the time it is made, no exceptions have been found to a law. Scientific laws explain things, but they do not describe them. One way to tell a law and a theory apart is to ask if the description gives you a means to explain 'why'.

Modern Science has it's flaws.
And I get what you're saying Johnny. That is one flawed Scientific Theory, but the process works so well for many other things, that it won't be leaving any time soon just from one upset.

And TGL, perfect definition for a Scientific Theory, exactly what I was saying.

@Connor: Yeah, I DO need advice, but I do know a lot about matchups and Jigglypuff, I have the knowledge, but as we all know, knowledge doesn't always correlate to skill, or else M2K would be untouchable with all his frame rate data and whatnot.

you should take a page from socrates' intellectual humility and realize you don't know anything. that's the first step to learning something. and stop johning for yourself with "knowledge doesn't always correlate to skill." if you were exactly as good as how much knowledge you had, you still wouldn't be one of the top 30 players in socal

gsub the thing is
if you really knew that much, you really would be that good
which is why the top players are better pillars of knowledge than the other players. because they understand more about the game
i thought i knew everything too, so i dont blame you or anything (everyone goes through that stage) but once you get better you'll just see more than you did before

lol GSUB getting pwnt. Something about the neck of giraffes to getting pwnt about melee knowledge. Only on socal boards.

btw i think giraffe's necks go something like this:
The giraffes with longer necks back then were able to reach leaves higher up more easily therefore their genetic makeup was more "fit" (an actual evolutionary term) to survive. The giraffes with these genes therefore passed their "long neck" genes down to their offspring thus continuing the growth of necks. The trees also have fitness so their selection mechanic of growing taller to avoid animals eating their leaves only further fueled the evolutionary mechanic of the giraffes. BILD3-Evolutionary Biology @ UCSD

didn't azn_lep get his first account banned for typing in orange? He told me a story like that once.

oh btw Kira ready to **** some east coast marths tomorrow?

I've been wondering this for a while:

Is human advancement having a negative impact on us in evolutionary sense? (Note: I'm way pro human advancement, but I can't get this question out of my head)

The way I see it, natural selection no longer applies to us since our brainpower has given everything we possibly need to survive. I have terrible terrible vision, and there's no doubt in my mind that if I was born in caveman days (or whatever) Id be dead fast, but lucky for me I was born in the modern age with glasses and contacts, and without fear from being eaten by a lion. I inherited this bad vision from my parents (along with my brothers and sisters), who inherited it from their parents, and so on.

So while i sow my seed across the land, it is very likely that any kids I may have will have bad vision, but survive due to the era they live in. So by breeding, will I be helping push mankind into a gradual spiral down to blindness, or am I just trippin, and the ratio of good sight to bad sight people will stay relatively unchanged.

Same question for diseases/obesity/etc

You just gave a reason why NS still applies. Mental capacity, basically being smart and capable, is associated with fitness today for the most part. If you actually observe societies though, arbitrary human qualities such as looks still matter when finding a mate. IMO, natural selection is still VERY present today just not the kind where its like "whoever hunts meat survives."

Your case can be fixed but also through a selection aspect

bad eyesight -> fixed through surgery -> requires money -> requires education/investments -> even if one inherited money someone at one point or another worked or devised an idea to get money (was smart)

Our genetic deficiencies can be overcome with intelligence which is what separates us from lesser creatures.

that's what science is for silly

it would be easy to argue that human advancement is having a long-term negative impact on the things around us that will take more human "advancement" to "correct"

what east coast marths are coming? pretty sure it's only m2k
hey mm my marth, finally figured out the sheik matchup again

What if it's a child who's parents have money? What if we had some socialist healthcare system and this got fixed
lol
. This is all null anyways, since Im asking if the deficiency is getting worse, not if we can overcome them... And im not defining natural selection here. Of course natural selection still applies in some ways, such as wanting to find a good looking mate, and our instinct to not jump head-first towards fire, but you know what Im talking about, so why bring it up.

Our genetic deficiencies can be overcome with intelligence which is what separates us from lesser creatures.
orly? See bold above.

Science gives us knowledge of the index of refraction of glasses and plastics, which lets us use their properties to make glasses and contacts to correct our vision, but my nuts are still gonna spread word that I have ****ty vision. Same with diseases and ****. Course you can argue that it doesn't matter since we can live through it, but thats not what I was asking.

Bold part: Im talking about our human anatomy. You could argue about global warming or some bull, but thats not what Im talking about.

I guess genetics will eventually come into play and fix this (if thats what you meant by science).

It's a personal preference. Your opinion has been noted, not sure if you're trying to get me to change it, or if you're really just stating what you think.

you should take a page from socrates' intellectual humility and realize you don't know anything. that's the first step to learning something.
Okay. This is actual good advice, although to others it may look like you're being a d***.

and stop johning for yourself with "knowledge doesn't always correlate to skill." if you were exactly as good as how much knowledge you had, you still wouldn't be one of the top 30 players in socal
Never said I would be a top player if it did correlate (although yes, I see how it was implied with my M2K statement).

I hear ya, and thanks for understanding, and admitting that you've been where I am now.
I'm not going to throw away everything I know, or say that "everything I know" is EVERYTHING that CAN be known.
I know a lot, but not everything, and I would LOVE to learn it all (and see more than I did before), or at least as much as i can.
Thanks :]

Natural selection doesn't have to be "natural." In general evolutionary biologists speak of "selection pressures." Obviously there are still selection pressures today, but because of society and medicine etc., they are very different from what they were thousands of years ago; many things are now irrelevant, like the vision thing that was brought up. And if there is little or no selection pressure on something, it tends to atrophy over the course of generations, like the eyes of moles. So I believe that yes, anything that our technology has the ability to fix reliably and does, the 'deficiency' can only get 'worse' over time, unless you want to get into eugenics.

Also, Socrates is a badass. When he was asked what punishment he should receive after being convicted for 'corrupting the youth of Athens,' he suggested he should be given free meals and pension for the rest of his life.
