First, let's see a little general timeless timeline:

8 bit 2D
16 bit 2D
Failed 3D (Virtual Boy)
3-Dimensional (Different than 3D)
Next gen 3-Dimensional
Next next gen 3-Dimensional
First Legit 3D

So what should we expect next? It could range from just an improved version of the new 3D all the way to virtual reality. For all we know, we could be in true virtual reality in 20 years. We could play AS a war hero in space then.

Thoughts?

Virtual Boy 2.0 which is strapped to your face, has hand and foot sensors, and a floorbase to stand on to simulate walking/running.

We're going to be plugged into the Matrix, obviously.

I saw a giant mesh ball you would walk in in E3. The developer said it was too big to be in a regular house. Think we'd see them in arcades and whatnot?

MLG 2011, Halo Reach in one of those.

Arcades are dead.

“It really makes me feel the speed at which the history of video games is unfolding — like, ‘We’ve really made it this far, huh?’ You have a living, breathing world you can touch right in your hands. I think we’ve finally gone from an era of constructing virtual worlds from pixels to one where the world is truly, honestly there. If I had to sum up the sort of game I’d like to make, I would simply call it ‘the next game,’ because the 3DS marks the arrival of the ‘next platform.’”

Easy, after 3D comes the holodeck. Seriously, haven't any of you ever seen Star Trek Next Generation?

Arcades are dead.
For some reason Arcades are still kicking in Japan. Then again, I've noticed that the Japanese tend to have very different tastes in games from the west. I remember reading that Sega is going to try and revive western arcade with some kind of new super-awesome arcade board but these are the same guys who screwed up so many times that they were forced to drop out of the console market.

Arcades are still around over here, I've seen plenty of games with PS2+ caliber graphics.

your minds are alreadly being controled I have a question? what if people stopped flooding the children with f***ing video games and cartoons and let them play pretend???? what happened to the days when I played pokemon with my best friend and I cracked my skull into a tree really hard because I was spinning to fast because I was dragonite? I still pretend even if i'm 17 I walk around making music going do do dooooo dad da ba da. and stuff watchiing out for ninjas.

sure I played pokemon like crazy when I was little but I still loved playing with my legos and cars. also it was ONLY saturday morning cartoons and I only watched them for maybe an hour or 2 depending if I liked it.

d*** now kids watch tv 5 hours a day even if it sucks WTf those aren't cartoons runroader is 60x the cartoonmost little kids have ever seen. they rarely even f***ing laugh at spoge bob roadrunner made you think up crazy new fun ideas that that coytte could use to caugh him and stuff.

cartoons, games, and morals suck compared to when I was a kid.to prove my point duke nukeem vs random new xbox shooter.

new gen. sucks also I don't care if you are the most hardcore brawler ever you have to say SSB>brawl it's the truth if someone said SSB>ssbm I will not disargee they have a legit reason even if I think melee is better they are right.

They're still around, it's just that their popularity is waaaaaay down. At the start of the year a ton of Game Works had to close because they couldn't make enough to stay open.

True, but then again when they were popular home consoles had not peaked.

^Exactly, once home consoles came back we no longer needed to go out to the arcades with pockets full of quarters to play our favorite games. We could just buy them and then pop them into our consoles whenever we wanted to play them, thus eliminating the need for arcades.

What if Nintendo went back to it's roots? Not 2-D, but 1-D... crafty ones
I loled

back to the arcade thing, there was a wearhouse near where i live that some guy named Larry rented and he got a shiz load if TVs and consoles and he called it Game Knights (GK). 10 bucks an entry, he made like $600 in one day MINIMUM!! It was technically an arcade :3

When they figure out the technology to make virtual reality, u know for a FACT that someone is going to figure out how to use it for porn...

Virtual tripping.

If your character trips in-game, the ankle-bracelet activates a shock that spazzes out your foot muscles, making lose your balance and trip.

It's a good idea, trust me.
