You won't see Ganon/Pika teams rising out of the woodwork because there aren't many Ganons or Pikas.

Personally, I think discussing how two mid tiers just won a very stacked teams tournament is pretty interesting.
i think someone already made the arguement of pitting them vs better teams. so let's go with that but valid point nonetheless.

Yeah, just from experiencing RockCrock/Harriettheguy (Ganon/Fox) matches in teams, I already knew Ganon/Pika would be good. Only I would imagine Pikachu be even more annoying than Fox.

i still think Fox would be a better partner than Pikachu but either one works. Fox is like an upgraded Pikachu though
What makes Fox better than Pikachu in teams?!
It seems like Pika is harder to edgeguard and has a stronger upsmash than Fox.
Fox and Pika both gimp the crap out of people.
I don't see what makes Fox the better partner for teams.

I think pika is a suitable partner for ganon, moreso than fox

people know how to fight vs fox, 1 hit from ganon at mid percents with a fox teammate=death
and pika just gets around ganon's range and weaves in and out much better.

edit:
only good pikachus though.

better approach+2v1 ability+easier edgeguard setups+damage potential

except pika can go offstage and gimp 2v1 and then make it back safe
Ya that strength is really really good.. Fox going off-stage is a lot more risker than Pika going off-stage. I mean I got saved multiple times during sets because of this. And saving a Ganon really helps a lot in teams. Also I never really need to go off-stage to save a Pika since his recovery is amazing, all I need to do is hit opponents off-stage to disrupt their edgeguard.

watching axe/kage vs hbox/chillin made a few things apparent to me. all of these are debatable though, just IMO.

- fox and ganon are MUCH more exploitable via combos and edge guards than jigglypuff/pikachu
- fox and ganon are much worse at saving their teammates than jigglypuff/pikachu
- fox and ganondorf get pinned much more easily than jigglypuff/pikachu

tbh i think the most ridiculous team at this point would be the pokemon fun pals. what team wants to fight both jigglypuff and pikachu? jigglypuff goes after sheik and pikachu goes after fox? peachand falcon are completely worthless? in my head it just seems like a really good potential pairing.

axe and hungrybox were ****ing ridiculous on that FC stream. jesus.

I agree with those 3 bullets. Hungrybox is to me, without a doubt, the most valuable teammate anyone could ever have (unless they have much better chemistry with another player/character for whatever reason). I don't know how much chemistry puff and pika would have though, I'd like to see that.

bluezaft and I beat darkrain and jesi one time with team pokepals. It's an annoying team.

Doc doesn't mind either of those matchups.

PC and I were one stock away from beating Haxbox at Zenith in LSF. Wasn't recorded tho.

I think if pika+jiggs can do their pokemon things and get gimps, then they work well. I don't see a lot of team synergy other than "both of these chars are really good in teams and don't really need their teammate to help them often" so they're free to do their own things most of the time. But i suppose that is enough.

My main reservation with it is i worry it relies a bit much on jiggs hitting rests, or pika/jiggs hitting gimps. Neither char does a whole lot of damage (unless people are running into jiggs bair over and over). Feels like as long as the other team tries to stick close together and control the middle, jiggs/pika is less scary. The less opportunities to gimp, the more pika/jiggs will be trading damage, and i don't know many chars that like trading less than them.

You do get to run around as 2 pokemon though, which is pretty awesome.

edit: sheik+doc would be a little scary for that team imoimo.

This is the same problem I have with Fox/Puff, actually. It still works, but this is their weakness...can't get into trading fights and you have to be a really good hunter once people get into kill ranges.

But Fox can actually get reliable grabs for rests so you don't need damage as much. Pikachu not so much

That's why I don't understand how hbox and plup do so well; they basically forfeit grab/rest as a tactic. I guess no one can kill them and you can't fight samus or puff in teams.

i can understand it. grab rest loses potency against better players and/or certain character combinations. how many times did you get hit by grab/rest from chillin and hbox at FC? is fox's grab not good enough?

plup has excellent, way above average ground and spatial control and lives a very long time, both of which are invaluable in teams, but more importantly it lets jigglypuff take the role of air control. it's an unusual approach to the team dynamic but it works well for them.

DoH: Grab to rest is by far the most overrated "rest combo". The rest is weaker if you does it from a grab and it is not hard to rest after a Dair/Fair/Bair/Uair/Smash attack/exc and every char has tons of stuff that works perfect into a rest and it is actually not hard.

No puff main except for Darc is even close to how Puff should play with rest in teams tbh. Hbox is getting better for every tournament on this part though so he might be up there on day.

Rest is weaker from a grab? o_O

I'm not sure chillin even grabbed me the entire set. Then again, that's not really his style, he's more falling uairs and drills

Hbox/Chillin vs G$/Swift says otherwise.
