Submissions are closed! All Masterpieces will be used, and Captain Falcon will reuse his animations from Ultimate.

Now that our pre-order bonus is out of the way, it's time to roll in DLC properly!

Job 154: Submit a post-launch paid stage!
Unlike Onett, players will have to pay to access this stage. I'll allow any franchise from any of our third-parties to make it in, as well as Nintendo games. For this job, you won't need to submit music, since that'll be its own job.

Job 155: Submit a third-party fighter from one of our companies!
This fighter can be from a new franchise or one already represented - For example, in Sega's case, both Knuckles and Joker would be acceptable.

Third-Party Fighter: Red (Angry Birds; Rovio/Sega)

Angry Birds might have been a recent Sega acquisition, but its legacy cannot go understated. I previously submitted Red before the Rovio buyout, but I still think he has a lot of potential and could be fun in a game like this.

Job #155: Sakura Shinguji (Sakura Wars)
Sakura Shinguji.png
Sakura Wars is a 1996 tactical RPG released in 1996 for the Sega Saturn, dubbed as a "dramatic adventure" that mimics anime, with the main story taking place across 10 episodes. Sakura is one of the members of the Imperial Combat Revue's Flower Division, a group that fights demons in steam-powered mechs, with their base also fronting as a theater. The franchise since then has had a somewhat understated but nontheless long-lasting legacy all the way into 2020, with many sequels coming out and many crossover and spin-off appearances in the years since the first game.

What separates Sakura Wars from most tactical RPG's (at the time, anyway) was how it incorporated dating-sim and visual novel elements.
In the visual novel part of the gameplay, Ogami, the character the player primarily controls, navigates the theater in between battles, during which the player is at the mercy of the Live & Interactive Picture System (LIPS). When Ogami is faced with critical choices during conversations with both members of the Flower Division and supporting characters, dialogue trees are displayed with a time limit for the player to input. Depending on the type of response, the character Ogami is conversing with may respond positively or negatively, impacting their relationship with Ogami and future interactions. Other actions within LIPS include holding the cursor over parts of a character's portrait to trigger internal monologues and varying responses from the characters. Each main heroine has different personality quirks that must be taken into consideration while talking with them, with correct responses raising their "Trust".

During the actual battles, the Flower Division fights demons using machines called Kobu. Each unit has their own turn, with each turn allowing two actions. These actions include "Attack", "Defend", "Move", "Deathblow" (a critical strike that can one-shot any normal enemy), Charge (store energy for later), and Heal (which restores the unit's HP). Different units specialize in different skills such as support actions, melee attacks, or ranged attacks. Units have varying movement abilities based on available space and unit statistics, as well as a separate attack range based on their weapon type. Actions taken during LIPS sequences with members of the Flower Division directly impact battles; raised trust during LIPS segments grant statistic increases and subsequently improve combat ability. You lose when you either fail to meet certain conditions for victory or when the HP on Ogami's Kobu reaches zero (but you can continue afterwards and there's no permadeath).

If we were to translate the LIPS system into Smash, one way to go about would be to have Ogami appear as part of Sakura's down special, and the player has a few seconds to pick one of Ogami's attacks and each successful attack would raise Sakura's trust. The amount of trust Sakura has also gives her two Final Smashes, similar to Ryu and Ken.

For the new stage, I’ll nominate Saffron City.
SSBU-Saffron City.jpg

I’ll nominate Simon as Castlevania has some history with Nintendo, and we don’t have a playable Konami fighter yet.
Simon Belmont's Spirit Artwork ripped from Ultimate. Originally from Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls.

Crash lands into battle
Crash Bandicoot just seems like a pure transition from platforming to Smash, he has a long history of cool moves and attacks to reference from, we already have content for his series so he can be a nice fit in the roster, and he is just the most Chad video game character of all time. Nothing much to say, Crash is cool, has some cool stuff to reference, and fits into Smash really well, almost as if he is designed for it.

  1. Crash - 23
  2. Red - 12
  3. Simon / Sakura - 5
  4. Frogger - 3
Taking a rather N. Sane lead, Crash Bandicoot will be Smash from Scratch's first third-party DLC fighter!

Job 156: Submit a moveset for Crash!
Please include all four specials and a Final Smash.

Job 157: Submit a stage for Crash!
Any location from the Crash Bandicoot series will be allowed - I'll allow multiple interpretations of the same areas. Do not include music this time around, since that'll be its own job.

Job 157:
N. Sanity Beach
1687023894794.png
N. Sanity Island is the first level from Crash Bandicoot (1996) and it takes place on the shores of N. Sanity Island (especially the beach and jungle).

It's design is based on N. Sanity Trilogy games with cues taken from Crash 4 like Crash's house in the background.

As a stage, it would be a side scrolling stage and it would start from the beach area and it would go through the jungle. The stage hazards are pits, enemies and the rolling boulder that appears at the near of the end of the stage.
Overall, the stage has the same layout as the first level from Crash, but it's 2.5D and it's shortened a bit to make it as a stage.

Special Moves
B & B + Forwards: Spin
; Pressing B once performs a short, quick spin that reflects projectiles and sends opponents flying when Crash is close (10%, medium knockback). Mashing B turns into the Death Tornado Spin (20%, OK knockback), which can also help Crash glide a good distance, but trades the reflector for super armor against weaker attacks.
B + Up : Crate; Crash jumps off a different crate that can be selected by holding B.
  • Basic crates fall down and hit the opponent (6%, small knockback)
  • TNT Crates explode after 3 seconds (20%, medium knockback) or when attacked (10%, OK knockback)
  • Nitro Crates blow up immediately and send Crash and adjacent opponents flying (20%, medium knockback)
  • When a selected crate type is already present, Crash instead jumps off a metal crate with an arrow that appears for a second; the jump height is doubled. In any case, Crash can move freely after using this special, but he can’t use it again after the metal crate.
B + Down : Supercharged Belly Flop; Crash Belly Flops into an Aku Aku Crate, summoning Aku Aku (who can only appear once per stock). Aku Aku reduces damage taken by ¼, but has a 20-second timer before he disappears (stronger attacks cause him to disappear sooner; Crash is invincible for a bit afterwards, but he can’t summon Aku Aku again until after his next K.O.). If Aku Aku is already present or disappears, Crash simply Belly Flops onto the ground, causing a shockwave (18%, OK knockback), though this becomes smaller and weaker with consecutive use.

Final Smash: Invincible Aku Aku; Crash dons a golden Aku Aku mask and is invincible for 10 seconds as Nitro crates fall on top of him, exploding in a large radius (30% each, far knockback)

Crash also turns into an angel with a didgeridoo when he loses a Stamina battle.

Taunts:
Up: Crash does the first part of his victory dance
Side: Crash does the second part of his victory dance
Down: Crash performs the final part of his victory dance

Winposes:
1: "Yeee-HAW!" Crash squats for a second, and then performs his victory animation against bosses in the very first game
2: Crash vomits a Crystal out of his mouth and holds it up in the air
3: Crash's post-gem collecting animation from the first game

Applause: Crash sports a disappointed look as boxes endlessly fall on his head
Icon: The “C” symbol from the Titans games
Boxing Ring Title: N. Sane Marsupial
Star K.O.: https://youtu.be/KXVdYE3ynSg?t=17
Victory Music: A shortened version of the Time Twister theme
Kirby Hat: A replica Aku Aku mask

N. Sanity Beach
A long slightly slopped platform that players fight on. Its a stationary stage, with crash's house and the first level of CB1 in the background. There are crates on this stage and some of them are TNT crates which can be used to hurt foes.

Crash Moveset
  • Neutral Special: Spin
    • I mean, what else could it be? This move has two variants - The tapped variant is a quick reflector which deals mediocre damage and fixed knockback, while the held variant allows Crash to spin to the left or right while slowing his descent if in mid-air at the cost of no longer being able to reflect projectiles and suffering more endlag at the end of the spin.
  • Side Special: Polar
    • Crash boards Polar the baby polar bear and rides him forwards. Like Steve's Minecart, Crash can hop off Polar at any time, but Polar can't hitgrab enemies or turn around - Touching Polar just deals damage/knockback. This allows Polar to be used as a makeshift projectile, though this isn't recommended due to the move's startlag and the fact that only one Polar can be out per Crash.
  • Up Special: Arrow Crate
    • Crash bounces off an Arrow Crate, which lingers in the air until Crash uses the Up Special again or an opponent destroys it. Notably, Crash does not enter freefall upon using this move.
  • Down Special: TNT Crate
    • Crash spawns a TNT Crate beneath himself, which will explode around three seconds after deployment. Notably, Crash can launch the TNT with his Spin, but should he get caught in the explosion, it'll damage him too.
  • Final Smash: Nitro-Fueled Finale
    • Aku Aku attaches himself to Crash's face as he dashes forwards, trapping any hit opponent in a cinematic. The cinematic depicts Crash spinning around a dimensional rift like crazy, slamming into opponents to rack up damage. Coming to a stop, he dives through a wormhole as a mass of Nitro Crates fall onto the opponent, exploding and launching them back to the stage as the cinematic ends.
Crash Stage: Time Twister

Hailing from Crash 3, this machine travels through time itself and brings fighters to four different areas from the Crash series - N. Sanity Beach (1), Bear It (2), Orient Express (3), and A Hole in Space (4). Each has their own unique layout to deal with.

I have something a little different for Crash Bandicoot. Being our first true DLC character, I feel like we should do something a bit different from a traditional moveset:

Down Special: TNT Crate
You're probably wondering why I placed the down special as my first move. Well, that's because it is also Crash's most important tool in his kit. By using his down special, Crash can drop a TNT Crate onto the ground. The TNT crate has many practical uses for Crash to use. He can jump on the TNT Crate like a trampoline to access higher areas and gain a bit more recovery, he can carry the TNT Crate as a heavy object to acts as an explosive, or it can act as a proximity mine for other opponents, a very versatile move. However what makes it distinct is how it reacts to Crash's other attacks, as most of them react in a unique way to the TNT Crate.

Neutral Special: Fruit Bazooka
By using his neutral special, Crash grabs his fruit bazooka from Crash 3 to shoot a wumpa fruit in a straight line. Line Banjo's neutral special however, by holding the special you can move around and continuously shoot fruit at the same time. However, by following that action up with performing his down special, Crash aims his bazooka diagonally and infuses his wumpa fruits with TNT, creating explosive pods of Bumpa fruit from Crash 4: It's About Time, this fruit shoots up in an arc and explodes causing big damage if it collides, it also explodes any TNT Crate in it's proximity, creating a bigger explosion, the time needed to unload and properly aim the Bumpa makes it very difficult to use and master, but very satisfying if you can.

Side Special: Death Tornado Spin
The most notable interaction with TNT comes with Crash's Death Tornado Spin. At first it's a simple spin attack like classic Crash, but if a TNT get's into the tornado's range is gets sucked in, increasing the momentum and range of Crash's spin attack. This latter becomes comparable to a roided up version of DK's tornado attack, but it comes with the benefit of when Crash ends the move, the TNT sucked in will launch out as a projectile. While strong, the TNT sucked in will count down and so if used for too long Crash will get an explosive surprise in the face, so be careful. When used properly, however, it is not only a very strong move but a potential horizontal recovery option as well.

Up Special: Arrow Crate
A unique aim able recovery, the Arrow Crate has Crash spawn the titular Crate that he can freely aim in all directions before jumping in that direction, it's a straight shot and Crash can't move until the jump ends leaving him vulnerable for a moment. Crash however, can instead launch a TNT Crate instead by deploying the down special just before launching himself, creating difficult mind games with the opponent as to whether he will launch himself or a bomb, one of the most unique recoveries in the game.

Other notable interactions:

Down Air
Crash performs the Super Belly Flop, which sends him straight down to the ground, if he lands on a TNT Crate Crash will be launched up greatly with some damage, a good but risky potential mix-up if you can pull it off.

Shield: Aku Aku Mask
Aku Aku shields Crash when he uses his shield attack, Aku Aku is unique in that he can reflect any projectile and explosion based attack regardless of power, however he can only take a maximum of 3 normal hits before he breaks, no more, more less, and he takes a while to come back (signified by his classic sounds from the games) this unique shield can make Crash excellent against projectile spam but poor against melee focused fighters.

When Crash grabs a Super Star, he will use the Aku Aku invincibility theme instead of the normal theme and will gain a permanent projectile reflecting effect.

Final Smash: N. Sane Escapades
A cinematic final Smash, Crash actually doesn't do much in this Final Smash though, instead he just gets squished by a boulder, and anyone who is unfortunate enough to also get squished will get treated to a cinematic Final Smash when they will they get chased by said boulder while Crash safely escapes via Bonus platform. After the Final Smash all fighters caught will be buried and suffer heavy damage while Crash returns on the Bonus Platform no worse for wear, in fact he can get off this platform in the same manner one would go off a standard KO platform, so he ends up better off than he was last time.

  • My Crash moveset will be used.
  • DarkVortex's take on N. Sanity Beach will be Crash's home stage!
  • All Animal Crossing trophies will be used.
  • Pupp135's Saffron City music will be used.

Job 161: Submit twelve alts for Crash!
Please note that his It's About Time is the design we will be using. I won't allow any major deviations from this base, but I'll allow costumes inspired by them. For example, while the Crash of the Titans model wouldn't be allowed, a costume that gives IAT Crash tribal tattoos would be.

Job 162: Submit up to four music tracks for the Animal Crossing franchise!

Job 163: Submit an assist for the Crash Bandicoot franchise!
This can be any character from the Crash franchise (barring Spyro characters). Please include an image and a description of what they'd do.

REALLY late on this one, but submissions are closed!
  • Please vote for Crash's alts here: https://strawpoll.com/7rnzm5llWyO
  • Northsouthmap's Animal Crossing music will be used.
  • Dr. Cortex will be Crash's assist by default. While I'm talking about it, please remember to include images when submitting an assist.
Job 164: Submit animations for Crash!

Job 165: Submit up to three Mii costumes for Crash's pack!

These may be linked to any Activision property (including Crash Bandicoot itself), but can also be linked to any of the following themes:
  • Mutant
  • Box
  • Gems
  • 3D platformers
I encourage you to get creative with these themes! In addition, costumes from outside our list of companies are allowed, though they won't confirm future content for that company. Feel free to include a music track alongside costumes if you want - This isn't mandatory, but I'm putting the option out there.

We will be voting on 5-6 of these costumes instead of adding them all as in previous costume jobs.
