I'm not opposed to a theme, but it may prove tricky with retro tracks and returning characters.

Fits the themes of flying (Sunshine Airport), plants (Mushroom Gorge), eating (Namco Circuit) and retro throwbacks (Excitebike Arena)

Door Potion:

In a sense, you could call it a sort of "teleport" item. When using this item, it'll create a door that will teleport you to a Subspace version of the track you're on, but it'll linger and catch other racers, as well! After the door disappears, you have 8 seconds in Subspace until you're sent back to the real world. While in Subspace, you are completely immune to all items from the Real World, and items thrown in Subspace will not affect those in the Real World. This fits the "Retro" theme of the Retro Cup.

Discussion:
I'm all for a challenge, so I say bring on the theming. I'm sure we could come up with something only old-age novelists on LSD could think of, and have a real blast with it.

It would represent Classic throwback to old games like Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart Wii and the older Classics like ExciteBike Arena along with Namco circuit, which is Namco's age of Arcades.

Discussion:
I don't think so. It would cause side effects while working. Besides, we could use other themes like Modern, it would look cool.
