Alright, it's time to finish the vote!

Let's look at the results:

Classic: 5 points
Series: 21 points
80s: 12 points
Second-party: 11 points
Villain: 4 points
2010s: 3 points
Arcade: 16 points

And with that, our next 3 character prompts are decided: we'll be doing a new series to submit characters from, an arcade character and an 80s character.

We'll start off with the highest-voted one:

Job #147: Submit a new series.......again

So yeah! We're once again putting a twist on the formula and making it so that we're submitting and voting on series and then submitting characters from said series. This is done so that we can figure out who might be the best representative for series with multiple viable candidates left. I feel that there are still plenty of those kinds of series left, so why don't we do this again?

Two things to keep in mind:

-This prompt is meant for series that aren't in yet

-It's also meant for series that have more than one viable candidate for inclusion. To use my example from last time, if you submitted, say, Bonanza Bros., then what's the point? There's only one viable candidate, everyone knows who's gonna win! This is for series that we can have an actual discussion on.

New series submission:
Golden Axe

(Credit and Shout-out to @Darkonedagger)

Golden Axe

A classic sega beat-em up. Golden Axe has a large number of sequels and spin offs to pull content from. It usually makes it's way into these Sega crossovers in one way or another. It still receives merch to this day.

In terms of characters, the most likely options are the original heroes: the dwarf Gilius Thunderhead, the heroic barbarian Axe Battler and the amazonian Tyris Flare, along with their opponent, the villainous Death Adder. But there are other options we could pull from the later games including Chronos the Beastman and Dora the Centaur, among others.
I think it counts for the job, amirite?

Job #147: Shining

1644600039224.png

Shining is a series of RPG games developed by Sega. While the first entry, Shining in the Darkness, was a first-person dungeon crawler, the franchise quickly evolved into a tactical RPG and then later into an action RPG series. Some of the games are loosely connected but most of the time, each new title is its own standalone story.

With nearly 40 games with large and ever-changing casts, it's not easy to point out a single character to "represent" the franchise as a whole, especially as individual titles vary so much. However, it's still a long-lasting franchise with enduring popularity and a colorful array of options to choose from so a series job would benefit Shining greatly.

Job 147

Etrian Odyssey

Etrian Odyssey is a First Person JRPG developed by Atlus with a character customization system and a unique feature of having to map out the dungeons yourself as you play it. Etrian Odyssey has seen some good success in the past and It even has an official crossover-ish game with Persona being Persona Q.
one of its main features is the wide variety of classes and jobs and since no one job is more important than the other any of the jobs could be a good choice.

Capsule submission time!!!

- Wild Woody
Series: Wild Woody
System debut: SEGA CD/MEGA CD
First Appearance: Wild Woody (??/??/1995)

Description:
Wild Woody is main character of 1995 Sega CD game of the same name. Woody is a pencil that was revived by magic totem and heads for adventure to save the world from evil threats. He is also capable for creating living sketches and erasing the enemies, since he is a living pencil that was left by Dusty, who is an adventurer residing on one of Indonesian islands (Notably Sumatra) and he left a pencil, which it became alive after magic totem striking him down.
He experienced his adventures during the classic game and he defeated the threat that wanted to take over the world.
His game was animated really poorly and I believe that CGI in cutscenes aged really poorly comparing to CGI Animations during today's times.
Well, now Wild Woody belongs to your collection of Capsule Toys, which is very cool. I hope he won't be rendered like in his games. Ugh.

- LOPIT (SEGA Joypolis)
Series: SEGA Joypolis
System debut: Real life
First appearance: SEGA Joypolis (July 24th, 2012)

Description:
LOPIT, short for Live-show Operator Prototype by Interaction Technology, is a virtual character at SEGA's indoor amusement park, Joypolis. She was first introduced in July 14th, 2012, when Joypolis was reopened. She is a digital being that really likes to entertain visitors with her dynamic acrobating and she really puts you a smile on your face. However, she glitches sometimes and she causes havoc across the SEGA Joypolis, which it isn't a good thing for viewers. Good thing that she can control herself something, which is a redeeming quality.
Her personality is shown as eerie-happy-looking girl that really likes people and she loves entertaining random people.
She is now joining your collection of Capsule Toys, which it's a good part that she doesn't glitch since she is a toy or maybe... (Who knows?)

Question: Is LOPIT allowed?
Because she is owned by SEGA and we also allow non-VG media based on SEGA, so I wanted to implement LOPIT as Capsule Toy.

For a Sega crossover fighting game, we have a distinct lack of any fighting game reps aside from Virtua Fighter. Ya know what, that’s something I think we should fix. And what better way to introduce another fighting game series than by reuniting Virtua Fighter with its sister series from the 90s.

Job #147: Fighting Vipers

FD045227-2B40-4AB1-A947-013C320EB468.png

Yeah, Virtua Fighter wasn’t the only 3D fighting game Sega worked in the 90s. Considering VF pioneered the 3D fighter genre, you bet your ass Sega was gonna capitalize on that success with more games utilizing that technology. One of the more notable examples of which was Fighting Vipers, released in 1996 for arcades and getting ported to the Sega Saturn that same year. The gameplay of Fighting Vipers is very similar to that of Virtua Fighter, but with a unique armor mechanic and focusing on a wackier cast of characters. Unlike VF which places a heavy focus on real-world martial arts, FV’s roster mostly consists of characters who are not traditionally trained martial artists, such as the fashion designer Honey, the sk8r girl Grace, a bear named Kumachan, and goddamn Pepsiman. This leads to each character having their own unique fighting style that would help them stand out amongst the other brawlers on our roster.

Job #147: New Series - Virtual-ON

Virtual-ON is a series of action shooter/3D fighting game-hybrid video games developed by SEGA AM3 and created by Juro Watari since it's first installment, Cyber Troopers Virtual-ON, originally released for arcades in 1995, featuring Virtuaroids (or VRs in short), which are essentially large fighting mecha robots decked out with weaponry that players control in fast-paced battles against enemy Virtuaroids with their twin-stick controller, in which two joysticks are complemented by an array of controls (developed and released specifically to be used with it's SEGA Saturn port). It achieved three sequels: Oratorio Tangram, Force and Marz, alongside a collaboration with Dengeki Bunko's light novel series, A Certain Magical Index, for the game "A Certain Magical Virtual-ON" in 2018 and a recent compilation re-release of the trilogy, "Cyber Troopers Virtual-ON Masterpiece: 1995-2001", which was released for the PlayStation 4 exclusively in Japan on 2019.

Despite not lasting long, the series was quite successful during it's time, thanks to its Gundam-like characters designed by the famous artist Hajime Katoki himself, and highly unique control scheme in which mechas are actually controlled like industrial machinery, thus revolutionising the use of the twin-stick control system in video games. It garnered a pretty decent cult following and SEGA seems to like referencing it pretty often, as a playable version of the original arcade game can be found in Yakuza Kiwami 2, and some of the more recognizable mechs, such as Temjin and Fei-Yen themselves, showed up in crossovers such as Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 and Senko no Ronde 2. Related merchandise include plastic models, trading figurines, light novels and audio drama CDs.

Considering that Virtual-ON was a fighting game based on mechas (which are so cool), it has a huge variety of characters in both fighter/assist jobs (at least around Ridley's size in-game and a shared boost ability for dashes/flight; other specific model variants can be used as alternate costumes), stages (like Distorted Shrine), bosses (Z-Gradt) and awesome music to bring up for Battle of AGES, such as (a list is big, but those below are examples):
  • Temjin - The series' poster mascot, who is an all-around fighter armed with a laser blade that can be transformed into a energy rifle and used as a flying surfboard for a powerful gliding ram attack, even using large Power Bombs to blow up enemies/opponents. Credits goes to OrpheusTelos OrpheusTelos and KneeOfJustice99 KneeOfJustice99 for their older posts.
  • Fei-Yen - Another iconic mascot, who wields a beam rapier/bowgun-combo weapon and is very agile/fast, despite having weak armor/defense. When her health drops below 50% or severely damaged, Fei-Yen will glow golden and enter the "Hyper Mode" state, gaining increased speed and attack damage (much like Terry's Desperation Move gimmick in execution, but only buffs her stats).
  • Apharmd - A soldier-based Virtuaroid, who is mainly suited for mid-to-close range combat, being equipped with modified dual tonfas called "Tongfers", which he can use to create gusts of wind and a close-range beam shotgun to blast opponents. Like Temjin, Apharmd is also armed with Power Bombs.
  • Raiden - A powerful and heavily-armored (allowing him to dish out lots of damage), yet slow Virtuaroid, who has plasma cannons hidden within his shoulders that fire huge laser blasts, a bazooka and can sacrifice his armor for a massive speed boost, as seen in Oratorio Tangram.
  • Viper II/Cypher - One of the fastest Virtuaroids (with poor defense like Fei-Yen), Viper II/Cypher can shoot homing beams from the launcher on its chest, use its 7-way spread missile arm cannon as a laser blade and has the ability to transform into a fighter jet to ram into enemies.
  • Specineff - A cursed, skeletal-like assassination Virtuaroid, who is quick and weak in speed/defense respectively, even wielding claws, a gigantic beam scythe/rifle (used for homing ghostly fireballs and scythe shockwaves), shuriken-shaped wings that he can throw at enemies and possesses a unique ability of disabling weapons. He can also make himself completely invincible for a short period of time when his damage is getting low.
  • Angelan - A blue sorceress-like Virtuaroid, who uses her staff to control the element of ice, able to attack by shooting freezing beams, generating barriers and summoning floating ice pillars or giant dragons. Like her predecessor Fei-Yen, she has low defense and a comeback mechanic, which will grow angelic wings on her back that makes her more powerful and gives the ability to fly for a short period of time. She pretty much acts as a counterpart to Specineff's death-based motif.

Job #147: New Series: Endless

Welcome to the Endless Universe discussion post. I'll be your learned professor today. Hurry up and take your seats.

So those with memories may remember I introduced you all to the wonderous, stupendous, GLORIOUS indiviual known as Horatio, a former billionaire that grew bored, explored some ruins, found a bunch of ancient tech and used it to create a cloning device that allowed him to clone himself into his own species of brilliant beautiful and perfect individuals.

Now, I've been keeping this quiet, but the Endless universe actually has...well...endless options for characters. Horatio is indeed a most perfect pick for the series, but he is far from the only one.

  • Horatio: A billionaire turned interplanet ecological dictator(no really), Horatio desires to fill the universe with the most beautiful thing he can imagine; Horatio. To do this he is quite happy to splice the genes of less symmetrical species and help integrate them into his perfect society of glorious clones.

Horatio has appeared in Endless Space, Endless Space 2 and some of his clones are the main focus of Love Thyself: A Horatio story. On top of this his official backstory states he's originally part of the Endless Legend's Mezari clan before going to explore the ruins of Dungeon of the Endless where he finds the Endless' ancient cloning technology in which to build his empire. Along the way he even canonically gets three of the main heroes from the game killed. The three characters I mentioned in this post.

Oh, and he also appears as a decorative statue in Two Point Hospital, which of course increases your hospital's beauty.

  • Op-Bot DV8: The only character to appear in every Endless game(apart from the Horatio only tale of Love Thyself), Op-Bot DV8 is a medical unit robot who worked for the Vaulters, a human clan that is prevelant across all the series known for their advanced technology. Op-Bot DV8 is the narrator for the Vaulters story in Endless Legend, is a playable character in Dungeon of the Endless where it is revealed he became a prisoner after getting a little too carried away with medical research and cutting up specimens, and a hero for the Vaulters in both Endless Space and Endless Space 2, albeit under a slightly different name to disguise him from his past crimes.

  • Isyander Shumèd: A former member of the Vodyani Clan, a species of devout extremists who wish to upload their conciousness and become essentially data, Isyander is seen as a heretic by his people for no longer worshipping the Virtual Endless, an ancient species thought to have created 'Dust', the currency used in many Endless games which is actually a highly advanced nanobot technology. Isyander discovered the true source of this 'Dust', which was an extinct species that the Endless in turn worshipped known as The Lost.

Basically the Endless harvested the corpses of their former gods to create nano technology in order to win a civil war amongst themselves. Disgusted by the actions his former gods had taken, Isyander formed a rebellion against the gods, and fought his own sister for control of the populace. Isyander, cast out by his people, formed the Academy; a special place where he gathers heroes to aid him in returning the Dust back to it's rightful place; The Lost themselves.

  • Isyara St Shaiad: Isyander's sister and the current heirarch of the Vodyani. She seeks to ascend herself and her people to a higher plane of existence and become a species capable of becoming similar to the virtual Endless. Whilst Horatio may wish to transform everyone into clones of himself, he at least has the option to spare other species and allow them to live alongside him and his clones(although he will likely insult them for being less than Horatio). Isyara and the Vodyani however...simply eradicate anyone who is not a Vodyani. They hunt other species down, feeding on their essence like a soul sucking vampire.

  • Emperor Maximilian Zelevas: Maximilian's word is law within the United Empire. If he says he wants something built, the entire empire will jump to attention and get building. In Endless Space, the United Empire were seen as the main antagonists, although by Endless Space 2 the protagonists they fought against have been reduced to a minor faction and Maximilian is seen in a more positive light. A capable man, Maximilian managed to stage a bloodless coup d'etat against it's former emperor, who had become unstable. Maximilian is well loved by his people, and feared by his enemies.
Actually to be honest there's dozens and dozens of characters, some of which I haven't even got around to experiencing myself yet. If you're interested here are links to the various 'heroes' of the series(heroes is the term used but a lot of them are villains too):

Dungeon of the Endless: Includes characters who are clear shout outs to Samus Aran(Sara Numas), Duke Nukem(Gork) and others. Heavy, Medic, Pyro and Engineer from Team Fortress 2 also guest star in the PC version of this game, although this is far from canon and none are eligible for this job.

Endless Legend: Includes several bizarre species including the draconic men known as the Drakken, the insect like monsters known as Necrophages(Skroig from Dungeon of the Endless is one of these, albeit a more refined one), Horatio's original species of the Mezari, Op-Bot's allies of the Vaulters, the telepathic and psychokinetic Morgawr clan and the volcanic shamens known as the Kapaku.

Endless Space: Includes the factions of Horatio and Maximilian and Op-Bot's Vaulters. Others include the science based geckos with scant regard for health and safety, the Sophons, the warring samurai avians known as the Hissho, the unstoppable warring insectoids that devour everything in their paths known as the Cravers, Amoebas who are a race of exactly what you think they are; a bunch of highly evolved sentient blobs who are surprisingly eloquent and the Sowers, a faction of machines who make planets habitatable for other species as their mission from their gods, the Endless.

Endless Space 2: Includes Horatio and Maximilian again, as well Op-Bot's Vaulter clan and both Isyara and Isyander's factions, the Sophons, Hissho and Cravers, but also the amphibious mafia boss merchant race known as the Lumeris, the polygonal beings from another universe trying to escape their dimensions disaster known as the Riftborn, the space tree creatures known as the Unfallen and the Nakalim who are a race who worshipped the Lost and are the sworn enemies of the Endless.

Recently there's also been the reveal of Endless Dungeon, a sequel of sorts to Dungeon of the Endless, although so far only a trio of heroes have been revealed; the headbanging party goer Zed, the robot known as Bunker and a little fellow in a plague mask known as Shroom. So far only Zed's profile has been filled out and her Youtube reveal shown, but others will be coming in due time.

Lastly; the fascinating thing to me about these games is that although they all seem to be standalone, they all mesh together in their own shared universe. It's pretty spectacular how every game's event leads to another, such as how Dungeon of the Endless has the cast taking space criminals to the planet Auriga, the location of Endless Legend, only for the Auriga to eventually be destroyed with only a few species surviving that destruction and going to live in Endless Space. No doubt Endless Dungeon will also follow this trend.

There's also the Endless Space 2 comics released by Amplitude that delve into some of the factions lives such as Horatio's Dungeon of the Endless exploits, or the day to day lives of assassins in the United Empire, the tragic tale of the Vaulters, a fight for power with the Lumeris or how doomed everyone is when the Cravers turn up, although without a little context for the games themselves they may be a little confusing. You can read them here.

Phew. If you managed to read all that, I salute you. Thank you for coming to my Endless Ted Talk. Endless in both the series and length.

You're free to go now, but your homework is to look at some of these fun heroes. They're a good time, and one I had no idea I'd become so invested in before I stumbled across the games.

Alright, let's start voting!

Here are the potential series we have:

Golden Axe ( Tankman from Newgrounds Tankman from Newgrounds )
Shining ( osby osby )
Etrian Odyssey ( cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Fighting Vipers ( OrpheusTelos OrpheusTelos )
Virtual-ON ( tonygameman tonygameman )
Endless ( YoshiandToad YoshiandToad )
Dinosaur King ( Tekken_Guy Tekken_Guy )

Vote for your top 3 picks - keep your own submission in third place if you're going to self-vote.

1. Shining (I just feel like now's the best time. None of us have any clue what to do with Shining, so specifically dedicating some time to figuring it out would be the best move. I kinda feel like it might be now or never)
2. Virtual-ON
3. Golden Axe

  1. Endless. I feel like there are a lot of interesting picks in this series and it could really use a dedicated character job.
  2. Dinosaur King. To fix the glaring lack of thunder lizards in our roster.
  3. Shining. Shameless self-vote.

1. Shining - We need a Shining rep. To me, this is a big gap in our roster, not least of which because unfortunately we all have SOME kind of gap in our knowledge of the series. This will allow us to get really interesting with it.

2. Endless - Horatio sold me, and so did the rest.

3. Golden Axe - Just a great pool of characters to pick from.

1. Shining (Probably the biggest series that we haven’t settled on a pick for yet. I think taking time to figure out who we should add would be a good idea)
2. Endless (Seems like a really cool series with a lot of rep potential. The write-up definitely has me interested in learning more)
3. Virtual-ON (cool robots)

Honorable mention to Golden Axe. I think there’s a lot of fun options, but it’s also gonna be eligible for the next two prompts so I’m in no hurry to get it in just yet. Would rather give series that have less of a window to get submitted get a chance for now.

1. Shining (This isn't a seires I know a ton about but it's one I feel does deserve a spot. This feels like the perfect chance to work it out.)
2. Fighting Vipers (Another fighting game rep would be cool)
3. Virtual-ON (Big robots good)

Shout out to Golden Axe. Feels like a must have but it has a couple of chances left, I'd kind of like to get a lesser known in there.

1. Fighting Vipers: If there was only one thing I'd change about the current roster it's swapping out one(and only one) of the VF cast for a FV character. If we can have both though that's great.
2. Shining: Long running series, lots of options...one I feel a lot of us will need to do some research on for a good pick. Could be interesting. Probably should be first, but...I just really like Fighting Vipers.
3. Endless: A shameless self vote, but I'm addicted to the series at current.

Shout out to Dinosaur King though. I'd like to revisit it at some point.

We're doing a guest character eventually, but for now, no
Ok. Cause the few suggestions I have at this point are mostly related to legacy characters associated with the Genesis that SEGA doesn’t own.

but for now.

  • Ristar
  • Candy (Fighting Vipers)
  • Amy Rose
  • Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel (like ice climbers with the Chaotix teather)
  • Billy Hatcher
  • Segata Sanshiro (most wanted)

Well, we're currently voting for a series to add a character from and Fighting Vipers is one of those franchises.

If you want, you can place your vote and see if that goes in your favor.

Wait what!?! Why!?!
You see:
  • Billy Hatcher is now an Assist Character, which he can't be a playable.
  • Segata Sanshiro is a Boss, so he can't be Playable. (I don'y know if it's true or am I lying?)
I don't want to sound or be rude toward you but don't worry, rest of your cast is safe, so no need to stress out.
I know you are first time on this thread, but listen, we already planned Billy and Segata as NPCs.

That is… that’s just criminal.
Personally I don't see either role as particularly egregious. Segata would be an amazing fighter, that's true, but we just felt he'd also make for a really fun boss. And to be completely honest, Billy just isn't an essential character. At all. Not in the slightest. I'm down for more obscure grabs, but Billy has very much had his time in the sun by now and the general consensus here is that at this point, it'd just be more worthwhile to look elsewhere

I know you really like the Obscure and unpopular stuff, so why can't we put Vectorman in the Roster as DLC Character if won't make a cut in the Base Roster.
(I know I like to talk about Vectorman, but he was very important character for SEGA's history during the 90's, because his games were popular of the graphics that were similar to DKC, another good game.

Alright fellas, so it seems like everyone's voted, and also we have a huge landslide winner, so I might as well end the vote early. Here are the results:

GA: 5 points
Shining: 29 points
EO: 2 points
FV: 10 points
Virtual-ON: 14 points
Endless: 10 points
DK: 2 points

That is right, fellas, you saw it right there, the next series to be given a character in this game's roster is indeed Shining!!!!

So now we'll do the job that comes after this:

Job #148: Submit a Shining character

Yeah! We've established that a Shining character is being added, now we just gotta figure out who! I don't have much to say here, just submit a character who comes from the Shining games.
