Sakurai preferences are not related to the fact that, Skyward Sword Link while is not exactly Twilight Princess Link, he is extremely similar to this. Yet, they are not the same.

I always found this dirty yellow color and outfit to be unappealing in Skyward Sword, so making it look a little less puffy and adding a few familiar design elements to it doesn't change that at all.

Fierce Deity Link would be much preferred, the white armor just looks great.

I think the point in his statement is that Sakurai could bring neither of those if he wanted to, so people should be grateful nonetheless.

At this point I'm expecting to open the game and have a pile of horse **** in the case. Or, best-case-scenario, get literally Brawl2: Air Tripping Edition.

I fully know about setting expectations low to avoid disappointment.

There are plenty of things to critique regarding Smash4 (such as, oh, I dunno, gameplay). This is not one of them. Whiny, nitpicking fans are usually ignored for a reason.

Nope, they are not.

TP design and SS design are similar, while OoT is not (actually, all the Link designs are similar for an obvious reason, but you can do a classification of designs in groups and OoT and TP link would not be in the same group).
Skyward Sword is the most recent TLoZ game in a homeconsole, they need to add content about it, they have to add content about it. In fact replacing TP designs with SS design was the most logical solution, but Sakurai-Smash 4 developers seem to prefer the TP designs. Skyward Sword starter outfit is another way to representate SS, but a bad one representation. SS Link was suposed to be the main star of SSB4 in TLoZ playable characters, instead of that we have a recolor of TP Link based in SS link as alternative costume.
A decission that i disaprove.

Well, not much we can do about it now so you'll have to get used to it at some point.

I don't think that it would be as simple as them removing the hat from his head, because the hat is likely a part of Links character model, so it is literally a piece of his head, and there is probably no hair or anything textured beneath it, so they would have to place new hair in the place where the hat used to be and also program and animate the extra hair differently than the hair on the rest of his head so that it moves naturally. That's my guess why it is merely a texture-swap instead of using a different model.

Yeah, it's what happens when something Zelda-ish pops up, especially in Smash Bros. Suddenly everyone is at each other heads because of something slightly off about Link. But I do agree on the thought that they could just took his cap off. Would make him a lot closer to his starting look in SS.

Also, considering people to have an opinion that they don't like something that's given to them and calling them ungrateful is not a good counter-argument. That causes the assumption that people don't want a certain aspect of the game being good (or half-done) to best.

This is not a legitimate alternate costume, it's simply one of Link's recolors, it has to be a recolor. If Sakurai worded the post wrong, then I think this is a pretty color choice for Link, but if he seriously thinks that this makes an alternate costume like Male WFT or Wire-Frame Little Mac, then I call bull****. Saying that his is Link's alternate costume is like saying that Samus' Gravity Suit colors are her alternate costume despite having so many suits to choose from like the Light Suit and the Fusion Suit.

Alternate costumes should be unlocked by completing classic mode or targets with that character or just doing something specific with that character. Links need ordon outfit, zora armor, and whatever other alternate he has. I just hope there unlockable

While I do like the Skyloft outfit, I would have preferred it to be more inline with the actual source material:

That means making the sleeves longer, making the shirt collar more circular rather than buttoned, removing the gloves, and obviously taking of his hate. And is it jusst me or is the alt outfit more greener than the original?

This isn't an actual outfit but more so a texture swap which just happens to include the Skyloft outfits designs. It is still Link's original outfit but re-textured to resemble something else. Wire Frame Mac and the various gender swaps for the Trainers and Villagers are complete model swaps which, to me, this is what alternate costumes should be.

I think this spells ill for some other potential costumes that have a lot of potential. I am a bit worried we will see pre-existing models that are just re-textured. I feel it does a bit of a disservice to the source material. Centurion Pit without a helmet. Psuedo-Palutena with just a slight skin tint. Outset Toon Link suffering the same problems as Skyloft Link. Shadow Peach without her evil raised collar.

Still, I am excited to see more potential "costumes". I would just like to see at least most of the outfits be completely different models that are set apart from the original.

The hat thing I don't think is a massive issue. But to be honest, you could easily leave the hitbox there and take the hat off. I feel as if they just don't want to create new models for alternate costumes. Don't get me wrong. I love palette swap costumes. I just would like to see some more effort in the alternate costumes department.

I love that they are mixing it up with the alternate costumes instead of just changing the character's color scheme. Hopefully they exercise this in every character as well giving Mario is Dr. Mario alt, Samus as Dark Samus, Fox with different outfits from Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault, etc. There's a ton of stuff they could do.

EDIT: Plus, I'm an advocate for every character having a unique level to themselves.

I like this. I don't consider it to be on par with Wireframe Mac, Male Trainer or the Villager's gender variations, but it's something different than just changing up the HUE/Saturation of his clothing textures.

I would prefer if he had a model-based costume instead of a texture, but this is fine in any case. The more content the merrier.

I am just hopeful they aren't getting rid of the Dark Link costume because of this. That would be a shame.

I know. I just think literally anyone else but Toon Link would be a better Zelda rep. If it had to be a one-time villain, I think Skull Kid is the most popular. I was pretty damn mad when he was announced as an AT. There were tears, anger and angry letters. But this isn't really the place to discuss this, I guess.
