I'm banking on the "I am excited about that one thing we can't talk about!" quote being the Steve in Smash Ultimate trailer at Minecon. And I won't be disappointed if that isn't the case. My personal opinion regarding the character is the same as Red's.

Also, on the Minecraft note, at first I heard that the MC representation would be a stage and/or assist trophy? Has that leak fallen off the radar?

Hmm... Intersesting... didn't see that post... that means they're probably announcing something pretty big
But seriously, what if it was Smash?

That's always been the strong rumour.
Vergeben has always heard it will have some representation, likely a Stage, but possibly a character as well.

Just like Monogatari itself.
We can't be friends.

"The next Minecraft update will include a damage percentage / knockback toggle for the health bar and a new boss: Master Hand!"
Followed by a "smash direct coming soon lol" announcement

Hahaha talk about not happening

Is it possible for DLC to have been worked on as far back as E3 or even prior? Absolutely. Capcom is notorious for pulling that kind of stunt. And wasn't Mewtwo announced as DLC before Smash 4's release?

I said it on the main ultimate thread but I want to put my thoughts here. For the box theory, whoever designed it grouped by 9. At the time of making the box, there were 69 spots worth of fighters as Isabelle was not known. That final group of 18 (9 on each side) only had 15 leaving 3 blank spots. To make the design aesthetically pleasing if you were able to see both spots, they broke the final group into a set of 8 and 7 so you had 1 open spot on one side and 2 on the other so it was as symmetrical as possible. I don’t believe we only have two more or at least the box theory doesn’t determine that. I understand things have changed this time around but I refuse to believe we get 75% of new characters within two months of the reveal with only 3 the final 2/3rds of the way, or the fact echoes seem to be a big new concept that is tailored for last minute increases in fighter count but we only have 1 in the final 4 months. Maybe I’m wrong but everything then would be frontloaded making the final wait seem pointless as we know everything already. We know there are not hidden fighters this time, all stages are unlocked from the get go. He needs to hold some things back closer to launch to tease us with. I am not saying there will be 10 more characters on the way but 5-6 (including echoes) I feel is more plausible than 2.
There more things for Sakurai to talk about then just fighters you know.........

While I don't think the Box Theory will end up 100% in the end, I do think there's a good chance it'll point us in the right direction. Given how much time is left, 1 to 2 more uniques and maybe 2 or 3 more Echos seems perfectly reasonable to me. The biggest thing I don't buy about Box Theory is the idea that Ken is the only Echo left. They've all be shown in batches so far and have been treated as a pretty minor thing, only really getting about a solid minute of explanation at most. Echos are pretty much just glorified skins, TBH, and saving just Ken feels really weird. If he really was the last one left, I feel they would've just dropped him already due to the fact Echos already receive such little fanfare.

Any word on Genos, though? He seems like the duh pick for new Square/Mario rep.
I assume you mean Geno, as opposed to this guy from One Punch Man.

No news as far as I know; the only reliable source that we have to go on is Vergeben, who's tight-lipped on the matter because it could cost people their jobs, given Square-Enix's attitude towards leaks.

Newbie to SmashBoards here! Honestly, the Ken leak looks pretty legit. Especially when you look at his propotions compared to Ryu. It makes sense that they put him in the game.
Welcome and I agree, it also makes sense for Ken to be in because you can call him an OG echo fighter if you take Street Fighter II into account because he’s kind of like Ryu in the game with a few minor differences.

I don't agree that the blog posts are worse than pics of the day. Functionally that is.

Getting posts about 3+ characters (each having their own videos), items, stages, and a new music track every week? Hell yeah.

BUT.

Since the former three things are stuff we already know about? Pretty lukewarm. The new music is pretty much all we have to look forward to every week, outside of any crazy theories we create.

So, really, the blog posts are better in theoretical practice, but for this situation where most of the stuff that's on the blog is stuff we know about already, it would seem pointless to some.
The blogpost is there for casual gamers. I know many people that are into Smash that didn't even know Isabelle was a thing after the direct or watch directs for that matter. I thought it was known that those posts were clearly intended for the uninformed. The character videos are intended for the more hardcore group to analyze and look at how their character changed etc.
Casual smashers would enjoy the blog because they will just see characters like Simon/K.Rool/Isabelle popping up on the site not to mention new music. Music theory is still valid right?

Oof I just found the dream leak that even matches up with confirmed content thus far (Incineroar, Ken, Isabelle, all previously announced newcomers)

https://boards.fireden.net/v/thread/432904501/#432904501

Damn, this is THE DREAM. No Neku, but I can live with it cause Elma, Bandana Dee and Black Shadow

Sadly it’s most likely a wishlist by someone who did their research

This roster will be officially a dream for me if Klonoa was on that list.

Steve is a logical inclusion and I trust Sakurai's team to make him work if it's indeed the case.

Before Smash Wii U, yes, but after Smash 3DS's release. But since they showed a complete model for Mewtwo I'm pretty sure work on him started before either game's release.

Sub Yuri for Lloyd and add Ayumi and that's a dream leak for me. No Neku, but Elma, Isaac, Black Shadow, and KOS-MOS? Sign me up.

Geez, that's beyond a wishlist. That's like "I wished upon the Dragon Balls" level wishing. Yuri as a Tales rep? KOS-MOS?

I mean, I would be beyond happy if that came to be, but that's..like...I'm disappointed I even read it because I know it'll never happen. But feel free to prove me wrong Sakurai.

This contradicts Verge’s claim of Minecraft content pre-E3, implying said content would have to be in the base game

Soooo into the trash Monogatari guy goes?
This person likely got his information from a different source. Meaning that it's likely different people have different information to isolate leakers.

Thanks y'all. Also, about the other new leaks... *deep breath* I think Steve is a huge possibility. Especially when taking into account how big Nintendo's relationship with Minecraft has been in the past couple of years. Do I like Steve? No, but I'd be wrong if I said that he doesn't stand a chance on brand recognition alone. I'm having a hard time pin pointing how his moveset would be like. But they've made movesets for strange picks before (Wii Fit, G&W, etc.)

As for the others, Incineroar always seemed like the no brainer pick from SunMoon. Bipedal, fighter outright, plays into the villain aspect of this game, his final smash could be their Z move, etc. Dixie Kong was (besides K Rool) my biggest wanted newcomer, so if she makes it in then hell yeah.

Any word on Genos, though? He seems like the duh pick for new Square/Mario rep.

Since I am a Dragon Ball fan now I want to see a fanart fusion of those two character ^_^

It would be more impressive if it was posted a few months ago, as opposed to yesterday. Anyone could take the current roster, add Incineroar and Ken, and throw on a bunch of characters to claim that it's a leak.

Steve is an interesting situation to me. While I always felt he was a sleeper pick that no one talks about, I'm not quite sure I'm fully convinced he or any MC content is in. Then again, a lot of this is me not trying to get my hopes up, as Steve (or any MC content, TBH) would make me really hyped, and I try not to overhype nowadays, ha ha. Keeps me from getting disappointed. :p

Have y'all heard that 'apparently' the person who leaked Ken is saying that there's a Smash Direct on October 16? It wouldn't surprise me since we've gotten directs monthly in the last couple of months.. owo

Link? Also, is there any proof it's the same person? The date is pretty in-line with what Nintendo does, so I could believe it.

The person who leaked Ken didn't have a tripcode so anyone could be pretending to be them. October 16th feels too early to me if they're going to announce a TestSmash.

The person who leaked the Ken picture has not posted again, outside of the full-blown pic. Anyone claiming to be that leaker is in fact not the leaker.

Not really, it would be pretty close to what they did with their other demos. ARMs and Splatoon had super early demo events.

They were both 3 weeks before the launch, which is November 16th, that'd be a month from the direct to the actual event starting. November 1st seems the most likely to me at the moment.

Splatoon had two and the first one was waaaaay early. ARMS was a little closer, but the event doesn't have to take place right after the Direct. If there is a testfire-esque demo in November, October would be the best way to announce it, as all the demo events were announced in advance.

If you want to blame the lack of Zelda playable characters on anything, I think the structure of the Zelda series itself is at fault here. The whole series is about the Triforce and its three holders: Link, Zelda, Ganon. Almost every other character is fleeting, making one-off appearances (Tingle and Impa notwithstanding). Are characters like that "worth" of being in Smash Bros.? Even within the same series, what makes Skull Kid more "deserving" (I also hate this term, but let's roll with it) than Vaati? Ghirahim? Hilda? Zant? Or helpers like Midna, Fi, the BOTW Champions?

Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against Skull Kid. But I do think most people are overestimating his chances just because the Assist Trophy went MIA. In my opinion, Zelda doesn't need more characters. Having a bunch of Links is actually a good representation of the series lore, being that "Link" is never the same character. It's a series that thrives on its main trio, and everything else (hi Sheik) is just a bonus.
One-off argument is terrible considering Fire Emblem does it worse and has more character representation.

Popularity should warrant the character being 'deserved'.

Skull Kid is 'deserved' more than others for the simple reason that Majora's Mask is as iconic as the Triforce itself. Just about any gamer can look at those two symbols and immediately tell you they're from LoZ. Same can't be said about others in the series.

Also having a bunch of Links is horrible representation and it comes off as lazy when there's dozens of interesting and popular characters to choose from the series.

Yeah, the individual mentioned Tamagon from Devil World to be the retro rep ...
TAMAGON? Hell no.

I mean, all FE characters have at most 3 total appearances(not counting amiibo, DLC and remakes as separate games). It's not really the same thing at all when Zelda has a main trio that's constant throughout the entire series, with Zelda and Ganon missing some games here and there.
When you have a constant rotating cast, one-offs are the norm.

Yeah, there's a huge possibility someone's just pretending to be them. It was a 4chan thread, I think? I saw it on one of thise clickbait YT Smash leak videos.

Mario Tennis's tournament thing was announced pretty far before the event but didn't have a date right away, I could see them potentially doing something like that I guess.

edit: To be more specific it was announced on March 8th, but the actual date of the event was announced on May 14th, while the event itself was June 22nd.

The directs so far have been scheduled for the first week of the month. A natural disaster postponed September's a week, but it's not too far a stretch to predict that the next direct would be during the 2nd week of October to keep the spacing the same. Even if someone predicted the date, I wouldn't believe their information. it's too easy to guess at this point.

EDIT: Oh, the 16th isnt even during the 2nd week....and its a Tuesday. Yeah, I doubt it. If they haven't forwarded the date to keep things the same, then it'll be October 5th. If they delayed it a week to keep the spacing the same between directs, then I'd guess we'll have a Direct on the 12th of October. They still have a lot of things to talk about that aren't Smash Brothers related, so it doesnt even have to be a Smash-related direct. There could easily be a Pokemon centered one that talks about the Let's Go games and introduced the 8th Gen (since it was already confirmed for a 2019 release). If they were to do that, we'd probably get our Pokemon rep introduced at the end (assuming there is one).
