The main cast in Xenoblade 2 actually look fairly good in terms of modeling though. Granted most of the NPCs and a lot of the blades look like crap though.

It's definitely the most "appealing" because it went the BoTW route with cel-shading and whatnot. And that's fine.

Still not a fan of the change though.

Well, look at me - I'm really into Zelda, have almost played every game, know most conventions in the series, and more.

Yet despite all that, I don't want to really call myself a Zelda-fan per say...... I kinda feel like everyone is in the West, and at times it has me feel bit conflicted on it at times....

I was just saying those are typical requests and the Smash Nintendo purists are not the typical group, so I was wondering how our 3rd party ideas differed. One theme immediately present in the few responses were 3rd parties with some sort of Nintendo exclusivity in their premier title.

I know, I was just sharing my views on those 3 in particular.

Though of those characters that fall into "Nintendo exclusivity" I can only really think of Simon, Bomberman(who's an AT), and Ryu Hayabusa. Every other popular choice is either debuted somewhere else, or is a weird fringe character outside of places like here. I guess Geno counts.

There's a bunch of Rare characters too, but Microsoft owns them so I doubt they'll get in.

Well Phil Spencer went on record saying he would like Banjo & Kazooie in Smash, and he's the final say on all Xbox operations.

Granted, the fact that he said it after the surprise Smash reveal tells me he's either being very coy or B&K weren't included, because that would've been decided well before then.

Yeah - I guess it's because I keep feeling like I'll lose what made these things special to me incase I see everyone state the same reason, and also might be afraid to lose something valuable along others if following the crowd.

Biggest time I felt that was when I saw OOT get 10/10s almost everywhere when it had it's 3DS-remake, and felt strangely lost on playing the game on my own merits and enjoyment (first videogame I cleared without anyone's help) - and wondered was everyone just attempting to keep the series a holy grail of videogames or something, even in expense of making an even better game than it after dissecting it's core flaws (which was how Banjo-Kazooie managed to rise above SM64, in my humble opinion)

Always Wanted to beat a Zelda game. I have played several, But never beaten one, they feel so hard xD I really want too. But i can't find the motivation to get up and play one.
Got Stuck on OoT and couldn't find a guide for my situation.

If you don't mind saying, where did you get stuck at on OoT/BotW? I've beaten them both and might be able to help out.

Popular choices don't fall into exclusivity category, but some do get suggested. There have been a couple threads on Reddit supporting an Octopath Traveler, Neku pops up in discussion from time to time, as does Phoenix Wright.

Rare characters of course are considered something like step-siblings to Nintendo since before Microsoft bought them a lot of people just assumed they were part of Nintendo.

I wouldn't read too much into it regardless, especially with how many people have been saying similar things. Someone saying they'd be OK with one of their characters getting in Smash doesn't really mean much if Sakurai himself isn't interested.

Sure, Microsoft would be cool with it, it's a free advertisement. Even for an IP they haven't used in a while. But would Nintendo be cool with having a character directly owned by a rival in their exclusive game?

It'd be great if it happened, but I still doubt it. That said, Microsoft and Nintendo do play nice, compared to Sony, so Banjo/Rash/Fulgore/whoever would have more of a chance than Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper I guess.

Funnily, I feel the same about Elma. Not because she looks stupid like Rex & Pyra do but because thanks to Monolith Soft cruddy modeling she looks devoid of personality and outside of her skin color comes off as generally uninspired which in my view is just as bad as a stupid design. The modeling in Xenoblade X in general is bad enough that I'd go so far as to say it single-handedly makes Elma and the rest of the X cast far less popular in general than they could potentially have been.

I have no problem with the models, they look fine enough (except for some of those with super anime eyes like lin has) I think the bigger issue is that they're literally not animated the majority of the time so they look dead and have no emotion which just looks strange, but I don't really get the issue people have with the models themselves

I understand that. The post I was replying to said he doubted any Rare property would get into Smash because Microsoft owned them. But Microsoft has taken a more open approach to their games publishing, with cross-play, the Play Anywhere program, Minecraft being on literally everything possible, and Spencer's on-the-record comments.

Plus, considering B&K haven't starred in a new game since Nuts & Bolts in 2008, I'm sure Microsoft would take the free advertisement if it were offered. Point is, Microsoft holding B&K back wouldn't be the issue, I don't think.

There's also the fact that, and this is coming from someone who hates the models in 1 & X, Elma would get a brand new beautiful model in Ultimate just like Shulk did. So Elma being in Ultimate would actually fix any previous design issues. It's one of two reasons I would like to see her in the game.

Especially since all "third-party" means is that Nintendo doesn't own the IP.

So whether it's a video game character like Mega Man, a film character like Godzilla, a comic book character like Batman, or a cartoon character like SpongeBob, if Nintendo doesn't own them, they are legally defined as a "third-party intellectual property" in the context of using them for one of their products like Smash Bros.

1) Shantae, since she was born on a type of Game Boy model like Kirby and Wario, and has mostly stayed faithful to the company.
2) Rayman, as Rayman 2 was a big deal for the N64 back in the day, and the first game originally would have been on the humble SNES.

Even as a huge DBZ fan, I wouldn't really want Goku in Smash. There's a lot of choices before I'd go outside of video games. I'd rather they make a proper follow up to Jump Ultimate Stars on the DS.

Goku's really popular overall, AND he's got memes going for him. Which is why you don't see people talking about say, Spider-Man or Batman, who are also popular and iconic. So with actual popularity, and with memes and ****, Goku gets talked about a lot.

Most people like both versions of Goku, but the DBZ version has been used more in other media. Kid Goku would still hype people up. Though I'd much rather have Kid Goku(and Great Saiyaman) in Dragon Ball FighterZ than in Smash sooooooo...yeah.

Honestly, my dislike of Steve is probably just my general dislike of adding too many Third-Parties combined with early-onset "old-man syndrome."

He's on the same level as Angry Birds, FNAF, and Fortnite for me. Perfectly fine games in their own right, and I've played most of them. Massively popular? Sure. But for me they'll always be associated with millions of little kids with "ADHD" obsessing over them on Twitch and Youtube, and not with the best of gaming history.

Yeah, I'm in a similar boat. I like Minecraft, and play it. I've also played Angry Birds. (I personally feel that FNAF is not good and is a cash grab, but I know that'll be unpopular here so I won't go into it) But those characters are not "Iconic" in the same kind of way that Mario, Zelda, Samus, etc are.

COUNTER: However, as an old man I have to realize that things are changing. Marth and Roy were also not icons in that same way. (Nor was Game and Watch, Ness, Captain Falcon, etc.)

So yeah I think it's probably mostly because we played these games in our 20's (or 30s, not sure how old you are). But I bet if I played Minecraft when I was 12, I would consider Steve to be a really important part of my childhood, and gaming in general.

The gameplay is...ok. at best. And honestly I wouldn't really call it a cash grab. you can tell the creator has fun making these games and stuff. and the games are really cheap. Guess they just make a lot of merch. but then again. big IPs tend to do that.
