Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

The list has Super Mario All Stars and Kirby's Dream Land 3, it's already much better than the SNES Classic Mini lineup.

Super Mario All Stars is important because it has the versus mode of Mario Bros 3, and it's a very simple but super fun multiplayer competitive mode.
The GBA ports had a similar mode but they used inferior physics and were less fun (they were more faithful to the original Mario Bros arcade).
Really wish they'd not use Super Mario World or Super Mario All-Stars but instead give us the vastly superior, Western only Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World instead..its version of Super Mario World had a unique sprite set for Luigi...which I'm sure a lot of people recognize from early 00s flash animations..

Smashboards, with spam bots as stage hazards

I'd love Joker to come with the casino stage. An Unleashed stage for Sonic would be cool, too, but that has no chance.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I dont think that casino stage is as good as peeps say.
Unpopular opinion but I think Persona 5 doesn't have many good stage options. Mementos might be cool but it really depends on how they implement it. Casino isn't the best, but it fits well to acid jazz tracks, which P5 is famous for.

I'll take a stage with a casino as inspiration/background. Casino Palace from F-Zero GX remains one of my pipedream stage wants.

i mean, didnt sakurai already said the games acid jazz wasnt good for battle so
what else is a more iconic stage to use besides mementos?
The main tokyo street comes to mind. There is also the Cafe. and the Velvet room. The cafe could have Sojiro casualy working in the background with Futaba watching and the Velvet room, of course Igor and the Velvet twins and maybe have cameos of the other velvet room attendants

oh yay, people came back lol.

ahem...

unpopular opinion:
it isn't hard to get certain anime/american (maybe not american) characters into Smash.

example:

Sakurai/Nintendo ask Y(anime) for rights to X (character)

Y asks Z(original creator) for approval

if Z says yes, X can most likely get in.(Y can still refuse)

if Z says no, then no.

Granted this is a dumbed down version(actually it woukd be slightly harder, depending on the amount of companies involved) but it reflexs my opinion well.

Bowser’s Castle.

How has this NOT been a stage yet?
(And no, I’m not referring to that one section in Paper Mario either)
Bowser didn’t want people to fight in his home, so that’s why his castle isn’t a stage in Smash

They had the chance to make Metal Crystal from Smash 64 a real stage for the first time. And they didn't.
There's Bowser's Castle, obviously.
However, the most glaring omission in my eyes though in terms of stages is Tetris.

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that a Bowser's Castle is an obvious omission at this point.

We need our Koopa Daddy's Hot Penthouse with Thicc Red Goopits already!

It astounds me how Tetris got the cold shoulder for this long in Smash. The most it got where two songs back in Brawl, one of which it has lost in Smash Ultimate I believe.

You would think Tetris would have gotten an Assist Trophy or Stage by now, especially with Sakurai constantly saying that he wants to celebrate gaming as a whole, then again, the puzzle genre in general hasn't received much love throughout the Smash series...

I imagine it's because of negotiation issues. Nintendo doesn't fully own Tetris, right?

I guess so, although Nintendo has worked with the licence before, including having done a few crossovers in the past.
I guess if we can't have a Tetris Stage/Assist Trophy, then perhaps give Dr. Mario his own stage, would at least be a good alternative.

If the puzzle genre gets some better representation, I'd love to see Lip. But she's highly unlikely, sadly. So... maybe Arle? Maybe a Tetris block with limbs? I don't heckin' know.

Somewhere out there on this big blue marble
I made a coherent Dante moveset
Normals and Smash attacks
Jab: Rebellion combo 1
Ftilt: The second hit of Rebellion combo 2, press again to do the third hit
Up Tilt: Dante grabs Ebony and Ivory and pistol-whips upwards
Dtilt: Dante performs a quick leg sweep
Dash Attack: Stinger, Dante lunges forward with Rebellion. The move has a sweetspot at the end of the lunge
Up Smash: High Time, Dante swings Rebellion upwards. One can compare this to Cloud's up smash
F Smash: Prop Shredder, Dante spins Rebellion around in his hand creating a rather large hitbox which hits multiple times
Down Smash: Crazy Dance, Dante puts Rebellion on the ground and wildly swings around it
Aerials
Nair: Dante spins with Rebellion in 360 degrees
Up Air: Dante swings Rebellion upwards in rapid succession for a total of 3 hits
Fair: Aerial Wave: Dante does the first strike and like Bayonetta's Fair, Dante can follow up to complete the combo
Bair: Dante swings Rebellion behind him horizontally
Dair: Helm Breaker, Dante swings downward and falls straight down. It can spike, just like in his games
Grab and throws
Grab: Dante has a standard grab
Pummel: Dante pistol-whips his opponent
Up throw: Dante kicks the opponent straight up and he juggles them with Ebony and Ivory for a little
F Throw: Dante leaps onto his opponent and slides on them for a little bit before jumping off again
Back Throw: Dante takes a page from his nephew Nero and suplexes his opponent
Down Throw: Wild Stomp, Dante trips his opponent and stamps on them while shooting them with Ebony and Ivory before kicking them away
Specials
B: Devil Trigger. Dante unleashes his energy and becomes stronger and faster alongside the ability to cancel his attacks into other attacks for a short period of time. There are 5 symbols under his character portrait to represent how long this goes on for. By taking or giving damage, Dante fills up the symbols overtime. However, Dante needs 3 symbols available to even activate the move
Side B: Shooting Star, Dante dashes forward a little to get some horizontal distance. However, if something that can be attacked is in front of Dante, he can press B again to teleport above them. The range gets shorted slightly when teleporting but won't put him in freefall. Up B will be disabled but Dante can still attack so this can be used as a risky combo extender
Up B: Air Hike, Dante gets an extra jump by creating a platform which while it only gives him a somewhat better jump, won't put him in freefall so this can be used as a combo extender too. Using Up B won't use up your double jump if you preserved it
Down B: Sword Thrust, Dante throws Rebellion forwards and if it hits anyone, the sword will stay inside the opponent while they 'bleed' by taking damage over time. Pressing Down B again has Rebellion yank itself out and fly back to Dante. When Dante loses Rebellion,
he takes a noticeable hit to his range and damage output but he can still use his fists instead of Rebellion for most of his attacks. His Fsmash becomes a simple punch similar to his gauntlet weaponry and his down smash has him breakdance instead of swinging around Rebellion.
Final Smash: Dante goes crazy and charges straight ahead, anyone hit by the charge gets stuck in a cinematic where Dante rushes at them with Quicksilver's blinding speed doing various slashes and kicks while spewing various one-liners, he even uses his other weapons throughout the series such as Cerberus, Nevan, Lucifer and Gilgamesh before time goes back to normal while Dante performs his Jackpot finisher used from MvC as he doesn't have Vergil backing him up. While this all happens, a Rank meter pops up which keeps going higher and gets SSStylish when Jackpot hits
Miscellaneous
Entrance: Dante rides in on a motorcycle which explodes after he steps off of it
Parry animation: Dante posses as if he parried something with Royal Guard
Taunt 1: Dante shrugs while saying "You scared?"
Taunt 2: Dante yells "Come and get me!" while gesturing that whoever he's fighting needs to get at him
Taunt 3: Dante points forward saying "Make the win!" before laughingly going "Ha! Like you can!"
Victory theme: A snippet of Devils Never Cry. Listen to the first 5 seconds of the MVC3 version before the lyrics pop up to get an idea what I mean
Victory 1: gunfire is heard while cracks in the screen somehow appear before Dante shatters it and poses triumphantly
Victory 2: Dante cheers before striking a pose and saying "That was some party alright!"
Victory 3: Dante casually sticks his arm out and grabs a pizza box and munches on a slice
I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this

What we really need in Smash is to have Vincent from Catherine to be playable in Smash...obviously

Arle would be nice, I heard she was a pretty popular request in Japan, Lip too, I'm happy she got a Mii fighter outfit at least.
Another stage I'm a bit surprised never became a thing now that I'm thinking about it is Pushmo Park from the Pushmo series, with Platforms being pulled out and pushed in, would have made for an interesting stage at least.

I can't believe Dante copied his on-screen animation from Wario.

Jokes aside, this is a pretty good moveset concept, I can imagine him fighting like this for real in Smash.

I know this would probably make this the most complex stage (ironic considering it’s source) but an idea I had for a Tetris stage involves attacking falling Tetromino on different sides to manipulate them.

Attacking the sides=Move it left and right
Attacking from below=Rotating the shape
Attacking from above=Instant drop, anyone before it that would get it would take a strong hit.

I've actually been thinking of a moveset for my most wanted for the past few days and came up with a good up-special concept.
The fighter turns their head into a large hand with an eye in its palm, and they clench their new fist, before teleporting in the held direction, up by default. It has better distance than any other teleport move, however the fighter is left wide open while clenching their fist, some bad startup lag. After the move, their head returns to normal with no lag because of that.
