If it's a classic RE character (Jill from RE1 or Leon from RE2) it's absolutely an interesting way to show off RE. Resident Evil was the first game to use a scarcity of ammo to elicit fear of the unknown. Every shot counted, and unless you were efficient, there wasn't a guarantee you'd actually have enough ammo to finish the game. This game mechanic, along with the cinematic angles, more or less spawned the survival horror genre. (Alone in the Dark did it first, but not to the degree RE did.)
If we're talking modern RE games, yeah, no. Scarcity of ammo hasn't been a thing since RE3.
