Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Some people hate change for some reason. Like, I'm looking for free-for-alls, but if I have to do a one-on-one match, at least make it in Battlefield with three stocks. Or anything with three stocks, why two stocks is even a thing?
People still pretend it is Smash 4. That's why people are also keen on Omegas more than Battlefield, viable stages or good Hazardless stages. Even in Arenas they dominate.

Hopefully it will eventually go down when people realize this game is too aggressive for two stocks.

Why even 3 stock with 3:00 min? What are we gonna do? Fart around until Sudden Death?

5-7 please, also if you have :ultdarksamus::ultsamus: could folks just not pick 'hazards off' cuz it gets real ****ty having to chase you down in paper Mario.
Don’t look at me.

I don’t even pay for the Online Service.

Hopefully by the time I get Smash Ultimate they fix the online issues. 'Cause at this point, it honestly sounds like a bubbling hot mess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Heck yeah it is, I played :ultkingdedede: this weekend and found out he can move...

Like he can actually move around like a real character, I was blown away, also :ultridley: is nasty.

It's not that bad. First week it was unreliable. Nowadays it does the job more often than not.

If that's the cost for playing on other stages besides flat ones I'll take it.

Apparently Vergeben said some new things (according to Smashwikis list of rumors). The Square-Rep is possibly a Dragon Quest-Character (possibily Erdrick or Luminary) and was originally planned to be revealed at the Game Awards.

Any thoughts about it?
This is probably my most preferred outcome, should it happen. A new series rep, let alone from the godfather of console RPG/JRPGs.

That said, I ironically struggle to think of how a moveset would work for a character from a game series that mainly uses a 1st person perspectives. I should really get around to playing Dragon Quest Builders.

There are two types of players who pick FD online, those who are too used to For Glory and those who are using a character who relies on projectiles.
**** the latter group.

It's...not too bad, there's just things about it that frustrate me. TBH a lot of what I posted earlier was just venting, I truly believe it isn't as bad as older attempts at online from Nintendo.

I wouldn't call it good, though. It's bad, but...usable? That's the best way I can describe it. Just use Arenas when you play, it makes it a lot more tolerable.

What if i main Samus, but I never spam projectiles and dislike Final Destination mode?

Is Vergeben still considered reliable these days?

Heh, you’re saying that like Elite Smash is considered Grandmaster/Challenger rank in most games with competitive modes.
It really is if you want to keep it, considering even the highest gaps are nothing but 300k beyond the entry point.

Basically.

Obviously I don't mind the odd game on flat stages due to MU and/or character advantages but generally speaking any other option is more balanced than Omegas.

I don't blame people not going hazards off in Quickplay since that is way too unreliable but in customized-Random Arenas? No reason not to. I turn off all the unviable stages except Kongo Falls sometimes due to personal bias. It's fair game then.

Considering how easy it is, it should be Gold at most and that’s just me being generous.

Honestly my online experience hasn't been too bad. I can count the number of Items On matches I've had on one hand. The only real problem is sometimes I'm matched up on a terrible stage (Mario Bros and Auto-scrollers), but those are still pretty uncommon (And usually I can tell it's Hazards Off, so there was at least good intentions).

Like with all insiders, it's always good to leave room for doubt.

He's gotten a ton right, but he was extremely insistent on SE character being the first reveal. Not saying him being wrong here invalidates him or makes the SE thing fake, but I'm curious if the reveal timing was something his sources told him, or was it a guess on his part?

After Joker’s reveal I would take anything that Verge says now with a fine grain of salt.
Yeah, he was just lucky by getting mostly everything 100% correct.

It was all a coincidence and anyone who disagrees is dumb, wrong, and also dumb. :072:

I never said that. You’re putting words in my mouth. I never said he wasn’t credible at all. He did, however, take a hit after Joker’s reveal which imo, gave him a pretty big L.

I don't believe that Joker was a cram project. I'd wager that his trailer, with all its unique frames, would've taken three weeks at the least to animate, maybe two if you really push past ethical work schedules - but you'd need a long comfortable time to have it ready by the time its non-negotiable deadline came, while contacting both the Japanese and the English VAs to do a short script. Sakurai's column on the subject also suggests that the request was neither inconvenient nor unexpected, and we already knew none of the Fighter Pass DLCs had had any work on them done yet, so it's not surprising that any of them would've had gameplay footage ready.

This feels like suggesting King K. Rool was thrown into the August Direct just to throw the leakers off, when there was just way too much ready in his reveal for that to have been rushed in. To Vergeben's credit, he never tried to justify how that one slipped out from under him, so I don't know why he's pushing this idea now that Joker is the first DLC because of his tie-ins to the 2017 Game Awards (which isn't something I'd say really defines Persona 5.)

He sounds more commited to this Square Enix idea, even putting his bets down on the franchise being Dragon Quest. Guess we'll see how that turns out.
