Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Everyone is debating in favour or against the idea of more Capcom reps.

Meanwhile, i am feeling dissapointed about the fact that we will get Costume-only DLC but not any that are stage-only.

We're still getting 5 stages with the Fighter Pass

At least it's something

Playing as, he's like bottom 5 when it comes to playing as comfortably. One day I'll enjoy playing as a DK character...
Ahh I understand. He’s different I would suggest utilizing his super armor gimmick. Don’t worry about neutral special. Instead use the crown as the spacing option as it is faster and has a boomerang affect. Take use of his buries to as it always leads to an up tilt which kills at a high percent. Who are more of your character types? Also he has to have one of the best down smashes on the game. Powerful, super armor and can be spammed against lower end players

Oh I know how to play him and his strengths, he just isn't fun to play as at all to me and I usually love playing heavies

I see. I just like to play him for fun. He is menacing with all the tools he has though. Who is your favorite heavy? Mine is probably Ridley even though he sucks. It’s always so damn hard to land at times like the only option you have is timing nair. I mean I know that character isn’t exactly tournament viable but I love Metroid and will keep him and the Samus’s as pockets for my Mewtwo. I am still hoping for Sylux DLC announced with Metroid Prime 4 trailer reveal.

Ridley, Bowser and Ike are my favourite heavies.

Actually I feel Ridley is better than people let on, his disadvantage state is ****ing awful, yes, but his advantage state is ****ing great. Don't know about his neutral though but if you win neutral you should be good

Yeah I know he is better than people think. At best he is B tier. I realize people don’t realize how useful it is! Cause much like Mewtwo, Ridley shines at edge guarding. Most of the cast can be gimped with two Nairs. Yes I agree he has disadvantage states with land not options but he also has great tilts, powerful smash attacks, and great air game if you are the one controlling the air. I wish his neutral special was better, I mean it’s not bad spacing I just wish the option of firing just one fireball wouldn’t have so much start up and end lag frames. I mean if he fires all of them which do around 40 damage, but for an option I myself use to bait a jump or shield option sucks at times. I do wholeheartedly agree of him being better than people think. Also what’s more satisfying than landing Ridleys up b downward motion spike?

I still think we MIGHT get a 6th bonus DLC stage in some way to fill out the selection grid.
miiverse but all the posts in the background are drawn by sakurai + team and depict the characters who only got in as mii costumes or assist trophies crying into their faces

Your post is very pessimistic. Even if it is a joke. I didn’t think it was finished.

I think that the 6th stage might be the Minecraft content Verge is certain of.

And yes, I still think that Minecraft would be adequately represented by a stage. Fight me.

I hope so. I don't want Sakurai to go "Damn, I have to represent Minecraft, but I can't think up a stage. Oh, well, we need to reserve one of the fighters for it, then."

I still find it funny you all refuse to have Steve playable, only because Minecraft is over saturated, despite the fact that you were probably introduced to Smash by franchises like Pokemon, that was basically the Minecraft of it's day...

Y'all make no sense

The source that confirmed the Mii Costume-only DLC didn’t say anything about Stage only-stuff.

I really can't feel comfortable with either Shulk or Richter even though I know how to play them and like to do so. It always feels like I'm not in full control.
On the other hand, Ganondorf, Ridley and Incineroar are basically becoming my best characters. I'm glad Ridley clicks with me so perfectly(though I kinda wish he didn't have a stall-and-fall DAir) but I really did not expect to like Incineroar so much. Still have to get my timing of Revenge right as I'm too used with other counters that take considerably more time to come out.

Other than them, I tried Ike a little and I like how he is now. Helps I prefer his PoR design.
Wolf is fun but too slow for little reward imo.
Pichu is stupidly fun but good god, I'm too used with my characters having, you know, actual reach so I keep throwing out attacks that just whiff.
Pkmn Trainer is fun because I can just play Ivysaur for the entire match and then switch to Charizard for a surprise Flare Blitz and people just keep falling for it.
Still too many characters I want to play.

As I learned from fighting K.Rool just recently, Crowmerang and then Blunderbuss is a good combination as it covers a lot of horizontal space, which forces aerial approaches.

Ridley's Fireballs are ****ing stupid as an edgeguarding tool as they cover all ledge get up options when fired at the right time. The only characters I believe can consistently deal with it are those with lasting reflectors such as Fox, Wolf or the Pits.

I know you’re talking to the general you, but considering I was introduced to smash via solid snake, your statement is so wrong about me in particular that I am laughing on the floor.

I just think a playable Steve would be kind of boring. The kind of work you need to put into a fighter like that won’t happen with the DLC fighter, The kind of work needed to incorporate a crafting system into a single fighter is usually reserved for the main game. Same thing with Monster Hunter.

If Steve gets in, i will only care about the stage.

The idea of a Minecraft stage could be dope if done right (Imagine Mario Maker but with more possibilities), and i would be dissapointed if the stage isn’t as exciting or ends up feeling to me like Dracula’s Castle in the end.

I was gonna say Neutral B gimps so hard with Ridley just not a good option when people are on stage. Yeah Blunderbuss is not bad at all. Actually really good on the ledge like ridleys fireballs. I’m just saying the canonball itself is bad depending on the stage and situation itselfs of course now that I think about it. I’d just rather use side B to make them choose different options. Then again I’m not a huge Rool player.

Cloud is literally just a guy with a big sword, yet I don't remember anyone back in the day dismissing Cloud because he was too basic...

Extremely subjective, but even then, you might change your idea with his moveset.

The kind of work you need to put into a fighter like that won’t happen with the DLC fighter,
This doesn't make sense, just look how many unique mechanics Bayonetta have.

The kind of work needed to incorporate a crafting system into a single fighter is usually reserved for the main game. Same thing with Monster Hunter.
How do you know they'll have a crafting mechanic?

It's kind of like the Belmont's Axe, it depends on the situation but it can definitely be used on neutral.
Charging it fully is surprisingly fast and it forces people to jump over it or shield and as I learned the hard way, Ridley can follow a shielded fupl charge Neutral B with a Dash Attack or a grab. As long as they're not already approaching, Fireballs are a great option.

Yeah that’s actually one of the things I love about cause of the opponent keeps themselves away and doesn’t try to pressure you to hard neutral b is amazing. But it isn’t gonna be a viable option against higher end players. Doesn’t it also stun shield long enough to get a grab or different options?

Why are people taking Minecraft? Papa Sakurai ain’t got no time for blockworld.
You do know Sakurai likes Minecraft, right?

Steve's also got minecarts, Ender Pearls he can throw to teleport himself around the stage, and even some potions he can use to help himself, or hinder his opponents...
If you ask me, Steve has potential, aplenty

Oh I had no idea lol! Maybe I should do research XP. I just don’t want Minecraft for a DLC option as there are much better choices especially with so much possibilities opened with Joker.

Steve from Minecraft is the biggest gaming character not yet in Smash Bros. People would hate him being included in the game, period. But he's the biggest.

He has to come with a stage that is as good or better than Mario Maker at least.

There are much better choices than Banjo-Kazooie but I don't act like they are the worst thing ever and keep saying their supporters they should stay out of Smash.

Steve in Smash isn’ bad.

The bad thing would be to make a dissapointing Minecraft stage.

It would actually be sick as hell if you could build like a fighting arena on Minecraft send it to smash bros and it creates it.
I am fine with something in the style of Mario Maker, tbh.

everyone ignoring Dragon Quest Builders which is Minecraft just 100% better
I don’t.

I want to get that game.

There’s also LEGO Worlds.
