If Sylux gets in and I don't see anyone ******** about Metroid overreparesentation, I'm gonna personally go to the houses of each person in this who complained about FE overrepresentation.

Big ****ing difference. Not to mention people were already whining when Robin and Lucina were announced.
Also, fyi, Roy was a vet, not a newcomer. Melee fans were asking for him even before DLC, you guys brought this onto yourselves.

That's kind of been my thought process.

I love Metroid. But I don't think I'm as big of a Metroid fan as I am for some other franchises. I'm extremely happy with Metroid's new Smash representation-- specifically Prime's-- and I'm not against it getting more. But after seeing how many people started outright hating Fire Emblem after getting two newcomers and a DLC fighter in Smash 4, I wondered if the community would gang up on Metroid for "stealing spots" in the same way, or if Metroid is too beloved for that to happen.

Metroid would be too beloved to be called out, people might get mad at Sylux being a "shill" rep but others would argue that he existed before being shilled, so it cancels out.

Metroid is a Western-geared (for the more popular Prime entries now Western developed) series that has existed worldwide since 1986 while Fire Emblem is a Japanese-geared and Japanese developed series that while it has existed since 1990, has only been in the West since 2001 (and only started to gain traction in 2013 with Awakening's western releases). So the community would definitely be expected to welcome Metroid's (debatably) disproportional representation more than Fire Emblem's.

My problems with Sylux are that I haven't played the Prime games (Prime Trilogy on Switch could really help with that Ninty) and that when I read wikis about him, it's stated that "very little is known about him". Yeah, he's existed for about a decade now, but he has the bare minimum of writing/character for someone so important. Even if it's bad writing, I can still call it a character. People are hyped for him in Prime 4 but I won't believe it until I see it. It's not about series representation and whatnot, it's about a genuinely good addition of a character and right now Sylux looks like a whole lot of nothing.

Before The Reignited Trilogy was announced, some people were sent special purple eggs from Activision.

Now people are getting sent orange fuzzy dice from Activision with a message saying "Sliding in to The Game Awards"

I wonder what the Japanese fanbase would think if Metroid gets another rep this game. I want to witness the salt that would occur in the fanbase!

However, I do think Sylux will not be a DLC character. Sylux has as much evidence pointing towards him as Porky, and there is no way Porky is getting in. My bet is that those two will be used as promotional spirits or Mii costumes.
