I believe that was implied to be a first party character though, at least due to the placement. As third parties have always been placed last.

It would suck, but I think it's much more likely than expected. I could easily see the SE rep being another FF character or Dragon Quest, and Steve is simply more likely than Banjo.

They don't have to cut anyone this time, because DLC is a thing (there was no guarantee they'd do DLC for Smash 4).

I can totally see Sakurai saying "We didn't cut anyone in this game because the one character who had to be "cut" was instead held back for DLC..."

If we're getting a Square character that's not Sora or Geno, I'd at least like to see a Dragon Quest character alongside a Monster Hunter character for DLC.

I think a DQ character is unlikely to happen personally due to me sticking to my mindset of third-party guests being from worldwide popular franchises, but if it happened, I wouldn't mind personally since it's a majorly influential Japanese gaming franchise (at least in Japan), but it would definitely feel a bit weird.

I would be immensely happy for people if we got him. Even if I don't personally care much about him, a lot of others do, so I hope for their sake he makes it in! Plus, I see no reason to deconfirm anyone yet. It's good to take anything leakers say with a grain of salt, regardless of credibility.

At the moment we don't know that that gap is actually caused by a cut character. It's certainly a reasonable conclusion, one I'd even say is likely, but there have been gaps for other reasons before. That's why we're even up to 92 in the first place. In any case, that gap can't be a third party character.
