Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I can't believe Waluigi got killed by a 2-pixel sheriff from probably some Atari 2600 game.

This is why he can't be playable.

Wow, Greninja just three-stocked Marth. Also his victory animation looks cool.

The player base realized that his unique parrying abilities and edgeguarding tools were much more useful than previously realized. My boi is the poster child for underrated characters.
Half of his moves are also pretty much useless. The learning curve to play melee Yoshi is so steep that no one wants to bother, because even if you do dedicate all your time to this character and become amazing, there are much better characters. Why do you think there are no other Yoshi's in high level play?
Everything Yoshi can do, fox can pretty much do better.

Last character completed, perhaps, but added? I honestly doubt it.

Mainly because of the sheer amount of differences between him and his base counterpart. Tons of his animations had to be straight up redone due to his and Roy's grip differences, he has an up special based off a completely different character, and he's one of only two echoes, alongside Ken, with a unique Final Smash (three if you count Dark Pit by virtue of Zelda and Sheik losing the Light Arrow).

Honestly, last added vs last completed is a pretty big difference. In Brawl, for example, Sonic was the last to be added, but Wolf was the last to be completed.
I just look at Robin's Final Smash and see a contradiction is all. How can you have Chrom be in Robin's Final Smash but also be playable? It's one of those details that Sakurai doesn't miss, but it's pretty glaring here, and it leaves you scratching your head.

High level play sounds really boring.

For melee? Probably the most fun to spectate but the least fun to learn to play. even though you're seeing the same 5 or 6 characters over and over, people play so differently that it adds a lot of personality to the game. For example, I specifically like to watch games where Westballz is playing, due to his seemingly perfect inputs as falco

Yup! That's why i'm not a high level player, because it's boring, not because I suck h-haha...
I'm not a good player, but even if I was, it sucks that high level play encourages you to play who is good, not who do you like to play.

I don't want my statements to come off as rude, so please forgive me if any of what I say sounds snarky.
But I mean what is the alternative? Tournament level play is indeed a sport, and doing the option you like the most will often not get you the win.

Only once you reach the upper eschelon of the higher levels. And even then, there's always a decent amount of character variety.
Until that point though, the only thing preventing you from succeeding is yourself.

Yeah, like people cite aMSa and Axe for playing characters that aren't often used, but they're the exception, not the rule.

Before aMSa there was V3ctorman
Even then there's still players like nebbii (Avalancher, 2nd best Dutch player), Peanutphobia and Plata
Just because aMSa is the cream of the crop when it comes to Yoshi mains doesn't detract from any of these players.

And the only move I would consider pretty much useless on Melee Yoshi is Side B, which is nothing we Yoshi mains are not used to. What's holding him back is lack of recovery and out-of-shield options. He has very good combo game, air game and ground game otherwise, and his Egg Throw is a great combo extender.

Did he just took two stocks with The Knee and Blue Falcon?

That kid knows how to put up a show.
