Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Kirby being the hero again annoys me more than it should. It’s like, I get it, Kirby’s really popular and mechanically he’s a good introduction, but why can’t, say, Wario be the main hero?
He can be, if you want him too. Once you start unlocking fighters World of Light can be a story with whatever characters you want as the heroes.

Couple of issues with this; PP has feet. And a type of limb.

Sandbag is not playable in any official Smash game. It's a fan-game. That type of philosophy doesn't work for the official games. Imagining them fighting can be an issue even for Sakurai. It doesn't mean it's impossible, but it can hurt a character's chances and should be kept in mind.
That was partially the reason Villager wasn't in Brawl.

People still use "can't fight" as an actual argument against characters? In a genre where a literal sandbag has been a playable fighter? But seriously just about anything capable of moving should have some ability to fight as well. PP being an enemy known for biting and shooting poison, fireballs, etc in the various forms.
The ability to move is something that would be more an issue for PP than the ability to fight, and that's seemingly not an issue either.
Honestly, arguing that Piranha Plant can't fight when he is already in the game, and clearly fighting, is silly.

We only got one D.K newcomers (Would have been cool to see Dixie, Cranky, Funky, or The N64 D.K Crew)!

And Metroid just got a clone and a character who plays disturbingly similar to Charizard to some extent (Ridley)!

Also! I do promise to be a little more pleasant this time around (Pinky swear)! As I have been dealing so many folks who have had worse things to say about me and my suggestions (On Youtube, Twitter, Deviant-art, ect..)
Here, since you promised to be polite with this little debate, I'm gonna try and do the same.

Ridley is basically a dragon, so it isn't too surprising that he'd have at least some similarities to Charizard...

I don't like Dark Samus' status as clone either, but that's probably the only way we'd ever get her in Smash, and you know what? I'm mostly okay with that

As for DK having one rep, Ultimate had limited unique newcomer spaces compared to previous entries, so it makes sense to limit it to one per franchise.

I hope this came off as politley as possible, and if not, my apologies

I really just want to try out World of Light to see if I can reenact this image:

Still a huge favorite of mine.
Ouch the PTSD is coming back; to think a clear reference to MH series covers would get appropriated for something else entirely... gah it hurts... HURTs to recall

OK. I have a serious question to ask you: Do you like anything about Ultimate?
Because every time I see you post something, it's negative.
You're completely entitled to your opinion...
But I just want to see if you have anything good to say about the game.
I like World Of Light, the Metroid content, K.Rool, Incineroar, Stage Morphing, Guile’s theme, the Mii costumes, the amiibo and Ken.

For the sandbag I was actually referencing another fighting game series entirely that had a sandbag as a playable fighter. He was from Waku Waku 7

Because what motivation would Wario really have?

The only reason he does any heroism is because of promise of treasure/cake (SM64DS) or the villain happened to piss him off.

I get that, I’m just using wario as an example. It’s just like to me, having Kirby be the star in that cool cutscene at the beginning just makes me roll my eyes. And I like Kirby too, it just feel antiquated for lack of a better word. Smash already plays like Kirby anyways, it’s not super interesting. Idk man, it just bugs me.

What you said still doesn't make me want to go and spend 20 dollars on a game that was neutered for the worst (With so many other wonderful thing's from the previous installments now forever gone with not much to do in the game itself)!

More of a "wouldn't really fit" due to the nature of the series. Besides that, he had no specific battle skills Sakurai could think of.

Thankfully he changed his mind.

Never heard of him. I only know of Sandbag to be playable in a Smash fangame. That said, this doesn't explain how he fights. I mean, I can think of a way to make a Grangach playable, and it's just a fish holding a giant stick.

Thematically, it makes sense why Kirby is the starting hero.
Kirby fights these kind of deity-like abominations on a regular basis.

The sad part is that I couldn't even see a single resemblance until I first saw it pointed out here. I just like the RPG feel I get from this anyway.
Back then when Healing spout was leaked through some ad, we thought that it was growth spurt from golden sun, and not helping the fact at same time grinch leak was still going strong. After final smash direct, every hope isaac fans that have got crushed when they saw Isaac being AT again, and it was deconfirmed that it is not growth spurt from golden sport but just another healing item.

It's okay man. We're all coping with the loss of Smash Tour.

We get a Resident Evil rep, but it is Tofu from the extra mode of RE2.

Your reaction?

Come on, that’s barely an excuse. Link fights a bunch of demons and gods, mario’s fought a bunch of crazy things over his career, Samus fights some terrifying monsters. The fact that Kirby routinely fights weird deity-like things just makes it less interesting, because it just becomes a Kirby game. I get that’s the point, but it’s not a very interesting one to me.

I hope to god Byleth doesn’t make it in, will only accept Edelguard as the 3H rep.
I just hope we don't get any Fire Emblem wi-fu warriors this time around (Especially if they just have swords and don't have anything to set them apart from Marth)!

Fire Emblem took up most the roster and along with Mario/Pokemon!!! We don't need anymore F.E representation!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!!

Whoever made the Grinch Leak is a cruel, sadistic, manipulative person who gave hope to those who hadn't seen any and pinned half of the community against the other half. So basically, the leaker was actually the Grinch.

Nothing any of them faced is anywhere close to Galeem.

Kirby's greatest opponents were.
Link's worst opponent was BotW Ganon.

Void Termina? Would eat Ganon for lunch.

"Terrifying monsters"? "Crazy things"? "Demons and Gods"?

Yeah, small fries.
Kirby's rogues gallery consists of Eldritch Abominations.
