Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

What? /b/? It's mostly bad porn and gore. Just keep away from it and you'll be fine.

We don't touch /mlp/ though. ****'s ****in' gross.
The only characters that I've ever liked in MLP ever are Maud and Snails (One of which is originally one of the most hated characters in the entire show, and is now some underrated character that has his characterization (Which I liked) abandoned by some of the fandom). Everyone else is either meh, or I just don't care about at all.

I like how IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK went from a dumb meme to a rallying cry against Incineroar hate.
Man, the speculation days were wild.
Its pretty fun when you think about it. Incineroar went from "ugh, this guy?", to gradual acceptance if not some resentment from the community, to a laughingstock because of Grinch, to an absolute heel because he singlehandedly deconfirmed the Grinch leak within minutes of the direct starting, and then soon after a beloved heel in the community. You can't say he didn't earn his spot after what he'd been through.

Is it a problem that I'm not a Pokèmon fan and I don't care of Pokèmon, but I'm happy that Incineroar is in the roster only because I like cats?
(even though he looks nothing like a cat).

****, just missed page 8000. Least I was around for 6969

And we better be ready to honour Mr. Game & Watch when we reach the blessed 9999

P.S. Decidueye may have got left out, but at least he got Pokken. Primarina got zilch.
Decidueye in Pokken.

Incineroar in Smash.

Primarina in Mario Kart. Make it happen, Nintendo.

Ok, it was good meme. At least its no Bowsette.
The thing I will say about Bowsette, is that it did the impossible.
it got people attracted to Bowser, somehow... That's quite a feat that you can't ignore

Imo though, I found the meme pretty dumb

So I have a plan to get ultimate early but I don't know if it will work
Well... don't leave us hanging.
Well it all relies on when Gamestop gets their copies in. There is a girl at my local Gamestop who started about 4 weeks ago. A friend of mine preordered a certain game a few weeks ago and inquired about it when he went to Gamestop. The new girl checked to see if he had it all paid for, which he did, and he asked her "when are you getting the copies in?" Now the game was gonna be released in a few days, so they already had copies. She, being confused, went to the back and gave him a copy of said game, thinking it was released (despite the fact that the release date should've been on her screen when she looked up the preorder). He told me about this, and about a week ago I asked her about the situation and if she was ever caught. Apparently she didn't even know she did something wrong before I told her, and she apparently never got in trouble (assuming because they don't do inventory until january or febuary but I don't know).

Point is I could convince her to do the same thing for me but that might be slightly illegal

He really went through a character arc of some sort, it's hilarious.

Has there been any notable examples (Like Overwatch) where the balance changes mainly focus on the hype/some groups instead of the foresight for how the meta would delve into, which results into some messy metas that affect some of the scene.
I know the Injustice games have had issues where they would jump to quick buffs and nerfs based on casual play which led to some silly things like nerfing characters who weren't even that good to begin with like Harley in Injustice 1 who got a nerf like every patch despite not being super good to begin with(and oddly enough most of her nerfs didn't really change her tiering at all).

Speaking of TV, has anyone here not interested in watching movies, or TV shows, since for me I find them usually kind of boring unless there some form of crime/case/funny shows like COPS, Undiscovered, Sunny in Philadelphia and maybe some few others.

No, no, Lemme give you a hint:

"Anon steals HWNDU flag from that transformer actor"

There, that should give you which board I am referring to.
I know what board you're talking about, and yes it's bad, but the example you gave made it sound fun because that saga is one of the funniest moments in internet history

You already screwed it up by letting her know what happened, now she’s less likely to do it again. You should have just hoped she would make the same mistake again lol

She seems like a sweet person who just made a small mistake... No need to drag her into this, and risk her losing her job...

Old and crusty?

Excuse you.

It's vintage.

Also.

It's over 8000.
Dang it. You beat me to it.
It's hard not to sleep in on college weekends.

Some people were already attracted to Bowser. (I'm not even joking)
The Bowsette meme just made it more mainstream.

hmm....Bowette is really dumb as a meme, and it's just Peach-Bowser.
More like Bowser delving into the experience as a female Humanoid (Something which he is not used to at all), and also being in a situation that makes it a bit more complicated in narrative (Basically Lore, and waifu reasons).

Snake was in because it was asked. It had jack-all to do with Nintendo. Sonic didn't get into Melee due to the fact it was too late into development. Nothing hints at Sakurai giving a rat's *** that Sonic had zero Nintendo appearances at that point. People need to let it go. Them being an iconic character was the reason they're getting in, not some Nintendo appearances. Bayonetta's your exception. If Master Chief isn't getting in, it has jack-all to do with some "hasn't had his game on Nintendo/barely was a costume". It's because Microsoft doesn't want their character on an opposing console. Which is fair, since Halo is 1st party and not meant to be on something beyond PC/Xbox.

No. They constantly promote different Pokemon starters over one another. It's a poor comparison and always will be because promotions don't work that way.

The "important starter" is chosen for your playthrough from the beginning. Gamefreak chooses the most important starter to promote. Decidueye barely was promoted. Primarina was barely promoted. Incineroar had tons of promotion. So did Greninja. That wasn't so much the fact they became the main starter for people to know, but Sakurai chose the characters who also were intended to be important in the anime. They were factors. He already is well aware those Pokemon aren't all treated as equally promoted. He actually pays attention to what Pokemon is promoted. There are exceptions, obviously.

The reason Pokemon isn't comparable, is that Sakurai also doesn't choose Zelda characters from concept art only. He actually set aside a slot for Pokemon and Pokemon only. He isn't going to do that for the Zelda series. That means he has no reason to choose a Champion that way either. None can stick out at this point, because all he sees is 4 equally promoted characters. Coincidentally they're all Stickers.

And you're wrong about Incineroar too. He had concept art that literally showed him hanging out with Ash. He already knew the character was going to be promoted. Only Incineroar was shown hanging out with other trainers. The other two were just shown by themselves(and pre-evolutions). It doesn't mean he would've guaranteed chosen Incineroar, but yes, he was well known as being a key promotional factor. Something the other two were not.

It doesn't mean it happens all the time with every Pokemon, but they've been doing it for a while now. And they're going to keep choosing a Pokemon to promote for the anime because it's an advertisement that works. People know the anime. Ash is way more known than Red too. It makes sense.

Greninja actually did not have art that promoted him as clearly being part of the anime. We don't even know if Sakurai knew that already. But he's an exception here. However, being as Sakurai doesn't look at concept art that early on when choosing characters except for Pokemon, it means, again, this is irrelevant to the Champions. Unless new promotional material pushes one as more important, they're just a group that belongs together and is hard promoted that way. It makes way more sense to just treat it that way and not try to make one more special when choosing Smash content. Having them all as Spirits is very logical.
I'm sorry, but you're really exaggerating how often a starter Pokemon gets so much promotion that they become the clear-cut most important starter Pokemon.

With Gen II, Gen IV, and Gen V, I don't even think you can make a case for one starter being pushed way harder than the rest. The promotion between starters in advertisements and the anime was so inconsistent that you couldn't tell who the heck Game Freak was trying to push more. And as far as Ash being an indicator of who will get heavier promotion, that's not always the case. You can use that argument to support Incineroar if Torracat evolves, but what about Sceptile and Blaziken? Ash owned a Sceptile, May owned a Blaziken. Do you really think Blaziken has gotten less promotion than Sceptile?

There have been cases where starter Pokemon have gotten a bigger push from TPC than the rest, but Charizard, Greninja, and maybe Blaziken are the only examples where I think it's made incredibly obvious. Incineroar has concept art that features Ash and about five minor appearances in the anime, none of which really make him this standout promotional success like you're portraying him as. The fact that so many people were confused with Incineroar's inclusion makes that abundantly clear.

I don't know what Sakurai's process would be for choosing a Champion, but I can't imagine it being much different from Incineroar. In other words, "I liked this character and wanted it in Smash."

Don't do it, mate. With how much of a priority Smash Ultimate is, I don't advise doing that at all.

Ooh we talking about 4chan? I’ll say that I do still browse it a lot and I vastly prefer it over sites like reddit, but man I just can’t get sad thinking about how the site used to be. ****posting and wojak spam kills any actual discussion. It’s a real shame.

ok fine she can keep her job for now but when animal crossing comes out don't expect me to have the same mercy
I don't know if you're being serious or not but risking the job of someone over a game is simply just not ok. Just have a little patience.

Same for me but mostly because he is a grappler (and there wasn't any grappler in this game).
