Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Of course, I am still gonna play Pichu occasionally. It just seems weird to try and resolve the complaints regarding Ganondorf's lack of sword usage but make self damage an even bigger problem for Pichu.

*shrugs* People say Bowser Jr.? Pretty much everyone buffed in one way or another, so it's hard to say.
I agree with Osby. Let me add what I know. There were many nerfs for Bowser Jr. who wasnt too much hot last game.People thing he might be the worst because of it. Add that most of his issues from the last game are still there.

That's a part of his core design, so I can get it. Ganondorf is still a slower but stronger Captain Falcon, just like Pichu is still a more nimble but more fragile Pikachu.

Nerfs really? He was pretty bad in the previous game and it's only worse that he was underused among the players... please tell me there's some buffs...

I think you might be right. I've heard Bowser Jr. has received nothing but nerfs! The poor guy didn't deserve any of it óvò
I think people are Up-Bing jumping ship too quickly regarding Bowser Jr. His cannon and Mechakoopa have received great buffs.

I consider nerfs to be a test of dedication to a character. Are you giving up and switching to someone better, or are you determined to beat as many people as possible with the haracter you enjoy the most?

Regardless of whether your main is Pikachu or Bowser Jr., just play the game and have fun. Not everything has to be about winning.

He got buffs though. His aerials have less ending lag and all of his specials bar Abandon Ship seems more useful now.

Also, Samus has better aerials, a better roll and grab, better throws, mostly better smashes and better specials overall. Don't know people's definition of "enough" buffs, but she got her share of them.

The only two buffs, I remember are:
-Down tilt can eat food.
-Less ending lag for neutral b special.

That's true, buffs or nerfs won't really change my interest in using who I enjoy using I'm Smash.

Admitted I did have a tough time with Falco who I loved in Melee and Brawl, I rarely used get him in 4 though, one of the only notable times I kinda dropped a highly used character of mine.

Really now? That's great to know! I'm glad they didn't just nerf Bowser Jr. completely into oblivion. Maybe he won't be the very worse after all!

Yes, I agree! No matter how good or bad the characters who I like are, I'll keep using them no matter the case. I'm definitely the determined type~

In all fairness, not everything has to be about loyalty either. For some people the fun comes from doing everything they can do to win. Even as a Charizard loyalist in Smash 4, I won't lie that I didn't see the appeal of switching to Mewtwo and making Zard a secondary. Gettied bodied over your character's heavily exploitable weaknesses just isn't that fun.

Of course I don't think most Bowser Jr. mains were playing soley to win, so it'd be odd if they all gave up on him so quickly.

I just realized I kind of feel bad for Geno fans as I remembered Mario has crossed over with SE multiple times after SMRPG and Geno couldn't even get a cameo in any of them
The Peach's Castle stage in Fortune Street even got a remix from SMRPG. That would've been a golden opportunity for a cameo.

I honestly think Nintendo just doesn't see value in Geno anymore.

I think you're taking this too personally. I think it's a little too early for the N64 Classic. Wait until like, 2021 when the GCN turns 20.
SNES Classic came out the year after the NES Classic. There's no reason the original console releases should have any bearing on the releases of the Classic.

The issue is that everyone got better aerials and those other buffs are patching up her serious flaws with what is essentially a band-aid.
Probably her most defining tool was her dash attack leading into combos and that's been neutered.

As of right now, she neither has the versatility of most characters nor the outstanding strengths of others.

I agree. I mained jigglypuff for 3 games and even though she was trash in two of them, I wouldnt stop using her. I think its better to work with what you have that stop playing it just because its not optimal.

I just realized, if everyone was there when Galeem "killed" them, what reason did :ultridley: have to be friendly?

Like, I understand :ultbowser::ultkingdedede::ultganondorf: and even :ultkrool:but Ridley is the most evil of them all morally.

My mains in Melee: Samus and Kirby
My mains in Brawl: R.O.B., Toon Link, and Samus (and occasionally Snake and Jigglypuff)
My mains in Smash 4: R.O.B., Dedede, Samus, Mega Man, and Jigglypuff (and occasionally Kirby and Ganondorf)

While many of you are just now merely adopting the tier darkness, I was born in it, molded by it.

Samus dragged him to there after beating him up. I thought that part was obvious.

Mained Zelda and Jigglypuff in Brawl AND Smash For. I regret nothing.

Honestly, tiers matter far less in victory unless you're in the top 20% of players.

At most points below that, being strong doesn't matter much if you're unable to use that strength. It's far better to have a good understanding of a mediocre character than a surface-level understanding of a strong character.

Wait, so camping with Cloud in Smash 4 so I can fill my Limit Gauge isn't a good understanding of him!? But I thought I was a pro with Cloud!!

Pretty much. I only really play semi-competitively with my friends and family, and we're not pros and don't try to be. So I can play basically anyone and have just about as much of a chance of winning as the other people I'm playing with. My brother is a dedicated Little Mac main, and he's pretty good because he's just played him so much, yet he hasn't really done any practice or research to see how to take advantage of the character. I'd be interested and afraid to see what that would be like.

The only issue is that my other brother plays characters that just happen to have really good frame data. Mewtwo, Pikachu, Mario, and now Simon. Playing against them as R.O.B. or Samus is a challenge because his moves are all so much faster than mine. I can usually trip him up with Dedede, though. He has trouble dealing with the King.

Personally, I’m in the middle ground between loyalism and playing to win where I play characters I like, but, if one of my favorites is bad enough to be frustrating in the competitive-ish side of online, I’ll switch mains among characters I like. It doesn’t matter so much for me in casual play of course.

That's one reason why you should pray that your favorite character doesn't get any OP braindead moves. They're basically guaranteed to be nerfed/tweaked in the next game if casuals constantly exploit those moves to win.

This is also why I don't mind my characters being mid or low tier. I get to play them because I like them as a character, not because they're mechanically or statistically superior in some way, and thus there aren't hundreds of other people playing them for that reason.

So I can be Dark Samus and not have to be associated with people just gaming the tiers.

Bayonetta fans got it the worst, sadly.

Ridley is not worse than Ganondorf. Ganondorf is a goddamn demon king. Ridley is just a vicious pirate.

To be honest, I'm a fan of her and I'd probably try to main her more if there wasn't such a huge negativity around her in the last game. Even she got nerfed, people are still complaining because one casual match.

Eh, maybe along with Isabelle and Richter, I'll try to get good at her this time, even though combo characters aren't usually my thing.

Ridley literally has no redeeming or good qualities whatsoever. He's a vicious monster, except he's really smart and knows what he's doing.

Ridley murders for fun and terror
Ganondorf murders for the injustice put on his race
No, Ganondorf murders because he's the reincarnation of an ancient demonic embodiment of hatred. The racial injustice is just a convenient excuse.
