Welp. It's certainly possible he could be a weird DLC Pokemon choice to be released near or alongside the movie.

Seriously, they probably didn't add a Detective Pikachu alt because he can talk, and he can't use attacks. He's an entirely different character.
I know hypothetically you could just slap a hat on him and call it a day but maybe they didn't want to misrepresent the character.

Yeah but for some reason Nintendo don't want to make money and sell us Alt costumes.

Instead they decide to sell us Mii Costumes. And for some reason I don't think those sell very much.

I know there's probably more work for alt costumes but they'd be SUCH a good idea to sell.

My reasoning was that even with my more casual friends I don't know a single one who actually bought a mii costume at all or even played the character. Even online I don't really hear much.

It's more about which potential DLC characters' games will show up anyway. Nobody here actually expects the game to get an award before it's out.

I bought a few of them... but, given that some of the DLC costumes seem to be returning included in Ultimate (costumes like the Falcon, Chrom, and Smash T-shirt costumes have been spotted so far) it might’ve been kind of pointless in the long run, ahaha... just like most of Smash 4’s DLC then, if you think about it...

If Miis are indeed fully usable online this time, DLC Mii costumes will be a much better value than in Smash 4, though.
