Of all the counters implemented this time around, the only ones that imo made sense were Shulk and Little Mac. And, if you want to count it, Villager.

The rest could've found inspiration elsewhere.

What annoys me about counters are how bland they usually are.

Most counters all feel pretty much the same with the exception of three, being Shulk's, Corrin's, and Bayonetta's. Even then, Shulk's and Corrin's counters are just more flashy than the rest, while still being functionally the same. Bayonetta's counter was definitely a unique spin on counters, I'll admit, but it didn't help that it's disgustingly broken.

So much more can be done to differentiate them with the rest, you just have to get creative. Hopefully some of the existing counters will be changed up to be more unique, or just be replaced/removed.

I merged some franchises like Arms and Xenoblade 2 because people probably just want X the franchise represented and most probably someone who votes for Twintelle would still be happy with Spring Man. This is the reason I did not merge things like Pokemons or Mario characters together, because most people voting for Y Pokemon or Z Mario Character specifically want Y or Z and don't want any other Pokemon or Mario Character.

While I know the list might get **** on for having Goku at the top, it still sort of proves which characters are on the casual Nintendo fan minds, be it through trolling, through a meme or whatever.

And I just wanted to point out that a week ago people were discussing how Golden Sun isn't remembered by anyone and it's a dead franchise. I just want to point out that it is apparently still remembered and still tops polls in terms of popularity.

Greninja's is a little more unique since its the only counter where you can change the direction of where you hit them.

Also are you talking about Villager's Pocket? If so then that doesn't exactly function like a counter.

Counters should be divided into four types with a small amount of the first three types.

1. Counter attack with knockback, yet little damage
2. Counter attack that deals damage, but little knockback
3. Middle of the road

4. Counter that gives an effect
(example: Decidueye's counter places a target on a person. Attacks do more damage and shield damage.
Target length depends on damage delivered)

I merged some franchises like Arms and Xenoblade 2 because people probably just want X the franchise represented and most probably someone who votes for Twintelle would still be happy with Spring Man. This is the reason I did not merge things like Pokemons or Mario characters together, because most people voting for Y Pokemon or Z Mario Character specifically want Y or Z and don't want any other Pokemon or Mario Character.

While I know the list might get **** on for having Goku at the top, it still sort of proves which characters are on the casual Nintendo fan minds, be it through trolling, through a meme or whatever.

And I just wanted to point out that a week ago people were discussing how Golden Sun isn't remembered by anyone and it's a dead franchise. I just want to point out that it is apparently still remembered and still tops polls in terms of popularity.

Dragonball is ****ing huge in Latin America so I'm not surprised about Goku.

I was wondering why in the hell so many people would honestly vote Goku... Then I remembered this was a Latin poll.

Good god I love DBZ but LA takes it to an uncomfortably high level.

I would honestly not complain if most of the counters simply got removed.

They really only make sense for a few specific characters, whose counters I wouldn't mind if got reworked into more unique forms of the concept. Some counters don't even work properly a majority of the time and will just miss, and using most other moves would have been more effective to punish.

They're frustrating and hated to newer players, near useless to higher level players, and just take up a move where almost literally anything else would be more interesting in it's place.

I seriously don't understand the idea of all these characters having a move to punish poorly placed/predicted attacks when you have better ways to punish it almost every single time, even in FFA.

Some counters shouldn't completely negate damage too. It makes sense for counters like Peach's or Shulk's or Bayo's but for the FE counters they should at least take some damage before retaliating.

Do you not consider them to be successful? I mean SS didn't sell as well as other Zelda games normally sell, but it was still a success, or so I believe.

Also I personally don't consider 3D World Odyssey's predecessor, because it's 2 different kinds of Mario. 3D World is another change in formula from the New Super Mario Bros formula. While Odyssey is a new formula (or old I guess, because it's trying to go back to 64 era) to the Galaxy series.

I view them as successful, but not very successful.

Both suffered decline from their predecessors. TP to SS was a heavy decline. How heavy 3D World's decline is varies on what you compare it to, but decline is never favorable.

That being said, both were far from failures. But their level of success is simply not on the level of BoTW and Odyssey, and it's obvious why Nintendo opted to make the latter 2 opposed to not making big changes.

It's probably the lowest because most people will not know who he/she is. My native language is Spanish and I read a lot of Nintendo news in Spanish (although I play the actual games in English) and I had no idea that Robin's name was Daraen.

I think you misunderstood my original post. I never said failure, but underperformance. SS was certainly not a failure.

Regardless, I certainly agree. BoTW was a big change for the franchise. That was a huge part of the appeal (disclaimer, I am not a Zelda fan), at least from what I observed online.

It's interesting how low Bandana Dee is in that country. Having the same votes as Marx even. Golden sun being that high is also surprising. Especially in regards to other character on that list. Goku isn't surprising though.

Also are you talking about Villager's Pocket? If so then that doesn't exactly function like a counter.

When you get used to Wii Fit Trainer, she's fairly consistent.

Palutena just feels sluggish and has several moves that seem useless.

I am going to echo this.
Palutena needs to be more agile. She is way too slow and lame for a goddess. She either needs a buff or a move-set change.
Wii Fit Trainer's move-set is fine. Just buff Wii Fit Trainer as well.

I'd really love to see an evil swing this time around. Medusa or Hades, K. Rool, Ridley, a real Ganon, Kamek and Wolf. Half of the Newcomers as villains. A huge villain trailer would be amazing. What do you guys think?
