I will say people are way jumping the gun on Sora. For all we know there may not be another SE rep. Just because Verge was reliable for base game doesn't mean he's immune to being wrong ever now. It really is best to wait for Nintendo to announce something themselves, or wait for something a little more definite than a single individual's word.

If any of you guys are legitimately upset about 3rd party characters getting into Smash, the one thing that I will say helped open me up to them was playing a ton of different series.

For some people it’s simply not possible, but after getting through Brawl and really loving how Snake played, I bought a PS3 and played MGS4, then got Twin Snakes on GameCube, then got the MGS Collection. Fell in love with the character and the series.

After that, I explored numerous other game series. The reason my main 3rd party hope (I’m pretty well off in terms of the roster as it is) is Lloyd Irving, and I really like Lloyd, after finally tracking down a used copy of Tales of Symphonia, was because the game just had a pretty cool story, memorable characters, solid voice acting...and that was just a few years ago. I highly recommend it.

Meanwhile, I come onto Smash forums and some avoid great 3rd party characters and series like the plague, and I simply don’t get it. There are some simply brilliant 3rd party games out there that you really should try if you have the opportunity. That’s how I branched out and have thus broadened my prospect pool. It’s worth it imo.

Not very, considering Fates wasn't even out in the US when they finalized the roster (and probably DLC plans) for Ultimate.
Could see it happening in a hypothetical season 2 though.

Pretty sure Verge believes Hitagi is credible, but didnt go the extra mile of chaging his claim of minecraft content to a character.
I think Verge isn't sure yet, and with Smash being a something as a streak for him, he wouldnt risk it.

Verge also gave credence to LOZ once upon a time.

Verge not going 100% on Steve being playable is enough for me to say. Maybe not.

I don't think as high as some would think. Remember Fates was out in Japan during the period when DLC was still being decided on for Smash 4 so it was out somewhere already and could be played to get ideas of how they would fight. Three houses on the other hand we don't even have a concrete release period for and from what we can see most if not all of the current DLC has likely already been selected.
Unless he pulls another Roy I don't see it happening.

Well that's what I've been saying. Again, I going for that Sakurai won't disappoint his fans (at least Geno fans).

As someone who appreciate cartoonish characters over realistic ones. I would not appreciate any Bethesda character in Smash.
Goemon made more sense than Snake and Simon, unfortunately he had none of the global sense.

Thats a fair stance to take. I will stick with that Square will not budge and its out of Sakurai's hands when it comes to Geno as a playable character, due to Square's interference.

Im not too familiar with Goemon, but you make a fair point. His more cartoonish look would fit more than the realism of Simon. As for Bethesda's involvement I just hope its that they are putting music in Smash from Bethesda. That would be amazing has they have beautiful music from composer Jeremy Soule.

Here's an example of some of his work, this is him with another composer. Im not saying this is the specific the song they would use, but something around that effect.

Lucas did get Eight Melodies too and it didn't make any sense. But I agree Pollyanna is even more specific than that.

One of my biggest gripes with this game and Smash 4 was the lack of updated victory themes. While I saw that some remained the same, the fact that others changed makes me really happy!

Most of my favorite games are not Nintendo. Not wanting 3rd parties has significantly more to do with wanting to see less well-known characters get a chance to shine in the only crossover they'll ever have a shot at appearing in.

TWEWY is my favorite game. So do I want Neku in Smash? Not really. He gets to show up in KH. I don't think it's out of the question he might appear in a Square themed crossover one day. After all, Sora has now showed up in the Final Fantasy crossovers despite not being FF. Neku could too.

But Isaac? Saki? Elma? Yeah, no. It's Smash or nothing. If they get in, it's special. Third parties not so much (especially when you consider the only 3rd parties with a chance are ones popular enough to get plenty of chances)

I thought for sure we were going to get one revealed in the base game, I can still see it happening though. Fingers are crossed it's not a swordsman and it's a lancer, axe user, healer or manakete if they do get one.

One can only hope, Capcom has a streak of being stubborn to things that should be obvious. Also with Disney buying Fox we have a high chance of Xmen and Fantastic Four characters returning.

Pick one. I have seen some absolutely disgusting things said from Japanese fanbases. The most known example I know of was when an artist made a popular character looking like another character of theirs on a Gacha game and the JP fanbase went ape**** at it just for looking similar and the artist not only got death threats, but they were also praising the death of his relative(I believe it was their father) that had ended up dying shortly after. And that's not counting the numbers of death threats against JP voice actors and actresses who get engaged.

That's me when ANYONE gets a new victory theme. I can't believe they're still using the ones from Brawl 10 years ago for most characters. Sonic is still using that direct rip from Sonic 06. I used to really enjoy hearing all of the new victory themes in each game.

Can you possibly do some speculating and digging on this idea/ theory.

Minecraft content is in the base game. Perhaps an unseen Mii costume, and/ spirits. The reason it hasnt been shown yet is because they want to keep the Microsoft partnership underwraps or lowkey.

The reason for this... Perhaps they'll announce Banjo DLC at the VGA's or a Nintendo direct before launch. So they don't want any hint of MS content to suggest the possibility of a MS rep.

I'm in the same boat being fine with the roster. There are additions I'd still like to see, sure, but I won't be sad if they don't make it in. I already got like, 12 characters or so I expect to enjoy playing very much, lol. I'm good.

However, I'm hoping DLC won't just be all 3rd party. I'd like to see first party get more attention. It's not that I hate 3rd parties (I love Sonic, Pac-Man and Snake) I personally just like Nintendo characters more.

Agreed, though I still can't wrap my mind around why they wouldn't want to sell echo fighters for like 2 bucks a piece.
Echo fighters seem like the biggest missed opportunity in Ultimate. Its such an easy way to add some highly requested characters and we really only got a handful of them. I think they're crazy for not doing echoes as DLC.

I guess only time will tell, but they really made it sound like they don't have plans for any future echoes.

We all assume how easy echoes are to make, but none of us have actually made one ourselves. Who's to say Sakurai didn't think the time needed to animate and rebalance another character was a worthwhile use of time and budget?

Mii costumes only require play testing to make sure they visually don't glitch out in some way. Echoes certainly take more work than that. If costumes were a thing-- like the way that Injustice does it, for instance-- that seems easy. Echoes, I believe, require more work than we often assume here.

How much of the Smash 4 DLC was third party in terms of percentages and why is it all of a sudden that people are making their lists 100% third party?

Like, realistically speaking, if I had to guess (in no particular order):

1. Steve (Not because of Verg I was the original steve defender )
2. FE: Three Houses
3. Mach Rider
4. F-Zero (Based on Mc.Rad 's theory that there's a new F-Zero teased)
5. Geno

The thing is: Piranha Plant is a limited time offer, but only insofar that he is free for that time, you'll still be able to buy him later after January 2019.

I think part of the salt, beyond the fact that Piranha Plant is a silly idea, is that "it's not Geno".

I'm serious, most of the reactions I've watched have had the reactor say "Geno! It's Geno!" when the Piranha Plant trailer starts.
