Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I just want to remind you all, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has not, and never will, appeared on a Nintendo console.

Yet just like in Brawl with MGS4, MGSV gets representation.

This is the magic of Solid Snake. THIS is why we fought 10 long years to get him back. Amazing, crazy **** happens.

And then memes happened and as soon as I saw that one Spirit, all I could think of was:

"Why are we still here....? Just to suffer...?!"

First of all, Thanos is a Marvel character. And though Disney gets a say so Marvel gets the final word. Marvel Entertainment is a far more grounded corporate company than Disney.

Secondly, do you want to Sora to be available to play for a month, online only, then pulled from the game? No. Timed licensing deals are FAR easier to justify than what we all want for Sora.
Huh? Disney owns both Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Studios...

While I don't think Senjou is right AT ALL about the Granblue ****........

As someone who actually plays the game, it's gonna be hella weird how they incorporate Smash into their lore, because EVERY crossover is canon in Granblue.

I mean, hey, I'd be down with Dragon Quest too.

.........Hey, what if this DLC cycle is literally just 'mooks'.

What if :ultpiranha: was a warning?

Think about it.

Piranha Plant? DQ Slime? Creeper? We're all sitting here thinking "It's Steve", but....... the Creeper is the FACE of Minecraft, bar none, and if :ultpiranha: can ****ing work....
The thing is, Sakurai always seems to add a protagonist first from any new series he's representing. Of course, he could very well break this convention, but I believe we've yet to see a new franchise introduced in Smash with a generic enemy or side-character. At least, not yet.

Given this, it's a little hard to see Sakurai not going with Erdrick, DQ's most iconic hero, first.

(On top of that, I have a feeling that Slime, and other iconic DQ monsters, would be background details in DQ's stage. It just makes sense.)

Wait, the heck is Granblue?
And why is it possible for it to get a rep?
Senjougaha_Hitagi is apparently 'credible' according to Vergeben, though he hasn't heard the same thing that they have.

It's a mobile phone gacha game that Nintendo owns a 5% stock of in their company, and their company made Dragalia Lost.

That sounds ... fitting
Heck Spirits is gacha, bring a gacha character in, bring all their alts in, have five Lyn models and make them all assist trophies

How do you think the dlc sets will be released? Do you think the release of each set will be evenly spaced out until Feb 2020 or do you think that they will all be released around the same time a year from now?

Sakurai has stated that it takes around a year to develop a new character from scratch, but I feel like it makes more business sense to spread out the releases and that the first set should be released earlier than a year from now. This is why I feel like Sakurai maybe lying when he says that they haven't started working on any of the dlc yet.

Not exactly sure of the definition, but does Spirits counts as gatcha? There doesn't seem much luck-based parts then the previous games, since both adventure mode and the regular mode tells you which spirits will you get and there is even a shop for them.

I just "Press X to doubt" Senjou myself.

However, and I'll say this moreso as a warning:

Senjou has said that Cygames is working with AkSys to make a Granblue fighting game, and this December and March are two VERY big moments for Granblue(December is their yearly fan convention, March is their 5 year anniversary)

By some stroke of miracle, if this game gets announced, then there's reasonable doubt to start believing them.

For now, I'm not putting any credit in Senjou.

You forgot to mention the reference to the Sneaking Suit from Ground Zeroes.

Also unsure: does gacha strictly have to have a paid element? And I mean real life monies not purely in-game currencies.

I think Doomguy has big chances of being in. I think he could come out around the time Doom Eternal comes out, as a kind of cross promotion. He'd probably also be able to have his retro original Doom look, the one from the reboot and now his Doom Eternal look.

And the last piece of my argument:

Granblue came out in Japan in 2014, and the Roster(And DLC apparently) was finalized in December 2015. That would mean that negotiations for a character would have happened when the game was just a little over a year old.

Now yes, I don't doubt that negotiations on Dragalia Lost being developed couldn't have started back then, but I find it highly suspect.

That, and from the ways Senjou has worded Cygame's involvement in this ordeal, it sounds like they've only recently been heckling for Katalina in Smash, which goes against what we've heard about DLC.

So unless there actually IS a 2nd wave of DLC planned, something seems off here.

Wait, ArcSys is making a Granblue fighting game??

That's what Senjou has said.

If we see it, THEN we start taking them more seriously IMO.

I'm personally hoping for Senjou to be right just because of the potential for there to be more recent characters/2nd wave of DLC or DLC characters outside of the Fighter's pass. However, even if I want to believe due to that, I will not let what I want to be real blind me.

I personally don't believe Senjou. Not yet, at least. That may just be due to the fact I don't really know the leaker's history. Senjou has Vergeben's blessing, so that's something... Unless you don't really believe Vergeben in the first place either.

Sakurai said dlc was decided before Xenoblade 2 was announced so that's before Jan 2017. He never said dlc was decided in 2015, my guess is that it was decided in 2016.

He said DLC was decided with the game's planning phase, which ended sometime early 2016 I believe.
That's what makes Senjou's leak unlikely, or at the very least, difficult to believe.

Granted, Bill Trinen stated DLC is something they don't even think about that early until they've finished the game entirely.

Still, I find Hitagi's comments highly suspect.

The way they worded them almost assuredly sounded like Cygames had asked Nintendo THIS YEAR since they themselves were calling it "Last minute"

I just don't see it being a reality, frankly.

Now if this ArcSys fighting game appears out of thin air that they're claiming, I'll start sweating, but.... their comments just make my brain go:

So you're telling me this one mobile game has a massive fan convention?

That's...kinda scary.

Mate, Touhou, a PC game made by one guy, has had fan conventions that rake in thousands for over a decade.

'Games', if they're popular enough in Japan, get HUGE fan gatherings yearly. It helps support the doujin(Usually fanmade porn book) scene, while also being free advertising for the game.

I think the biggest killer for this Granblue leak is the reason Sakurai hasn't included characters like Takamaru and Lip is because they aren't recognisable to people outside of Japan.

Plus the whole reason they're making dlc is to make money so I doubt they will put in a character no one knows.

I'm pretty sure Gacha is more of seeing who you'll get in a pool. The best analogy for this is those gumball machines. You put in a quarter and you'll never know what flavor you get. Sometimes it'll be bad, sometimes it'll be good, or it'll be the literally best flavor you've ever received.. In World of Light or Spirits mode, it seems that you don't get the spirits based on luck. I think you earn these spirits depending on the difficulty of the fight.

For me, the proof will be if this ArcSys game appears.

I believe Hitagi is a credible leaker, they have to be due to the games that they've pulled out of thin air, but until I see this ArkSys game they're claiming, I'm remaining VERY skeptical.

Reimu when Sakurai?
Urban Legend in Limbo port when Nintendo?
