Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Why are we roasting Yoshi?
Pichu and Pikachu and Kirby don’t have much more than generic personalities either.

Fire Emblem characters are shallow, too. They speak, but they all sound like children in a play.

Samus doesn’t talk. And just wanders around being future Link basically. Fighting monsters because it’s cool. Her most expressive game was also the worst of them.

Wario is just a douche.

Mario is Italian. Not really his strong suit.

Snake is a real character.

Simon and Richter, with all the personality they seem to exude, never said anything. They just fought monsters. The story is their saving grace, just like the majority of characters.

Sheik and Zelda at least have some rhyme or reason.

Rob is ....

Duck Hunt...snickers and makes expressions and is somehow friends with his master’s kill.

Megaman....a hero who fights renegade robots.

Sonic the freaking hedgehog has more personality than most of these wannabe protagonists and that...isn’t impressive.

Ganondorf is better than Link regarding lore and personality. He has history. He has motives. He...is an idiot and fails all the time, but his dialogue is sometimes better than a generic villain. Sometimes.

Ryu and Ken have some neat story...but it’s not really central to the game either. You’re better off watching ONE animation and ONE live action. Ignore the rest.

There really aren’t many characters in the roster who have much of a fleshed out personality at all. Most of the personalities of Nintendo characters are somewhat assumed because fans all have head canon.
Wow...
You just straight up offended everyone on Smashboards.

I'd say Heihachi, especially since Tekken is more popular than Tales and Xeno combined. And I doubt Monster Hunter gets in the game since we have a healthy amount of Monster Hunter content in the base game.
Sora, Heihachi, Steve, Bethesda rep, Katalina are my guesses
You don't think there'd be a popular first party Nintendo character?

I think there's a disconnect, cause every time I try to compare characters you interpret that as "tearing them down"
Because it's never just comparing them. It's always about how Yoshi is better than them in one way or another. I don't care about you having these opinions, it's all subjective and that's fine. I don't like how I can't bring up a character without you shoving "you boi" down my throat.

This is precisely why Luigi is objectively the best Nintendo character.
Dark Moon portrays him with more personality in a solid few hours than most games manage to do with their characters over several hours. He acts like an actual human being, and it's great.

All third party huh? I definitely think it'll be majority third party but I'm unsure on all of it, would love to hear your reasoning on why though.

My personal opinion is

- Sora
- Bandana Dee
- Steve or Banjo (Entirely dependent on if they announce a new Banjo game at that Microsoft conference.)
- First party rep (Either Dixie or another rep from one of Mario/Zelda/Pokemon)
- Bethesda or Sega rep
Third Parties bring in hype and lots of money. Nothing more and nothing less. Who's going to drum up more hype? Bandana Waddle Dee, or Banjo & Kazooie?

We all know the answer.

Third parties being DLC also makes it easier to share profits between the companies involved, so it makes sense from a business standpoint as well.

Also, Nintendo doesn't really have any more essential first parties. All of the egregious exclusions were addressed in this game and then some. I would say that Dixie Kong, and maybe (it's a hard maybe) Bandana Waddle Dee are the only "Nintendo All-Stars" left, and even then they're not essential. If costumes can come back, then add Rex & Pyra, who are easily the most egregious exclusion this time.

If we're getting a first party DLC character, it's going to be Rex & Pyra. Mark my words.
  • Sora
  • Heihachi/Doom Slayer
  • Steve
  • Katalina
  • Rex & Pyra
This is less optimal, but still good.

I said I liked Yoshi's personality, and that it was better than Mario's. Did I say it was better than Luigi's, Rosalina's, Wario's and the like? No. Also you tried to bait me with that Inklings post when it was completely irrelevant to the discussion.

Also yes I have played the Mario RPGs

I don’t mean to diss. I love these characters, too. I’m just saying. They are gaming characters. Most of those in the roster aren’t lore-centric or about deep story. They don’t need to be either.

They are a form of entertainment that is interactive. Give me a goal and some neat mechanics and I love it.

I hope they never try to make Mario a deep, fleshed out character, because part of his charm is that he things go wrong and he goes and fixes it like a plumber to a leak.

He isn’t a well written character, but he is a very charming and entertaining one nonetheless.

On the cute debate, you can't deny that Isabelle is cuter than Yoshi/Kirby, and that Pikachu is probably cuter than her.

Hmm im not familiar with Eleven, but ill take your word for it. Yes they can be quite odd, but in the end they are just like any other company. They are willing to provide their fans with great content, and they do some surprise collaborations, but they want something in return. Even if their were two Square Enix reps as much as I would want to give Geno the benefit of the doubt. I would still have to say no, if there was two spots then it would be Sora and a Dragon Quest character. There is a reason why Super Mario RPG hasnt had a game despite the growing partnership with Nintendo and Square. Instead we get games like Octopath Traveler, which is a great game by the way. I could be totally wrong, but the way I see it, is like this. Its a 45% chance for Sora, 45% chance for a Dragon Quest character and 10% chance for Geno. I admit he does have a chance, but its a very small chance. And thank you, I try to be chivalrous. Unfortunately that term has been lost to people and they become rude when people do not agree with them. Still I always try to base my assumptions on facts and try to be a gracious loser ha. I would say the same about you, thank you for debating me in a kind manner. You'd be surprised how many people want to linch me for disagreeing with Geno's chances.

Ah you are correct, honestly when we know who the 5 are all will be laid to rest. I still think their will be a pattern to the DLC releases, but in the end Im just content we are getting them. Lol pre ordering Steve, unfortunately based on the leading evidence you might be.
Eleven is 11's hero. I'm not that familiar with him either, I've only scratched the game.

The reason I believe (and almost sure of) we don't get any more Mario RPGs is that basically Nintendo don't like RPGs. They don't believe it's the type of gener to follow or make, they stated that. It was the reason they clashed with Square in the first place, leading to Square departure from Nintendo to Sony's arms, where they found their success.
Since that game was a success Nintendo won't acknowledge, they stubborned a long time without RPGs. Eventually caving in to loud demands (maybe Geno fans) with Paper Mario, which they couldn't help turning into an action game. Then finally totally caving with Mario & Luigi RPG. That's what I'm trying to tell Geno fans, is that even if Geno came back, none of those parties want to make that game. Square is going for new as you say, and Nintendo won't waste their RPG efforts (which were a great success). That realization or conclusion is what actually might hurt Geno's chances, it all depends on sakurai though.

Ah, don't worry about it, there's always people like you who'll inspire good manners.
