I liked trophies back in Melee the most probably, but over the years, they became less special and more of a checklist, especially with Wii U's nearly 750 count including DLC trophies. Spirits at least have a gameplay purpose, which is something I was hoping we would see with Ultimate's collectibles, and from what I've seen so far, they look really great.

If there's 750 trophies in Wii U, then there are probably at least 10,000 spirits in the game.

I am so glad I'm not a completionist.

Oh yeah, civil wars were a thing in the native times. Tribes beating other tribes for certain reasons and whatnot, it's pretty interesting.

According to the direct on Thursday there was an announcement of 5 more characters added to the roaster that will be shown off next direct if I’m not mistaken.

I wonder if Nintendo held back on it to make fake leaks harder (upload brawl mod and play through switch's screen)

I think it's hilarious when people who don't have the right to be offended still act offended. I'm a native. I don't care in the slightest about this. A monochrome character with a bandanna from a game made in the early 80s is hardly a thing to be upset about.

Anyways, I am the only one who prefers Spirits to Trophies?

Honestly I preferred trophies. Was a nice 3D model with some cool descriptions to read. I had a lot of fun times looking through my trophies and looking at all their details. Spirits are basically just picture to me, which is about as exciting to me as googling a picture of the character.

They have some gameplay interaction but that wasn't what I liked about trophies in the first place *shrugs*

Pretty sure the Aztec and Incan Empires engaged in a lot of warring with other Mexican/South American tribes.

It's not like they were pure and innocent.

So this is going to be my first smash, can someone explain why the online stuff in the direct was considered underwhelming? It seems like everyone is upset with how online play handles matchmaking but im not exactly sure why.

Okay, I've decided.

I consider Spirits a deconfirmation. Each spirit has it's own unique fights and conditions. I dont see Sakurai making someone both a fighter and a spirit for this. Also, since DLC was decided during development, why would Sakurai decide on say, Chorus Kids as DLC, but then make them a Spirit?

That being said, I don't think Geno is a Spirit. If he was, Nintendo would've definitely shown him off, and we would've seen him by now outside of a profile icon.

So, I don't think Chorus Kids will be DLC. However, I do think Tibby will be.

My final predictions for DLC Season 1 are:

-Geno
-Tibby
-Bandana Dee
-Crash
-Doomguy

Crash and Doomguy are the ones I'm the most iffy on. It all depends when exactly the DLC was decided. If it was back in 2015-2016, I can kiss their chances goodbye. However, if it was 2017 - early 2018, I think they've got a shot.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we have something close to that number, especially since Sakurai didn't even try to give us an estimate.

I don't see myself actively collecting every single one, but I'll try to see if I can gather the spirits for all of my favorite characters/franchises at least. I kinda see them as individual pieces of an Art Gallery as well, so there is a draw to that as well...

At least the spirits are craftable and have event matches attached so you won't be at the complete mercy of the RNG.

I feel like Youtube coming was maybe part of some exclusivity with Hulu, as the 8th marks one year since Hulu came to Switch in the USA.

I hope either Netflix comes too or Hulu can be available in Canada on Switch.

Honestly, as a competitive player, I cared VERY little for things like trophies.
That said, I care even less for this spirits gamemode.

Before I had a nice Smash-unqiue model with flavor text to admire.
Now I have a gamemode where I bash in mindless bots for what is effectively a .png I could find on google images.
.pngs which help me punch more bots...

The Aztecs were also known for their brutal sacrifices. They conquered smaller tribes to sacrifice them from time to time. That's why the Spanish had native allies, those tribes were rebelling against the Aztecs.

Oh it definitely is, it's beautiful and perfect.. but don't ask a Mega Man fan X) It is short however, that's why it's priced $29.99. But that's the way it always been, and that's the way I like my Mega Man I have not playe DQ Builders however, so I can't make the comparsion you need. YT videos might help you there, sorry. As for slime, well, I don't know, the most recent one? although his slime is weird looking. They can decide that.

But Square already has Cloud. They don't need a Square rep. Are they that insistent? I'm not a Geno fan btw. Just trying to figure who's the most probable Sq rep.. I have my points, and you do certainly have points, you seem to know a lot about Square. Then I guess only time will tell. I want to get that fighter's pass but not until I know what are they. I hope it's sooner than Feb. 2019.

I think they could do the most recent Dragon Quest hero or they could do Jade from the new Dragon Quest she could work. I had to look up who she was, but after seeing her character I think it could work.

I feel like Square really is that insistent, it would be out of character from previous company business partnerships. Even in Final Fantasy 15 when they had the Assassins Creed festival it seemed like an out of nowhere partnership. Until you got to Assassins Creed Origins and realized Ardyn was in it and you could get Noctis's engine blade. Same with the Monster Hunter cross over with Capcom, it provided exposure to FF14 expansion. Or 2B in Soul Calibur 6, it provides exposure to Neir Automata or Noctis in Tekken. In fact a perfect example of this is Maximillian Dood a popular Youtuber who had never played FF15 and initially did not like Noctis in Tekken when he was announced. He ended up liking Noctis in Tekken so much that he decided to play FF15 to see what its about and fell in love with it. Every time that iv noticed that Square lends its characters there is always a benefit to them in some way. With Geno I just don't see them benefitting in any way in fact they would be charitable if he got in. And I know based on previous conversations I could tell you were just testing to see what was the best argument, which is very wise.

I only know a lot because I had done a lot of research beforehand to see who is the most likely candidate for the Square Enix rep. I did a lot of research, I looked into game sales, character polls outside of smash, Nintendo partnerships, partnerships with other companies and game popularity. By looking into all those factors I came to the conclusion the most likely candidates would be a Dragon Quest character or Sora. They just are more logical based on having high sales, high popularity, loyal fan base, partnerships with Nintendo and being representatives of Square Enix. Theres a lot more I could go into, but I would take forever in explaining it all.

I agree we wont know until they announce it and I think we will know by sometime in January as I think they will follow a pattern of every two months a character release. So if my logic is correct I believe the first DLC will be in February. As for Katalina I do not know enough about her to draw a conclusion yet. I do see another female character being a good thing, so ill just stick with that for now ha.

Considering Shantae is there I could see Risky and Rottytops being there too. Maybe even Sky. Would be fun to have them in their kidnapped princess attire too. lol

I’m Native and this has no effect on me. History is what it is. Here I am going to college, have a job, have a family, get to play smash. I played cowboys and Indians as a kid.
