Well, Halloween was fun, and now I’m gonna finally head off to bed. Been pretty busy at work, so there’s a good chance I’ll sleep through the direct...gonna have the site open overnight so I can see it first thing without getting spoiled.

I’m really expecting the Grinch to be true, but I can’t say I’d be too annoyed one way or the other. Unless Dovahkiin and/or Tails are inbound... The roster’s already great; I just want to see some awesome single-player content.

I say we erect this up in Sakurai Square and sing our praises to it every morning followed by self-criticism sessions in regards to Smash speculation.

I am equal parts excited and equal parts scared out of my wits. I know this is just a game. I know all leaks and rumors have never been proven to be true up until now. I know that regardless Ultimate will be a solid to fantastic game. K. Rool is in, Ridley is in, EVERYONE IS IN.

BUT...I am just too scared and excited as to what will be announced and what characters will be confirmed because with all these speculations, silence from the media, all the conspiracy theories and more it's like ANYTHING can happen in this Direct and we will all lose our collective crap.

As to what I am expecting, well, EVERY SINGLE LEAK AND RUMOR, including the banner leak/Grinch leak, has been put aside because I don't want to believe in any of them only to be disappointed. So those characters I will have reserved. I AM, however, expecting a surprise character. A character that no leaker has ever mentioned to pop up. It doesn't have to necessarily discredit any leaks, but I just feel Sakurai has something up his sleeves and there has to be a character no one expected yet we all realize how awesome he/she is.

Because let's pretend the banner leak is real and ALL those characters get revealed. Excellent, amazing, wonderful. But because we have been talking about them for so long, being confirmed wouldn't be as surprised (unless you were one of those that successfully dodged the leaks and rumors). Sakurai MUST have another trick up his sleeve, another surprise. And what that surprise could be?

A brand new Namco character.

Think about it; Sega has (technically) two characters with Sonic and Bayonetta (three with Shadow if we accept the leak as fact). Konami has three characters. Namco only has Pac-Man. For a company that is co-developing the game not having a second rep feels weird. So I feel this would be the time to drop a new Namco rep there...

If they want for the super mega 'OH MY GOSH!!!!!!" factor that character is KOS-MOS from the Xenosaga franchise. Now while I know that her games were developed by Monolith and it shares an universe with Xenogears and Xenoblade, her games were published by Namco. So if they wanted to truly surprise us, KOS-MOS would be the Namco rep to do just that.

If they aim for a "somewhat safe but still satisfying" rep, I feel Lloyd Irvin from Tales could make it in. He had a costume in Smash 4, and many felt he has a lot of potential as a Smash character. Since Ultimate is being built as the Smasher's game, he can be that fan choice character.

If they go for a super mega safe choice, it's Heihachi from Tekken. He had a costume in Smash 4, and if Namco wanted to represent their own fighting game legacy, I can see them putting him in, even though he as a character would be kinda bland.

As for my next expectation, I FEEL it is their obligation to talk about the online modes and how the Nintendo Switch online service plays into it. It's no secret that the service has been met with severe disdain and criticism for its lack of features, lack of cloud saves on some games etc. I get that the Splatoon fanbase in general is angry, but the service lives and dies with Smash. No matter how loud the Splatoon community may get, the Smash community WILL scream if the online service provides connections that are worse than in Brawl, and we paid 20 bucks for that. With the service in desperate need of a title that utilizes it greatly, Ultimate has to be it.

If by "math" you mean basic calculations (as in simple binary "is there a character on x day?" y/n), then yes.

Blog theory isn't based on math. It's based on hypothetical scenarios. Saying it's based off of math makes it sound smarter than it actually is.

Fighting-Steel
Skill: Nihil, Negates secondary properties of attacking moves
Signature Move: Aether, lowers the enemy's defense before unleashing a physical HP draining attack, both fire and steel type.

Spoiler: Cloud

Flying-Steel type
Skill: Limit Break- If Cloud stays in for 3 turns, his signature move changes
Signature Move: Braver, mediocre, but reliable physical steel type attack. Limit Broken: becomes Omnislash. Powerful finishing move. Removes limit after use.

Steel-Fairy type
Skill: Rally, On switching out, incoming ally receives physical attack boost.
Signature Move: Falchion. Physical Steel type attack that is devastating against dragon-types.

Skill: Courage, if a user's stat is lower than an enemy's, he will buff himself in that stat.
Signature Move: Master Sword: Reliable special Fairy type move that decreases enemy speed. Deals more damage at full HP.

Skill: Tactical Advice, reveals all of the enemy's stats, items, and moves upon switching in.
Signature Move: Ignis. Adds half of the physical attack stat to the special attack stat, before unleashing a special dark type attack.

Skill: Monado Arts, on switching out, buffs transfer to next Smasher.
Signature Move: Vision, protects user, on activation, given speed, defense, and sp. defense buff.

Signature Move-Splat Roller-Poison type. Attacks all enemies on the opposite side. Has a chance to flinch, has a chance to poison.

Ability-God of death. If hp is low, Ridley enters his Meta Ridley form. Gaining the steel type and refilling his hp.

Normal type
ability-Assistant. Any moves that help allies double their affect.
Signature move-New Leaf-Normal type. Changes depending on weather.

Rock/Dragon type
Ability-Alter ego. Changes type depending on held item. (Pirate hat=Dragon/Water. Lab coat=Dragon/Steel. Boxing gloves=Dragon/Fighting)
Signature move-Kannon Ball-Rock type. Summons cannon balls to crush all enemies. Has a chance to flinch.

As long as his work periods get more healthier. I think one of the best pieces of Smash news was that Ultimate's development was much more better for his health.

Lowkey I find it super interesting that so many insiders have come out of the woodwork to comment on this leak. Like something about this leak sparked them. And their only arguement is "Is fake trust me". Seems like damage control.

Not to say you're wrong, but to add on to what perfectchaos83 said, I'm pretty sure one of the reasons so many insiders have addressed this leak is because of how many people they had begging them to comment on it. In fact, some fans went so far as to make accusations of a cover up if they felt the insiders didn't say enough. Kind of a no-win situation for them.

Well, it's been an interesting road, this pre-release. It's been our shortest ever, yet also the most tense. I hope that people get something that makes them happy tomorrow, and that come Dec. 7th, we can all enjoy the game.

Here's hoping tomorrow's Direct is a good one, good enough to blow away even 8.8's!

Geez you make it sound like math has to be inherently complicated to be named as such. It's statistical analysis based on previous information to make an educated predication. So yes....he used math.

APR was sent a banner to make promotional material based off of it. Why would they NOT have the full banner? And why would they leave out ONE character?


You'd think that if they were afraid of it 'leaking', they'd hide a more high profile character like Banjo, not friggen Incineroar.

That is more difficult to guess. It would require one thing "context". The reason we cant make sense of it is because we dont have the full picture. For comparison, think back to Smash 4. The Gematsu leak predicted a lot of stuff with scary accuracy including stuff like the name Mii Fighters or Wii Fit Trainer. Without context, one would simply wouldnt be able to make sense of what happened. That is until we get the "context" which in this case is the information from Sakurai that Chrom was planned at some point and the icon and enemy from Rhythm Heaven pointing out that the Choir Boys were really planned at some point. Then for that, we can guess that Gematsu was an early information leak.

Possibilities of Incineroar not being there could be many. Maybe he is DLC. Maybe he will be revealed later in a pokemon direct at a later date. Maybe the material sent was incomplete as a measure from Nintendo to keep complete information from leaking and there many people working with different rosters. Maybe the Grinch Leak is fake.

The point is that the possibility for both being true is there. We just need to wait and see since there is no solid answer I can give. I can just speculate.
