You know what the biggest pressure on this fandom will be? If the rumored direct dates don't happen and we are left here sitting and waiting. Only wanting to smash but not getting the chance. Banana peels ready to throw, Assist Trophies set up beside us to summon our favorite lanky purple plumber, Smash Balls ready to be broken, only for the announcer to yell out, "NO CONTEST!". Leaving us all dejected and clapping, clapping and hoping for the Smash in our hearts to be made a reality.
In the distance the marketing director for Ultimate chuckling to themselves, finally getting revenge for their defeat in Brawl. That day us smashers will learn that hype is TABUU

No where did I suggest we should hound everyone named Eric Bricard until we get the info we want or anything of the sort...

I will say this. It might be obvious but a Direct is basically guaranteed to be before November 16th. Since the week after that is Thanksgiving and by Black Friday it would be to late since Review copys would probably be out in the wild and will Leak.

So I guess if the leak is real, we pretty much have to get a giant blow out, which is pretty much ideal here. We won't be able to tell for sure whether the leak is real until we see the banner, so we could potentially still see all the characters without knowing they are in for sure

The banner has so many fatal flaws that constantly get ignored. And instead of focusing on what matters about the Smash content in the leak, everyone is following the irrelevant breadcrumbs the creator(s) placed.
Virtually every "insider" is agreeing its fake via sources
7+ characters completely contradict the pacing, the time left, and what Sakurai said.

I mean, ya kinda just said it yourself. Those who believe Mystic, but their characters are left out--creates quite a bit of tension (but not the good kind where you expect a cinematic climax, as you have no clue where this movie's heading).

Honestly, I think most people are being reasonable on all sides. It's just the minority that harass and spam get a disproportionate amount of attention and taint the atmosphere for everyone.

If anything, the tension here definitely has to do with the conflicting standpoints between insiders, our inability to agree on the legitimacy of the banner "leak" (and the insiders), and I guess just us being upset at some characters' chances of getting in.

We need something fast to help us, because all of these "leaks" just keep hitting us like a truck, and we can't guarantee anything, anyway.

Incineroar was the red herring, but now I suspect Nintendo has sent emails asking these partner sites to downplay this leak as much a possible.

Neither of us have any concrete proof, but there has been a distinct tonal change in many of the partner news outlets who were until recently all too happy to take in plenty of advertising revenue from discussing the validity of leaks but are immediately dismissing this one off hand.

There has been no SSBU news in months. They should be milking this leak for all it's worth, yet most are dismissing it as fake right away and keeping discussion of it relatively brief (and they've discussed worse looking leaks in the past).

Then, there's the fact that many insiders who claimed to not know much are all saying they are SURE the Grinch leak is fake.

Something has very clearly changed. If you believe it wasn't Nintendo asking influencers to downplay the leak, what other explanations can you come up with?

Why did so many people who were making money off of discussing fake leaks decide to drop this one so damn quickly?

Here's a good interpretation that hits all of your points in a reasonable way:

The Grinch leak is correct to a fault. It contains the rest of the remaining roster minus Incineroar, who is actually in the game, alongside some additions that aren't.

This causes insiders to become confused as it does have the remaining roster, but it lacks Incineroar, so some claim it's fake. Some question their sources as not only does it lack Incineroar, but it also has some additional characters that they weren't told about. All the while they're hounded by rabid fans and expected to know and tell all of the answers. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Regardless, it's fake.

Nintendo freaks out because, while it is fake it does have the remaining roster (minus Incineroar, who's a lost cause at this point). They tells news outlets not to cover it despite this, in fear that it'll gain more traction.

Essentially, whoever made this got some lucky guesses and everyone is panicking because some of them were right. It's not surprising, considering that leaks have always had the same pool of around 10 characters, with the occasional oddball pick to make you stand out (in this case, Mach Rider).

Nintendo would never ask people to downplay the leak, they'd tell people not to cover it like they (probably) already have. Sephazon can back this up because he's worked for Nintendo and can tell you that they have done this before.

This certainly makes a lot more sense than some misinformation campaign made up to discredit a point for Team Fake.

Correct. Because only Little Mac and Olimar changed panels to make room for Isabelle. Ike, Bowser and Dark Pit had no reason to be moved and thus stayed where they are.

Honestly my two Id want most are Salazzle and Krystal.
One is near impossible already and the other isn't happening unless that AT becoming playable as DLC idea ends up being a thing. lol

Honestly I think pretty much every character in the leak would be a cool addition though.

That I can get behind, sure.

Though the amount of effort that has gone into faking a leak that just so happened to get most of the characters right is difficult for me to believe for its own reasons.

I want Banjo too but I've been confident he's in since K. Rools reveal.

This whole banner debacle aside... K. Rool never leaked.. nor did any other characters in the August direct aside from Simon. There's characters leaker don't know about. Banjo is a 3rd party and I can see him being a highly kept secret.

Didn't the mystic guy say he didn't hear anything about Minecraft content in Smash? The Papagenos source said the same thing and he confirmed Banjo. That lines up and also contradicts what we've heard for months

I think the worst part of this whole thing is people who are not well-versed at all in graphic design or digital art using incorrect concepts as strong proof. It really grinds my gears.

It certainly is telling that the people who actually know about graphic design/digital art are still skeptical. Like, none of them are saying "come on, this is too complex to fake!" (though after Rayman, no one should be saying that ever).

In the case the leak is real: either Chorus Kids or Isaac.

In the case it isn't real: probably Incineroar.

If I let my Xeno bias consume me: KOS-MOS (because of that one leak that's probably fake but somehow says she's #69)
