Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

hehe wow now that he's here let's just sit back and watch people get on their knees.

Let's see if he has anything interesting to say. Like I said, though, he's probably just going to keep giving vague non-answers and keep baiting us. Which is fine if they have sources they have to protect but honestly I'd rather these insiders would just be quiet if they can't say something rather than keep dishing out irritating teasers that tell us nothing.

In a parallel universe, Disney has a hall-of-fame fighting game starring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, occasional third-party characters like Mr. Incredible. And in that parallel universe, The Grinch just got leaked. And that leak was confirmed by the Nintendo movie's previously unreleased promotional material.
Boi Mr.Incredible is a disney character

That's what I mean, that ONE song is what made him noteworthy enough to gain this following. You see all the Despacito parodies and memes right? And every other song that's a big hit for whatever reason?
I was laughing because I like the idea, not because I was mocking you (sorry if it came off that way).

Geno's following is really weird if you think about it (but in no way unbelievable); he's the epitome of an Ensemble Dark Horse. Moreso than literally any other character in Smash, I feel.
I'm guessing no new developments since this morning?
The new developments are a never-ending merry-go-round. It's fun.
Burden of proof is to prove it's real, not to prove it's fake.
Apologies in advance, but...
From Wikipedia: "The burden of proof is the obligation of a party in a trial to produce the evidence that will prove the claims they have made against the other party."

Those who claim it's real have to prove it's veracity, but those who claim it's fake have to prove their claim as well.

Somewhere out there on this big blue marble
Serebii vs Marcus Sellars vs Vergeben

Who wins?
I mean, Serebii without a doubt. Merrick only got a few things wrong and I'd argue is an actual goddamn journalist doing his job. Verge has only been 100% right about Smash, but very clearly wrong on almost everything else. And Sellars just copies whatever you DM him, in which some guy gave him the biggest ****ing pranking I've seen
Incineroar is Corrin 2.0: Absolutely everyone is pissed because of his inclusion
I'm more of a fan of the other definition but goddamn does that make a good heel

All that stuff is pretty surface level. Gamestop throws gameinformer at you, and are you really telling me going on kotaku pcgamer or whatever, or searching "funny mario videos" on youtube is too much for someone vaguely interested in games? Because if so I think we have drastically different definitions of what someone who is vaguely interested in video games is.

And again, most casuals really don't care about what characters are added. As long as they look neat and the mainstays like Mario and Pikachu are still in they're happy. Casuals don't have long in depth internal debates about whether the new characters and changed gameplay mechanics are enough to warrant a purchase of it. They buy it because it's the new Smash they can play with friends.
So, like how Mario or Pokemon never should strive to do anything except catering to speedrunners and competitive crowd, because casuals are going to get the game anyway?

Hey, leave me out of this buddy. I didn't got mad at Corrin, and I ain't going to get mad at Incineroar.

The only thing I actually be mad about all this would be myself, if the Grinch Leak is revealed to be 100% fake, then I put the blame on me, not fictional characters.

Hey, if it turns out to be real, the character trailers still have a lot to show us. We sent know what their gameplay, tagline, alts, stage, related items and assists, or actual trailer are like for any character in the leak. Sl, if it's real, there is still stuff to slightly surprise us. Not as much as the character itself, sure, but still

Ignoring what now. Please don't say that kind of stuff with a straight face. Burden of proof is not a mathematical concept and if anything you sound way less cultured than what you probably intended.
As someone who is into science, "proof" can be a difficult term--which is why I prefer the use of the word evidence, not proof. Which is why I was saying putting that semantic disagreement aside, as I switched to using the word evidence. We have evidence this person used to work for the company, may be working with a similar company. We have evidence that, if this were to be faked, it would be quite elaborate--the simplest explanation being it's real. We've already established the evidence of its validity--now it's the turn to find evidence that contradicts it--evidence that is equal to or more compelling.

What I don't like is when people create an unapproachable barrier of "proof" by shifting the burden of proof. Which is why I'm not particularly a fan of using the term myself.

I can only think of two circumstances that would lead to this being real.
  1. Eric is the leaker and the first company is just saying what they said to not break NDA. This was posted to snapchat in 2016 and for some reason only surfaces now.
  2. Eric is not the leaker, someone is impersonating him to avoid getting caught, the first company is saying what they said to not break NDA. This picture was taken recently.
  3. Eric is the leaker, the second company is working with Nintendo and Illumination.
They all sound absurd to me looking at the big picture. I think most people are on the 3rd boat right now but I don't see anything proving this.
The 3rd boat is interesting because there definitely isn’t anything proving they’re connected, but I don’t think there’s anything disproving it either. The most we know from their site is that they don’t do (Or at least, shown to do) hanging displays, but that’s really it. We have no idea whether or not they’re working with Illumination and Nintendo as I don’t think they list their partners for it, it’s just one big assumption if they do or don’t. Personally, I’m on Boat 2 if I’m assuming this is real (Right now I’m split in the middle). Considering Eric’s situation it seems hella easy to use him as a scapegoat since his information is public and it sends us on a complete rollercoaster.

Quick question Since were talking boomer and zoomer picks- so if I fall under zoomer age bracket (under 20), but my most wanteds are boomer choices (:ultsnake::ultkrool:Banjo), what does that make me? A traitor?

That's my largest problem with this leak.
The more I have to assume to make a leak work, the less I believe it.

"Guy used wildly used software which company in the same field also uses" is not exactly solid hard evidence of anything.
No, not the point.

Ill break it down for you. If fake, here's what the leaker has accomplished miraculously:

Art:
1. Successfully recreated the background of the banner to various degrees of success (this would be his one problem)

2. Moved and shifted nearly 40 characters on the banner, all to pretty logical locations and to make room for new characters (a photoshopper knows this is a lot of work)

3. Moving said characters required like 50% of them to receive additional art (Jigglypuff, Roy, Greninja and more have body parts hidden behind other characters, and moving them causes those parts to be revealed.) If fake, the leaker has drawn all the additional art needed.

4. Create 7 handcrafted renders for 7 new characters, all of which have no reputable source for inspiration (in fact, a troll tried disproving Chorus Kids render by making a fake one themselves, similar to Duck Hunt in Smash 4). After nearly 36 hours, NOBODY has found existing renders. All of them are original.

5. Of the 7, Isaac is using psyenergy people normally do not associate him with, and The Conductor is the central character in the chorus kids render, something most people wouldn't do.

6. Caused the Smashified team to claim the Banjo render as theirs, only to get hopelessly shut down and memed.

7. All 7 new renders fit in with the art style and from what we can see and people BELIEVE IT.

Background of the leaker:

1. The leak was made to look unintentional through Snapchat. Sends it to a friend or friends. Said friends leak it. Weird but okay, not posted directly on 4chan or another leak site. Basically they leaked it with the apparent plot twist of acting like they didn't want to leak it. Amazing.

2. The leaker created images with all of the above 7 points I made in the art section, only to print it out using Autocad, cardboard paper provided by his job, complete with fold out instructions of how to display it. On top of this, the leaker makes sure to take an image from really far of his good ****ing artwork, all to doop people into thinking it's a cardboard advert.

3. Said leaker plans and attaches Grinch artwork from the office to further solidify his leak. He thinks "if they find out my background, they'll surely see that job also makes these!" Amazing.

4. Said leaker scrubs out a receipt with his name or the name of his co-worker poorly! On purpose! Because he knows the internet will try and find the name! That said name will lead them to his LinkedIn page that connects him to his job. This plan was made YEARS in advance to carefully accomplish his goal of fooling people he has a legit leak at his job. Amazing.

5. Said leaker knew people would get this far, but said leaker apparently didn't think about the consequences of him getting arrested or dragging his or his colleagues name through the mud to find more work. Totally plausible.

/s

See where I'm going with this? It is 9000x harder for me to see it being fake, than to actually believe it's real. I cannot, for the life of me, logically see how someone can manage to do ALL of this, without a major inconsistency ****ing it up. And so far, it hasn't.

Is it wrong that I’m sort of aroused by this thread?
This thread created 2016 and technically a minor, so yes. I'm joking

Yeah, I can get why, but people focus on newcomers too much. There are a lot of stuff left to show.

More on the Burden of Proof: "The burden of proof is always on the person who brings a claim in a dispute."

Well considering the trainwreck LGPE is looking to be, and how good Odyssey was, yeah I think that is a good philosophy. More is lost trying to appeal solely to casuals than trying to appeal solely to invested fans. I can think of far more games that went to garbage trying for the casual audience than the hardcore audience.

If the leak does turn out to be fake, I'm prepared. I've long held the belief that Ken and Incineroar would be all we had left, so I'd just fall back on that.

But losing Mach Rider and the Chorus Kids, two characters I would love but have long since given up on, and now have renewed hope for, would really, really suck.
We will always have each other Possum <3

I expected the yelling, I didn't expect Joe. Has anything regarding the leak come up?

HI JOE MERRICK! IF YOU CAN READ THIS I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE!
From what I've seen, it's pretty much just been like it was yesterday: Team "Nah uh" VS. Team "Ya huh"

I stand on the side of "Yeah, this is most likely fake, but honestly I just wanna see what that dang green button on the main menu is, man."

Also, personal feelings about this leak aside, Incineroar is such a huge open secret among insiders and journalists at this point that I would not doubt him being leak bait. But I’m pretty sure Ridley was an open secret too, so who knows, but only a few people mentioned Ridley publicly. At this point everybody knows about Incineroar. I just cannot imagine Nintendo somehow allowing that to be widespreaded so fast.
