If this leak is real, and Shadow is a playable fighter as an echo of Sonic, then why did the designers of "the box" apparently leave a space open for Ken, but not for Shadow?

Perhaps the box art will be based off who’s announced by the next direct. If the leak is true, I’d say Ken and Banjo are next to be revealed. (Since Banjo is third party, and all non echo/Geno third party characters have always been on the box art for Smash games, always on back usually, but here the sides.

Seriously, how is it so ****ing hard for someone to believe that the man wasn't just ****ing with us? Sakurai literally laughed at K.Rool fans after the fakeout in the K.Rool trailer. It's possible for the dude to lie to us, and it's not a bad thing. It's very possible that we'll get 7 more fighters.

So the deal with the insiders is one guy (Steve) doubts this based on interactions with other insiders, and several credible people are owing to Steve's legitimacy. That's fair, but it's as much hearsay as anything else we've run into. We don't know the names of those insiders, their full track records, what they've gotten right, what they've gotten wrong, the details of what they've gotten right/wrong are, etc.

I think you could reasonably use it as a point for #TeamFake but it's a weak point because nobody is actually explaining WHY it's fake. That's my only problem.

Yeah thats my issue, I want solid evidence, not super duper secret men at nintendo trust me. I get these guys have a good track record, but honestly? I think nintendo have worked around people like verge and resetera etc who they know may get cheeky info to make sure they dont get too much, i dont think anyone could have expected some probably stressed and overworked fool to share the armband for the banter with his mates.

As i said, I'm still taking this with lax chris branded grains of kosher salt, but i dunno man... no one has really sold me on this being bunk yet...

I'll give it a few days, this **** never lasts in this day and age, with all these guys around, smash **** is in a hyperbolic time chamber, if this is bunk someone will very likely find proof

I'd say the ESRB definitely had a lot more going on for it. But as you said, people would continuously attempt to debunk it and even then people became more convinced of it's validity. The parallels are certainly there, even if the quality of the leak as a whole (including the amount of evidence we have) is limiting.

ESRB Leaks also went against everyone's expectations.

ESRB had more evidence because people would continuously attempt to debunk seemingly notable details only for those details to appear legit after digging. Box sizes, cursor positions, etc. could be found from the 2014 E3 Demo if you REALLY went digging through youtube.

There were more detailed renders, more of them, and of course - there was actual gameplay footage that eventually dropped.

I'd say ESRB was a lot stronger than this and this one has me on the fence

Ken and another fighter are being revealed early November when the box is being produced and the rest are being revealed late November in a final smash direct.

The lines, wario’s nose, and Little Shulk was all just an attempt to justify dissapointment with those additions. And that’s what happens when the roster is officially leaked.

That's the issue I have with this reasoning, no ****ing Insiders would go and ruin their sources, breaking their trust and probably getting Blacklisted. I've been thinking we were going to get someone from the Pokemon franchise in this game, so I'm definitely surprised that there's no Pokemon newcomer. Why is it that we won't be seeing one in the base game?

I'm not so much upset about this as I am seriously confused. Oh well, though. I don't doubt that DLC will be available for Ultimate at some point down the line, so maybe we'll see a Pokemon newcomer later on.

the way I see it, the only bombshell debunking this can get is if one of these """"insiders""""" does a "counter-leak" and provides an equally significant leak that disproves the grinch leak by showing something completely different.

At first I didn't believe it, but wanted it to be real because of Duck Hunt actually.

Not sure if you saw my edit but again, that only works if we assume that the 4chan post was based on the video and not the other way around.

True, but the possibility of it all being staged, down to including things like never seen Grinch renders, and leads back to a real person hired by Bamco, is really really damn slim. The Grinch stuff especially is what adds a lot of weight to it. There's so many minor details put in there, that's it's not the sort of thing a fake leaker would even think of. Most would be content with just having the blurry, and hell, would probably share the video to prove it's legit, without showing any of the context surrounding it.. Fake leakers don't put that much thought into creating such elaborate leaks. Like, even the most convincing of fake leaks focused on seeming legit by providing really clear convincing evidence, not be leaving tracks for people to POSSIBLY follow that verify an otherwise very shoddy leak.

If this was planned to be fake, someone would have got for showing a video of the roster screen on a modded game or something, not something this elaborate with so many irrelevant details that add more validity by coincidence. Like, just think of how much planning would have to take place to cover EVERY angle perfectly so that there are no holes.

Like, it's been a whole day, and not a single hole has been poked in the leak. In fact, people have tried the obvious approach, attacking the quality of the source image (which is again why a faker would have gone for a convincing roster shot or something), or trying to refute it by comparing it to (shoddy) "insider" info.

Do you see what I mean?

What it would take to fake this, requires some next level 4D chess tier thinking due to how clever and manipulative it is in order to validate itself. And despite such tight planning, at least ONE hole would have cropped up by now.
