Aww, I missed the "how much do you like characters by series" game. Not by too much, hopefully...

Now this is liking them as characters, not how much I play them in Smash...though those are pretty well the same for a casual like me.

Isabelle still one of the first tags Tumblr suggests when you search for Super Smash Bros. Not a universal measure, but I suspect that she didn't flew under the radar of majority of the casual fandom.

Other than that, it's just this game's direction. While there are a lot of stuff for casual fans, general direction is heavily catered towards Smash fandom, not general Nintendo audience who might find Smash cool.

A lot of people heavily underestimated Isabelle's popularity here imo. When she was revealed a lot of people were surprisingly bitter because she wasn't too popular with the core fans despite core fans getting pandered the **** out of. Casual fans would eat Isabelle up considering Animal Crossing is a better selling franchise

Ever since my sassy little boy was murdered we've all become more angry with each other.

I suspect it's to do with the double-hit of the 2 weeks wait for a Direct, the death of one of the only plausible leaks, and 103 stages like all in one night.

It’s so interesting to me that so many people swear they’re hyped for Smash and come onto Smashboards, but then decide to repeatedly not talk about Smash in this thread.

'Cos it's probably the only thread most people go in, and people probably don't wanna take their stuff to other threads or join a discord or private group thread or something cause effort.

Or cause of the very slow drip that is Nintendo's handling of this game's hype material.

Either way I feel like 20% of the posts in here point out that people are talking about the wrong thing. Haha

I'm not actually angry about Let's Go, just dissapointed. That said, I really think the pessimism surrounding 2019 is really unfair. Let's at least wait until we get some info on that game before we start throwing a fit over it, alright?

Anyway, regarding Smash Bros, what mii costumes do you hope to see this time? I'm personally really hoping for a Shovel Knight costume for Mii Swordfighter now that it's a real possibility.

If Klonoa doesn't get in here, a costume based on him would be fun.

I wonder what pens they use for this, it's really good.

You guys know that the reason why people end up going off topic is because when we do talk about Smash Ultimate it’s always about the same 3-5 characters, and topics in general.

I get that this is a Smash Ultimate thread, but there’s a reason why not many people come here often anymore. It gets extremely stale when we go back to talking about Ken, Geno, Incineroar, 3-5 characters left, when the direct will come, Vergeben, all for the thousandth time. We should be at least a bit more open with our discussions and talk about something related to Smash Ultimate that isn’t those things, it makes it sound that we’re insistent on X happening because we keep talking about them.

And yes, I was here during late September-early October, this thread hit a low during that time.

I still believe in two characters only. I think the next Direct will focus more on modes. They didn't talk at all about single player and online, which makes me giddy that they are worth an entire Direct for themselves.

Super Smash Bros. Special sounds terrible, I feel bad for Japan.

Japan just titles things differently than we do. The game that Richter debuted in was called Castlevania: Rondo of Blood here in the US, but in Japan, the original title is Demon Castle Dracula X: Reincarnation of Blood. Just rolls right off the tongue.

I think this can also sometimes be a positive, forgive the anecdote but hear me out.

I stopped keeping up with smash 4 before release pretty late, I didn’t know Shulk was in, nor B.jr, not even Duck Hunt

So when I bought Smash 3DS, and I saw all these characters that I didn’t even know were in the game, it really was a magical experience. I specifically remember spectating an online game, seeing a Koopaling and thinking “wait what?” and it really was exciting.

Nobody is going to buy smash for Isabelle, or not buy it if it doesn’t have her, so maybe that joyful surprise means that ignorance really is bliss in this case.

Just my 2 cents though.

While that does sound fun, it's not gunna happen this time. Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt we're revealed officially post 3DS launch. Shulk was also revealed in such an alienating way that I doubt his inclusion got anywhere near the casual crowd (as if it would matter).

However I've seen youtube, Facebook, Tumblr, etc posts for every Smash character reveal so far. Mostly Isabelle but definitely all. Now do I have friends who like videogames, follow video game content etc sure. But so do casuals.

It's not like people who don't play videogames are the target for Smash marketing. So trust me, even casual players who may not even buy the game but isntead just play it at a friend's house are up to date on the newcomers (they might just not care about all of them).

I honestly think 2 characters could be hype to end on as long as they choose certain ones over others. With how much we've heard about Kencineroar however, there's gonna be a lot of salt if they're the last two.

I'd have to agree on your point about the modes. Gives me hope that For Glory will be something more complex than just "hey we record your wins and losses".
