Dark Samus is what I would qualify as "pretty much Samus". That is, taken as a whole, as they're portrayed in Smash, they're nearly identical in design and moves. Paper Mario would actually be different, being a unique character with different moves. That being said, my general rule of thumb is "If they share a name, they're duplicates", and so I'd rather have someone new new for a unique character if given the choice.

Lucina also hid her identity with Marth's name for awhile and also fights nothing like Marth, yet her and Dark Samus are echoes.

I heavily doubt Paper Mario would be an echo, but I'm just sayin'.

Honestly I don't care if 2 characters are the same person/entity or if they share the same look/name, as long as they have a completely different moveset I'm OK.
That's why I'm OK with ZSS, and I would be OK with a Warioland Wario, and especially Ganon (who shares nothing with Ganondorf aside of darkness and a part of the name).

EDIT: plus by taking that rule literally, Roy Koopa and Roy are duplicates

If Geno gets in, Paper Mario would likely be redundant since both would likely rely on timing button presses (since Mario RPG and Paper Mario both have it as a mechanic), so I'd be iffy on the matter... unless they use a partner gimmick for the latter instead, I guess.

If he doesn't, I sincerly think he could be a very unique character so people won't really complain too much about getting a third Mario.

I mean, that's assuming either of the characters even get a gimmick like that.

Personally, I don't see why the two can't coexist. Paper Mario has five different games to pull material from, so even if the timed button presses is actually what Sakurai is thinking of (which I don't think is the case, since all three Mario RPG series use this) there's still plenty of material to use. Heck, I'm actually rooting for a non-gimmicky Paper Mario who fights with moves from all of his games, such as the partners, Pixels, Paint Hammer, and Things.

I feel like she would have been seriously considered if Game and Wario hadn't been hot garbage. Wario Ware Gold was two years too late because, while not the best in the series, it's gotten the series back to its roots. Ashley was in my top 10 (along with Waluigi and Takamaru so triple RIP there) but I think she'll be back in the running for future games.

Still... No surprise it wasn't Smash related, but it's nearing due time now for at least a character trailer.

My fear is that people start reacting in the same way as Mario Kart players did with the Mario and Peach characters in 8.

If it was for me, i would add every Link, Mario, Samus armour and Pikachu hat as either costumes or full fighters.

Nah, I wanna be able to buy some other things too. I've been meaning to build my own PC eventually. And I could go for some more PC games as well. And then there's some Premium services I want to be able to purchase, like Discord Nitro and Spotify. Having money is nice.

A "third mario" is hardly an issue

Honestly in most cases a 3rd or fourth whomever isn't a problem when almost an entire other franchise is basically one character remixed.

Though some comparisons are a little ignorant

Mimikyu for example is in no way like Pikachu

Paper Mario would be more like G&W than Mario

Banjo and Kazooie aren't Duck Hunt ( That one is the worst )

They can't because Sakurai has already stated that Echoes have virtual 1:1 body types with their counterparts. Paper Mario lacks legs and a neck for starters, nevermind the whole 2D aspect is a key characterization of the character himself.

Making Paper Mario work as an Echo would be more of a challenge than making him unique. Height, weight, and body structure realistically shouldn't be anywhere close to Mario's, and Paper Mario using Fludd and Super Cape make absolutely no sense (Granted, Daisy never used turnips, but still).

Anyone who genuinely believes Paper Mario would be an Echo likely stopped doing their research on the character the second they saw "Mario" in the name.

Well he’s already done a video of them playing Smash during E3 season, so I expect him to do more for the people. Also...we don’t need New Day vs Elite in Smash (I’ve seen how both Woods and Omega play...and it was eh)...just Kofi vs everyone
