Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Not limiting myself to 2014, who would be a bit awkward. Instead going with an older Toho style Godzilla.

Jab Combo: Two claw swipes and a bite.
Side Tilt: A simple kick
Up Tilt: An upwards tail swipe.
Down Tilt: Low angle claw swipes
Forward Smash: A tail slam
Up Smash: A leap upward to attack with the scutes on his back (similar to Bowser's Up Smash).
Down Smash: A quake by a stomp (similar to Charizard's Down Smash).
Dash Attack: A rushing headbutt

Neutral Aerial: A spin to attack with his tail like his Air Attack in Destroy All Monsters Melee.
Forward Aerial: A double hammerfist.
Up Aerial: An upwards bite.
Back Aerial: A thrust with the scutes on his back (similar to Bowser's older Back Air).
Down Aerial: That stomping Down Aerial characters tend to have.

Pummel: Bites the opponent while clenching them.
Forward Throw: Punts the opponent like a football/soccer ball.
Up Throw: Tosses the opponent up and fires an Atomic Breath that pushes them upward.
Back Throw: Judo throws the opponent (a common technique in Godzilla films)
Down Throw: tosses the opponent to the ground and body slams them.

Neutral Special: Atomic Breath: Tap for a whispy flame, hold for a charged blast. Can be aimed.
Side Special: Tail Slide: Slides on his tail to try to connect with a flying dropkick like in Godzilla vs. Megalon.
Up Special: Atomic Flight (a.k.a. "Something You Don't See Everyday"): Turns around and flies upward by aiming a stream of Atomic Breath at the ground like in Godzilla vs. Hedorah.
Down Special: Nuclear Pulse: A pause followed by a burst of energy from Godzilla to push enemies away.
Final Smash: Burning Godzilla: Temporarily becomes Burning Godzilla for a supercharged blast of Atomic Breath.
Alternatively, just the same attack, but it's called "Spiral Ray" and doesn't feature Burning Godzilla. With Burning Godzilla instead being an alt.


Not refined, but I have thought of moveset ideas for the Big G in the past. :V

Ok, no. Just because you're reminded of a hate group in the title of a support campaign for a cartoon crocodile gives you no right to connect the two.

I have never hidden the fact that I'm a person of color from anyone on here or on the K. Rool discord and have never had a hint of racism directed at me.

So just be aware that as you throw jabs you have absolutely no ground to stand on.

I've been using a countdown widget to check when Smash Ultimate is coming out from time to time, started doing it since E3.

This is how the countdown looks now. We're getting there, boys. Time is gonna fly like crazy.

I think all three stages are interesting in their own rights...

Tortimer Island is basically in the same situation as Pirate Ship. It's not really obvious how the water will play out; a permanent water stage has never been an option in a non-handheld Smash game before without invoking other serious problems (Pirate Ship in Brawl/4 was so hazardous...). I can easily see them basically being like walk-offs wherein weaker players have an incentive to camp the water and go for swingy match outcomes even if they're not favorable to the camper, and the more I think about them, the more I'm not super optimistic, but I definitely am not so pessimistic as to write off these stages on something like day -50 without really playing on them a bit and fleshing out how they really play.

Gamer without the mom is just hard loops randomly which would disqualify it, but most of its lay-outs don't have that problem so a static lay-out probably saves the stage. I think it's pretty straightforward.

Mario Maker is perhaps the most fascinating. If you really dive into everything the stage can do, it very often chooses bad lay-outs in a variety of ways, but probably a good 25% of the stages it makes are actually good stages that would deserve to be legal on their own (number made up; don't nitpick it please since no I haven't actually done serious Mario Maker documentation). Obviously a stage that is usually bad is a stage that can't be legal, but if hazards off gives it one static lay-out, it seems very likely it will be a cherry picked good one which could easily make Mario Maker a new legal stage in the most literal of senses as it will quite likely be some stage configuration we've never seen before. Interest in this stage is actually the main reason I want information about Tortimer Island and thus random stages in general; I'm super intrigued by the possibilities that could be hidden from us within this stage, but we need a static lay-out to start for this possibility to even have a chance to go anywhere.

I think I've officially lost patience with this whole community at this rate.

I am not someone to hold grudges, many would had been blocked a long time ago for the countless detracting the likes of Takamaru and Daisy.

But that patience is officially gone since all the box theory worship. Don't be shocked when you become a part of my ever growing block list. The gloves are off.

I'm not really sure where you're getting that stuff about the box theory. We're all more worried about whether or not we'll actually get an announcement this week or month than that right now. And safe to say a lot of us here want the box theory to end up like the music theory...

That is, unless the "box theory" you're speaking of is Nintendo Labo getting into smash. Which has my support.
