Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Also are those mouth breathers really hating on USUM?

USUM was a fun game.
Bit rude.

USUM was, kind of, a fun game if you hadn't played SuMo, however it rehashed the previous games more than most sequel versions typically would. It also, for one of the first times, rewrote certain story beats and made it overall worse which is just insane.

If you hadn't played SuMo USUM was a fine enough game, but if you had a choice between the two SuMo is by far the superior version.

I really don't see how people see Salazzle as sexy.
It's literally the harem Pokemon.

Salazzle is not sexy you disgusting freaks.

Haters and freaks everywhere. It really is Halloween.

Every Pokemon game ever has been easy.
I can confirm this.
What makes Pokemon extremely hard is when you want a shiny starter. Your patience is tested to the extreme.

They publish the game, but Shonen Jump and whoever has the rights to the anime technically 'own' it last I remember. It's why Shock Master took two entire years to be banned, because Shonen Jump 'owned' the rights to the card.
I don't think Firewall would get hit anyway, I think it'd stay limited honestly. Also surprised that they freed Stratos in the recent list. I guess they're really trying to make Neos played even though it's beyond saving.

For sure and that makes me insanely happy. One of the most damaging things t the Pokemon franchise has been it becoming an annual thing.
I think practically the reason why I feel Pokemon Gen 8 will be the Switch's biggest game to come out is that we're not in retreaded territory. We have a mainline gen game on a home console for the first time EVER, so it makes sense why they would be taking 3 1/2 years developing Gen 8 just because of the almost limitless possibilities with x20 more powerful hardware than a bottlenecking, restricted handheld device. Combine that with how Let's Go is shaping up to be, and the Switch also being portable, we could see this making a bigger splash than Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey combined.

The issue with Firewall is just how many loops it causes because of its infinite recursion.

In Japan, they banned every single "Tribute a monster to burn" card except for Catapult Turtle due to it getting errata'd to be once per turn.

Pokémon Crystal Clear is a great ROM hack that shows how an open world Pokémon game could work. While not perfect, it proves that its a very plausible concept.

Only reason it wasn't a pushover was cause it was borked.

Other than that it was fairly easy.

That's the thing folks.

Every Pokemon game ever has been easy.
Platinum is pretty rough at times.

BW and BW2 too.

I mean, any RPG is easy if you just grind.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: if USUM was the original release of Sun and Moon, I think we'd all love it.

But it came on the heels of vanilla Sun and Moon and did very little different. For those of us who played Sun and Moon, Ultra was a steaming pile of disappointment. That's why people hate it. In a vaccuum it's a pretty good Pokemon game, but in context of Sun and Moon, it's glorified DLC. I legit feel robbed that I paid $40 for that ****.

Oh sorry if mouth breathers is an insult, I got that from a show.

Dang it 1980's!

Also USUM is just a better version of SM.

I like how Bravely default makes grinding super easy by letting you change the difficulty without punishment, increase the battle speed and increase the battle rate.

I don't even run Firewall in my decks. I run Borreload
I checked my older deck list and found my old pure Cyberdark deck again. I wonder if it's still any decent.

If Pokemon Gen 8 doesn't have a PokeWalker with Cole and Dylan Sprouse advertising it, THAT'S GONNA BE A NO FROM ME, CHIEF.

But like, did it really do anything differently than Platinum or Emerald or the like? Last I checked, people love those.

I just run YGOPRO for most of these decks I learned long ago that I should not invest all my money into card games because holy **** $300 is a way to realize you have some sort of a problem.

I only played YuGiOh for a little bit and I used Thousand Eyes Restrict in combination with some other card that forced opponents to discard cards.

Later found out both those cards are banned competitively. Since it was nearly unbeatable in school lunch I can see why

The only thing USUM did differently from Platinum and Emerald is that out came out right after Sun and Moon, as opposed to a few years after.
Some people got a little burned out on Alola.

I wonder if Z-moves are gonna be a thing from now on like Mega Evolution is.

Honestly, not a fan of them. They really felt copy-pasted. I'd rather a cool transformation that changes a character radically than a supermove that's copy-pasted across the entire cast.

Of course, I'm a bigger fan of just giving older pokemon new evolutions, but gen 4 seems to be the last gen gamefreak wants to do that.
I actually really like Z-Moves.

They made most Pokemon a lot better when battling, and Z-Moves are fun. It is so satisfying when you are able to knock out a more bulky Pokemon in competitive battling. I think Z-Moves impacted the Pokemon meta in a good way.

Z-Moves are also fun to watch.

Not only that, but Status Z-Moves are very interesting as well. It can lead to wack stuff. Like Z-Celebrate or Z-Happy Hour.

Humorously, the power ceiling has hit a point where both those cards are legal again, Thousand Eyes being at 3 copies and no one runs it(Because Metamorphosis is banned).

Oh come on, we'd all know the Paul brothers would be the ones doing the 10 year anniversary of this commercial. :4ness:
In the back, Shane Dawson is completely flabbergasted by every encounter with a Pokemon, inadvertently making an 8-part docu-series.

There's a difference between Emerald/Platinum which are third versions (thus not expected to have tons different) and ultra, which were marketed as games with more unique content...and didn't deliver on that. A more fair comparison is between Black/White and Black/White 2. People were expecting Ultra to be like Black/White 2 and not just like Emerald, and they should have been...but were not.

People love Emerald and Platinum because of what they fixed from the original versions and the extra content those games provided. They never promised to be tons different from the games they were built off of. Ultra did give some extra content (Ultra space, ultra necrozma etc.) but that's pretty much it. All the advertising for the game made it out to be a lot different than Sun and Moon but people knew it was bs and was just going to be largely the same. Turns out we were right on that.

USM doesn't fix the issue of having unskippable cutscenes, which was my numero uno gripe with the game.

Like ****, I don't give a rat's ass about how much Hau loves his goddamned MALASADAS.

On the topic of Firewall Dragon, he’s just like that jerk in high school where everyone around him seems to get in trouble for his mischief while he gets off scot-free.

Legendary Hero Decks also contain a Destiny HERO deck. That and tons of Neos stuff makes it a good time to unban. How else can you easily search Malicious, etc.?

Sun and Moon had a better plot than Black and White.

If only Gen 7 came out when Gen 6 did.

I actually got Pokemon X and Y the day before I flew out to hawaii and played it though out the airplane ride and beat it by the time I got back a week later.

Having a pokemon game in a similar vein to BoTW where you still have a story to go through and a definite progression to do is what I like. BoTW still had a plot path but it didn't matter which order you did the legendary beasts in. I think when we're all saying "open world pokemon" we don't necessarily mean I can go catch mewtwo at the start of the game. We're wanting a Xenoblade like world to explore and the freedom to tackle the story in whatever order we wish to.
Indeed, all I care about is having *some* choices and not have my hand held throughout the entire game to the point it's playing itself. I feel like the way to make a game better for casuals and veterans alike comes down to more choices, not less, which the latter unfortunately seems to be the trend. That being said, there are some rumors that give me hope.

Also, missed a big "leak" where someone did the thing every 4chan leaker does, predict the next blog post now that we have fewer left, and with many of these posts a day, ones bound to be right. Is that the gist?
