Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Why would there be an announcment at a tournament?....

Are people that desperate at this point?

I don’t know what fans are worse, the ones who make conspiracy theories towards newcomers or the ones who expect a reveal in literally any video game related event or showcase.
That would NEVER happen.

Remember when it didn't happen at EVO 2018? Those people who believed it would were idiots.

Can we stop with the "huehue you stupid people expecting an announcement at a Smash tournament"? Look we get it, nothing happened. But that doesn't give anybody an excuse to place themselves on a pedestal and look down on people who had faith because of the circumstances lining up.
It's funny cause it happens every time.
The "hurrdurr guess y'all are wrong" thing, I mean.

It's significantly more annoying than the people who harped on and on about expecting anything haha

Don't you get it?
I need to feel intellectually superior to other people on an internet message board!

Wii Fit is really the only series already in the game that needs more representation.

He WILL be playable.

I mean this is already a game where Isabelle can beat up Solid Snake on Green Hill Zone with the help of Pong, I don't see why a Wii Balance Board can't get in on the fun as well.

I wasn’t joking or being superior.

I’m just annoyed that people keep setting themselves up for disappointment for literally any Nintendo (and Minecon) event to reveal something.

When actual Smash info or atleast a Nintendo Direct is stated to be announced, that’s when you get hyped,

That wasn't the issue I took with your post.

My issue was your false implication that there would not be any Smash announcement at any tournament.

Which is, as we know, true.

Nothing more.

Yikes. Is it just me or does this thread seem...hostile today? It just seems like everyone's in a bad mood lately.

Super Paper Mario was ahead of it's time.
They could've made a sequel to this game, or like a hybrid of Thousand-Year Door and SPM, and I wouldn't even mind at all. Where did it go wrong.

Now that Nintendo's head is finally out of their ass, maybe we can get any semblance of Paper Mario making a return. If Super Mario Party and Mario Tennis Aces are a return to form, then there has to be SOMETHING for Paper Mario.

Who said Nintendo pulled their head out?

I expect no return, ever, to the classic 64/TTYD formula.

The Switch era really seems like Nintendo finally listening to the fans.
If Pokemon and Paper Mario follow the trend i'll probably cry tears of joy.

So assuming no reveal happens this week. I expect we'll likely get it in Late October especially if it goes by the pattern for Smash Directs.

I don't know, I'd say for me listening to a bunch of people being unrealistically optimistic in the face of all reason is more annoying. "Haha, you were wrong" is only really that annoying when it either goes on for way too long (like constantly for more than a day) or is pretty uncalled for ("You made a very well-informed guess that by all measures seemed likely to come true and were ultimately wrong? You're so dumb!").

I regret selling my Wii and other Nintendo consoles. Never the less what better way then to recreate that childhood again with the Switch and games like Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Kirby: Star Allies, Super Mario Party, etc. as well as this game. I'm glad I've gotten back into Nintendo. :)

It's a mistake I'll never make again.

At this point my maximum expectations are Ken, Shadow, Incineroar, *insert your Square character here*, and 1 more character we won't be able to pin down until the reveal, maybe someone we've been expecting, maybe not. That's as optimistic as I can get right now, any more would push my personal interpretation of 'don't expect too many new fighters.' I'm honestly so dead-set on that expectation that all I really care about now is Spirits, how All-Star works (if it's even here), and whatever minigames and side modes we're getting.

I just want to get my grubby hands on Ultimate already, I can only bash my head against Hollow Knight's Godmaster and Enter the Gungeon for so long. Smash Directs are like mini-beacons of hope along the way, I could settle for waiting two more weeks if I at least knew for sure there'd be something then.

What's up with Pokemon?
Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, instead of advancing the series in a meaningful way, take everything back to square one with some Mega evolutions and Pokemon Go mechanics sprinkled in. Totally ignoring the fans who've been around the longest in an attempt to get that sweet, sweet Pokemon Go money.

Hey. We expected the old formula of Mario Party to never return. Or Ridley never coming Smash.
I'd say the only time they've haven't listened is with the Online Service. Other than that, this practically is the era where the one time Nintendo listens. Don't lose out hope.

Everyone's on edge because of the news drought and the generally negative leak atmosphere. With a torrent of fake leaks and the only "legit" sounding leaks being incredibly boring, I think we're all just hoping that the legit leaks/box theory/Kencineroar's the only two remaining characters wind up being false.

Honestly I'd expect things to be worse than they are but we're all maintaining somewhat decent composure for a site this large.

It's gone the route of super casualization in an attempt to normie bate and get rid of the hardcore fanbase

Ohhh, you guys are talking about Let's Go aren't you? Well, I don't blame you for having that view. It does look like a low effort Pokemon game that didn't really need to exist. Isn't that game a spinoff thought?

Paper Mario TTYD is my favorite game ever made, so I'm just kind of refusing to even entertain the concept of a return to the classic formula.
It's a dream.

Perhaps, but if Sakurai's taught us anything it's that dreams come true.
Never give up hope, it's always darkest before the dawn, there's a rainbow around every corner, [insert inspirational quote here].
