That's why he's nerfing Bayonetta rather then cutting her. This argument reminds me too much of the people who though Meta Knight would be cut from Smash 4 because of Brawl.

I think the costume is a really bad sign for her, but the controversy isn't.

Not like the nerfs are really doing much to visually affect her (she still got that unstoppable and queen of strong style to her hits)

I don't see Jeanne getting in because a) Bayonetta still has her Jeanne skin and b) given all the controversy surrounding her, the last thing anyone wants is another Bayonetta and I'm fairly certain Sakurai knows this.

Just make her an alt if she were to be in the game as a playable character

I recall the Blood Hawk being there since Melee, but it was censored in all international releases until 4.

I figure that people won't notice Hell Hawk since F-Zero doesn't get games anymore.

I feel like Sakurai had a character cap in mind in Brawl--and now we're at around 70 characters. While adding characters is multiplication--there may be enough time throughout Ultimate's life where they get so close they may try. Mad man, and all that.

If you want mad man thinking, Prof Fandango thought of a hypothetical Smash 150 (with "DLC").

Of course, many of those choices are a bit on the odd side, and he got BTFOed on some (like Waluigi and Bomberman), while not seeing recent announcements coming.

That said, reaching at least 100 uniques is definitely possible, if barely. With the Echoes being tossed in to facilitate development, technically having more than 100 characters can be done, no matter what it takes. Of course, it would take months of development time for each set of characters per season, so there can be adequate room for announcements.

But it's close enough to say they look similar, which is why I think the whole alt colors=deconfirmed isn't an end all be all.

Not to mention if they cared that much about similar looking different characters then Yoshi wouldn't have two near identical looking alts.

The costume outright deconfirms her I'd say. If they removed Samus' Dark Samus costume and even Ike's Chrom costume that didn't look much like him, then there's little hope for Jeanne in that regard.

I've been waiting for a Boshi alt for Yoshi since I was foolish enough to believe they could do it on the N64... even if Geno gets in I don't see it happening though... maybe he will get a trophy at least.. that way I can finally get a figure made on Shapeways and have my much coveted Boshi figure...

It would be so heavy through its added defense, that not only can it not move by itself, but it couldn't be launched off the stage. The true defensive wall we've been lacking in Smash.

In the background of the 8/8 direct, while Sakurai was on screen, were two chairs: one yellow, one purple.

They were theorized to hint at different characters, including Waluigi, Rayman, etc.

When paired with the couch, people theorized them to mean Skull Kid, including me because I really want Skull Kid and the E3 background seemed to hint at K. Rool.

I mean, I get that ... Hell my favourite Nintendo series outside of Pokémon is F-Zero. Just imagine how I've felt ... Poor F-Zero.
but, yeah, this is Smash, not a revival of a franchise.

Rhythm Heaven is atleast not dead, it's actually quite active.
Golden Sun however, even more bloody recent than F-Zero (Crazy, right?)

However, Captain Falcon being in Smash and Isaac is not, that way I do get it.
Smash do imortilize the character, and help people shed light to franchises. (Biggest reason I want Lip, to light Panel De Pon games)

But, I don't see why the franchises close to death would be upset by Bayo, other than what I've covered over.
