So... Verge is backing up someone who says Steve and a Grandblue character are joining Smash? Or is there something I’m missing here?

Ummmmmm... I’m skeptical. I guess Steve makes sense, however there are some things that make me wary about his (her?) chances. But Grandblue? That has little to no relationship to Nintendo whatsoever and is mediocre at best here. I rrrreeeeeeaaaaalllllllyyyy doubt a Grandblue character is coming to Smash. I didn’t even know what Grandblue was until now.

He wasn't backing up Steve, he just said that the leaker is a real leaker, not even in regards to smash.

The game is 'big' in Japan, probably in the top 3-5 mobile games.

That's...Underwhelming, even less interesting than Corrin. At this point I think they pretty much showed characters that people wanted.

I'm going to be honest, going into this smash, the only must-have that I wanted to see was Ridley. Been rooting for him since Melee. I got super hyped when K. Rool was announced. If you asked me to pick two characters, those would probably be the two I most wanted (outside of Wolf returning). That being said, if they added Shadow or Tails, I would be completely satisfied. Whether box theory is true or not, it has significantly dampened my hope for one of those to show up. Mostly Shadow, because I think he would be incredibly easy to implement. Hopefully there will be an abundance of DLC that will bring some of our characters we want in smash, even if they are echoes.

I love the inklings and really want Geno, and am cool with pretty much all of the newcomers so far, but I also very much like K. Rool. So I see your posts mentioning that you don't care so much for him and feel a kind of dissonance for a second haha.

If i'm being completely honest I didn't care about K Rool at all before, but i've kinda warmed up to him after seeing him in Smash?

Yes, I would say Echoes do not count.
Ridley was announced and we have got a Metroid Remix. Dark Samus was announced but we have got no Metorid remix. I think this is why Deep of Brinstar remix was used as background music for the announcement of Dark Samus. Ridley had his Ridley Themesong, but it was not published on the website yet.
Daisy was announced during the E3 presentation, but the new Mario Remix was published three weeks ago.

Even though I agree that Echoes probably aren't included in the Music Theory, there's one thing I'd like to remind everyone.

Dark Samus never needed a Metroid remix to begin with. If every franchise is only getting a single track, then it would make a lot more sense to tie in the Metroid remix with Ridley, the unique character, than it would with Dark Samus, an Echo. Besides, even if Dark Samus was somehow unique, Ridley would still likely end up getting the remix, as his inclusion would be a much bigger deal to the fanbase than the former.

That being said, Daisy and the Mario series has been really weird. If Daisy truly is the only Mario newcomer we'll end up getting, then why not post the Mario remix around E3 instead of holding it off until a random day in September?

Yeah, her being in the game would actually sort of make sense, considering Nintendo has monetary stake in Cygames. What better way to advertise a new Granblue game by getting one of its characters in Smash lol.

Ugh I'm so excited for that game. Love Platinum games, but don't really like gacha. So its a good way to experience the world of Granblue without playing Gacha. Hope to see Lancelot and Sandphalon!

That one actually has a basis in the DK games though, with the DK barrels or DK's necktie. I just find it odd that they made Cloud have a generic FF icon when everything, both in-game and out, only makes reference to Final Fantasy VII. Licensing's fun. Street Fighter's a little more excusable, sense the series doesn't really have a lot of things that work as an icon, but the punch button icon could've worked. Still not terrible though.

And then we have Snake, whose icon got changed likely because of copyright and not wanting to acknowledge Kojima or something

The FF symbol is probably the most universal thing across ALL Final Fantasy games and I'm sure Sakurai being as creative as he is probably wanted to draw from ALL of Final Fantasy but licensing deals and what not kept that from happening. He probably still went with it because he thought, maybe I can do more with the series in the future. That's why I figure it's not the FFVII Meteor but I could very well be wrong.

On SF, yeah you hit the nail on the head. There's not really a good symbol to represent the series and the SF symbol is about as close as you can get. Even then, I like the symbol because it uses the exact font used in Street Fighter IV. Which is probably my favorite of the series.

On Metal Gear Solid. Yep, that's probably exactly why. Though, to be fair, the ! is iconic to that franchise and using the FOX Logo was probably more of a shout out to Kojima than anything else in the game. I think it's a good change. I don't think the FOX Logo was ever as Iconic as the !.

Would it have to? The point is that Granblue Fantasy is a pretty huge mobile game, and that this Katalina is an important character in it, who's now got her own title.

I don't think a character from that game is making it in, nor would I want it to, as I have zero attachment to the series. but it's not an impossibility.

honestly expect Cygames to become a huge well known company in the future regardless of obscurity in the west right now. Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link and Project Awakening look incredible thanks too all the money they made out of gacha games and now there hiring high pedigree devs to make console games.

I think you're confusing him with Nobuo Uematsu, who has done a lot of Square music and the theme for Brawl.

I think Sakurai has gotten more music since the direct, FF most likely.

When people compare Cloud to like, anyone else I groan a little bit. Cloud is a huge character. He's a BIG ****in deal. And that's the main reason he got in, he's insanely popular, and he WAS also on a Nintendo console before.

Saying so and so from this obscure game that isn't synonymous with Nintendo can get in because Cloud got in is just wrong. Cloud is on another level entirely. He's, dare I say, more iconic than any RPG protagonist that's ever been or will be.
