Steve would definitely be this game's scapegoat, like R.O.B. and Dark Pit before him, I could even see him getting even more hate than those given how lofty a lot of people's expectations are atm, not to mention he's direct competition for Banjo in a sense. I'm not a fan myself as Minecraft never clicked for me, so I'll likely never care for him, but at the same time I won't actively hate him as long as he's implemented well (and I trust the Smash team's ability to make him fit in).

I wasn't big on forums during Brawl, I actually had no idea people hated ROB. He was one of my favorite characters!

Nintendo is partnering with Cygames to produce their own game right now. Dragalia Lost.
The """leaker""" suggests that talks are still in place so this isn't a "roster was decided in 2015" thing. Why would Nintendo do all that work to promote a game on their opponent's system when they have their own game by this company they would be promoting instead?

Like I said, I don't think they would. It was more the point that Gran Blue in and of itself is popular. I'm with you that it wouldn't make a ton of sense, but I can see that the mobile game is popular, regardless of the console game on other systems. Though another reason why I doubt it is that I haven't seen a single person mention the series when it comes to Smash or whatever.

When people compare Cloud to like, anyone else I groan a little bit. Cloud is a huge character. He's a BIG ****in deal. And that's the main reason he got in, he's insanely popular, and he WAS also on a Nintendo console before.

Saying so and so from this obscure game that isn't synonymous with Nintendo can get in because Cloud got in is just wrong. Cloud is on another level entirely. He's, dare I say, more iconic than any RPG protagonist that's ever been or will be.

This is also true. Cloud's THE RPG guy people know. He got in on his own merit.

What I mean is a pick akin to Corrin, where the west basically has a unanimous "Who dat?"



Like, I know it's been said before, but in Japan, Ridley's nickname is apparently "Captain America" due to how they view him as an "American" pick.

But at this rate, those don't exist anymore. Practically every single Japanese poll has "global picks" - you wanna see Sora? He's on there. Crash Bandicoot? On there as well. Either way, I just don't see Steve and some Granblue character making it in the first place, and we're going to get our 3 characters Verge said.

I just watching the Music page from offical webpage and the fascinating is that every series got 1 music sample until this day. Each new character reveal after E3 was attached with a music sample in the same or next week.

Ridley was announced, on homepage was the Brinstar Depths remix introduced with new webpage, followed by Spaltoon remix, because already announced
King K Rool and Castlevania was announced, in two wednesday on it a remix for Castlevania and Donkey Kong was revealed
Melinda was announced last week, this week we have got a sample of a remix for Animal Crossing

Does this mean we will do not get new F-Zero and Mario Fighter?

That doesn't seem to apply to echo fighters, Dark Samus was shown after Metroid music was uploaded.

Okay, first off, we've had PLENTY of "Japan Picks" in this game already. King K. Rool, Chrom and Isabelle are for sure three of them, us Americans aren't getting showered with anything. And I can assure you that Japanese fans would rather have characters that we also root for than a character from Granblue Fantasy, even if it's a big franchise at the moment.

On SF, yeah you hit the nail on the head. There's not really a good symbol to represent the series and the SF symbol is about as close as you can get. Even then, I like the symbol because it uses the exact font used in Street Fighter IV. Which is probably my favorite of the series.

On Metal Gear Solid. Yep, that's probably exactly why. Though, to be fair, the ! is iconic to that franchise and using the FOX Logo was probably more of a shout out to Kojima than anything else in the game. I think it's a good change. I don't think the FOX Logo was ever as Iconic as the !.

I definitely like the ! more than the FOX Logo for that exact reason. Doesn't the Street Fighter symbol use Street Fighter II's font though?

Probably not, especially since Granblue isn't owned by Nintendo. Banjo would be one of the biggest characters in Smash for the West

Smash Ultimate is going to sell well though, I wouldn't mind if they do a "Fire Emblem" and introduce us to a Japanese Nintendo exclusive series in order to test the waters and see how well it would do here. I would more Starfy ports, but alas, the guy is an assist trophy

Not a single newcomer character in Ultimate we got so far have gotten in because of promotion, especially the likes of Dark Samus and K. Rool.

Ridley design could very well be his design in MP4
Isabelle was clearly for AC switch
Simon and Richter likely for castelvania collection
Inkling for splatoon 2
Luigis new vacuum design was for LM3
Wolfs new outfit might be for the new star fox racing game
Warios new gold buttons might be for a new wario land

smash is for marketing bud
Just like any crossover fighting game is used for

I think you're confusing him with Nobuo Uematsu, who has done a lot of Square music and the theme for Brawl.

I think Sakurai has gotten more music since the direct, FF most likely.

Nobuo Uematsu also did music for Granblue Fantasy.

There's always more behind the scenes that leads to a decision for a character.

This wouldn't be the case hadn't been Ultimate been the game we know at this moment. We're going to be reaching an almost 80 character roster and every character in one way or another matters. Ken, makes sense, the original echo fighter. Incineroar, new Pokemon. Geno, fan-favorite request. Every character has a huge purpose, and I don't see mobile games getting representation outside of an assist trophy, at best.

If you add Katalina you might as well add Teemo from league of legends as a playable character. I mean, popular game right? And nintendo has done stuff with tencent, who own riot games, teemo is an easy choice for P R O M O T I O N, I'm, pretty sure a while back verge hinted that a league of legends fighting game was in development, so it fits with verge theory too, teemo's a lock trust me.

I really don't like the degrading of standards of what consistutes a 3rd party, even Steve minecraft has earned his salt enough to be a respectable 3rd party, even if it's gonna be obnoxious looking at the reactions, gacha is the same type of scum as lootboxes and i dunno how these guys get away with it in the same way that EA doesn't.
