Or maybe because Yoshi in the 90s was branching out like DK and Wario and has since regressed, while DK and Wario have evolved into entirely unique franchises.

This begs the question though. If Sakurai wanted to have all starting characters to have separate logos, why not extend that to Luigi and Jigglypuff? It's just two characters. I think people like to go for that conclusion because they don't think Sakurai treats my boi as a star of his own series...

Poochy is a dog. Everything he could theoretically do is already covered in Smash by a far more iconic character. As for Kamek, I mean, does he really qualify as a Yoshi character? He's been just as prominent in Mario games.

And then there's the babies, which I suppose count. But I dunno, beating up animals and kids is one thing, but actual babies is another.

Oh, and then there's the Stork! Remember when people legitimately wanted the Stork! I remember those days.

Eh, Yoshi games still use a lot of Mario stuff, from the babies to Kamek, it's all clearly still Mario. The only "Yoshi" character you could argue in having the same icon as him is Poochy because even Kamek would be considered a Mario character.

This is true. The only thing is WHY would they hide these stages? It makes sense for some of them to be tied to unrevealed newcomers. I could easily see a new SF stage for Ken and a new Pokemon stage for Incineroar.

See, the fallacy of your argument is that Isaac's actually shown utilizing non-natural abilities in his series, whereas Poochy has been shown to do... dog things.

If ever there was a character suited for an assist trophy role, Poochy's it.

Kamek is definitely a Yoshi character. He did not exist till the first game in the series. He's literally designed for it. He didn't even properly show up otherwise till the RPG's later on as Baby Bowser's caretaker. That's who is meant for. Baby Bowser is a Yoshi character too. Shy Guy is the only one who started as a Mario character, but became more associated with Yoshi instead.

Anyway, Yoshi was currently having his own games when he got his logo. That's all it was, the right timing when actually becoming a character. Wario would have had the Mario logo if it was during Melee, as he only had a few Mario spin-offs at the time. He didn't really separate himself till WarioWare to any major degree. Wario Land is great, but it's a very clear derivative of Mario's games, due to the transformation gimmick being very similar to Mario's power-ups. He also was officially labeled a Mario character in the trophies at the time, which is part of why I believe it'll be like this. Plus, Yoshi's Story, unlike Yoshi's Island, was pretty much pure Yoshi, having little to do with Mario himself. The actual characters still mostly existed, but it also had its own full assets and atmosphere. Yoshi's Island still was basically a design similar to Super Mario World.
