Geno left an impression on me because,

A.) He was the first entity in ANY Mario game to imply a deeper lore; this entire concept of the stars being part of some kind of divine hierarchy, which continued in things like Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, and more.

B.) He was easily one of the best party members battle-wise. Peach is a great healer, and with the Lazy Shell, Mario is just as good as Bowser at single kills. Geno is the AoE mage, and he’s the best at that role. My preferred team is always Mario, Geno, and Peach.

Your second reason is exactly why I think the impression of Geno differs so much from person to person. Unless you consistently used him in your party, he kinda just disappears for the rest of the game.

Maybe I'm not looking at him the proper way, but I never see the same character people are describing whenever they talk about Geno. Even in his own game, I thought he was outclassed by other characters like Booster and Mallow. He's not terrible or anything, but aside from his generic "I'm a levelheaded tough guy here to protect the world" personality, there isn't really any part of him that would make me say he was memorable.

So here’s another pointless side quest while we wait for another 14 hours for this Direct.

Let’s say you had only one character to show support for and, because of some driving, unseen force, it can only be a character that is somehow related to your username by name/theme/franchise/alphabet/etc.

For me, Venus of the Desert Bloom. Isaac is obvious pick so I’m gonna do the opposite and choose Krookadile.

For instance, I love Muk because I use it a lot for poison coverage on my teams and because I remember the anime appearances really well. People like to point to Muk as a bad gen 1 pokemon, but I love it.

I mean, personality is a subjective thing. I found some fan favourites really dull, and a lot of people aren't interested in my faves. It all comes down to personal experience and appearently, a lot of people found him memorable.

Huh, I’d usually say this kinda thing isn’t worth looking to deep into, but that seems kinda different than a typical PR answer.

Although the main thing is that before the Switch in 2017, Nintendo just didn’t have any Bethesda games, so I can’t really see any as a playable character since that would’ve had to have been planned since 2015.

However, I could see a Bethesda character in another role like a boss or assist trophy.

A boss could be a dragon from Skyrim, some big demon from Doom, or some mutant from Fallout (I’m the most knowledgeable person on Bethesda games).

A Vault Boy assist would be kinda funny. Not sure exactly what he could do, but it could work. He could be like Tingle where he has multiple random things he could do, with the activities taken from the different perk icons in Fallout.

These trademarks don't automatically translate to a playable character. Nintendo could be trademarking these series because of a new song or a Mii Costume. Basically, any content related to the series could be fair game.

There's no mention of a character, he's just asked whether he's spoken to Nintendo about Smash, and that's it really. Could mean anything really, even nothing.

So I’m gonna say that a safe bet is Isaac or Skull Kid to appear in this Direct. A moderately safe bet would be a new Pokémon rep. A not fairly likely bet would be either Banjo-Kazooie or Geno. I’m not saying they are unlikely overall but we just got our 3rd party so having another one right off the bat isn’t something I think is likely.

Funny... I was thinking the opposite. Which is fitting given our conversation from before.
At E3, we got two big accouncements. In the last direct, we got two big announcements.
While there is no determined rate (ever), it makes me think we will get two big announcements for this direct (its not Smash, but its also closer to the game, which I qualify as keeping hype at decently high levels... which would also promote online services).
I have been thinking the whole time, either a third party and an old Nintendo series' character, or a new Nintendo franchise for Smash plus an old Nintendo franchise.
So my thoughts are Isaac + Bandana Dee, or new third party and someone else.
