Here's a fun challenge. Give every character a home stage. It can be a stage already in the game, a missing stage or a brand new one! However, it's only 1 stage per character so no duplicates and they have to be from the character's franchise

If I start doing that list now, I couldn't finish it before we have new fighters in our hands.

Super Sluggers seems like an oddly specific trademark to renew, but K. Rool did show up there last time.

Why wouldn't they take it into account? What source do you have for that?

Until further notice, none of the original characters from Hyrule Warriors (like Cia) have shown up anywhere else, for instance. Plus the fact that Ganondorf's redesign is exclusive to it, regardless of many people wanting it as a costume swap in Smash.

Then there's the royal twins in Fire Emblem Heroes, there hasn't been any sign of them at all so far, even though Nintendo wouldn't resist the chance to promote a recent FE installment of some sort.

Also, if I recall correctly, Sakurai tends not to directly copypaste movesets from other games (Mega Man doesn't use much from his MvC appearances, for example).

Why not count Hyrule Warriors? If we ignore Spin-offs, then Super Mario RPG doesn't exist.


Also the Skull Kid in Majora's Mask, is the same Skull Kid from Oot, and heavily implied to be the one in TP, who also serves as the penultimate challenge in Crossbow Training. He even has a costume in Monster Hunter

And the other half of the character, Majora's Mask, has made several appearances later as well via cameos and bonuses. It was even a stage in Melee.


Skull Kid is hardly comparable to other one offs.

I really don't see the issue with characters being "one-off". If Cloud had never appeared in another game after FF7, would anyone say he wasn't iconic/popular enough? What about Shovel Knight or Duck Hunt? If a one-off character is a great, iconic character then their number of appearances really shouldn't matter.

Super Mario RPG is one of the best SNES games and is usually on a lot of people's top-10 RPG of all-time lists, and it generally gets 9's across the board. The game added a lot of unique characters and locales that clearly have stuck with people because of how good they were. I used to watch my brother play it when I was like 4, and Mallow, Geno, the Axum Rangers, and Smithy all stuck with me far more than some reoccurring Nintendo characters (Bowser Jr., Little Mac, the whole FE crew are far less memorable and iconic for me).

Honestly, character wants are personal choices and are like opinions. Everyone has them, what's important is to respect those of others as long as it isn't Steve or the Dragonborn.

Well its not out of the realm of possibility. With almost all of us expecting only one new fighter and an echo in the smash direct I think its fairly safe to hype ourselves up for 3 characters at least.

We got very little final fantasy songs. And in the superstar saga remake Geno had to be cut from the game.

I think that hurts his chances of being in the game as a fighter tbh

I'll say one unique, one echo. Gotta remember this is only 35 minutes and is for all Nintendo stuff. I'm honestly more excited for any new Daemon X Machina info/gameplay (demo please). There are some people, including Mimique who even think there could be a tease of Spirits mode, I personally don't think so though.
However, Animal Crossing switch and Golden Sun remaster/4/whatever + Isaac and Isabelle in Smash I find possible.

The song problem isn't directly from square as they don't hold the rights to them (or so I've heard).

I only argue this point because I want Sora and Kingdom Hearts music.

While I think that's a bit overreacting, this place (and any place that talks Smash) defintely overstates the hype of a single Mario RPG. While I don't wish it never existed, I do roll my eyes when people talk about how great it is.

Just so you know I do the same with Major when people talk about how "dark" it is. And I still want Skull Kid, so my feelings are relatively unrelated to Geno/Boshi (I personally think it would be crazy to have either of them in, but at this point I could see Geno).

Name one instance where HW is mentioned at all by Sakurai compared to Geno. There's your problem. You're making comparisons that don't make sense. It doesn't matter if it's a spin-off or not overall here. One is actually noted by Sakurai, which already invalidates that point hard. Also, Mario and Zelda are entirely different beasts. The Mario series has actual spin-off content in Smash. The Zelda series does not. Thus, the comparison falls flat.

Skull Kid is pretty much comparable to Geno here. He's had literally two canon appearances as is, and unlike Mario, Zelda has an actual canon. The Mask itself is a one-shot appearance, while the Skull Kid in question is barely present in OOT while a major villain in the next game to finish off its story. Otherwise, it's a race that shows up in more games. Actually, isn't the literal Skull Kid only present in TP otherwise for canon games? Not exactly a huge repertoire to begin with. Also, how is it implied that the TP one is the original Skull Kid from MM/Link's friend? I have heard this before, but never saw any real data to prove this. And even then, that's not exactly... a giant game list. He's important in one game and has two very small appearances in two others. The only thing Geno really has is the fact he's not as huge of a character even in his own story role as people like to exaggerate. He's important, but Mallow is more so as is. He's no side character, but he isn't the protagonist either. Basically, Bowser, Mallow, and Mario are the most important in Super Mario RPG among the heroes. Peach and Geno have lesser roles(with Peach having an even lesser role overall, being a tagalong at that point).

I already posted this in the previous page. But once again I got ignored I mean...I wish peoples would pay more attention to me, so that I don't have to explain all over again...

The Skull Kid in TP plays Saria's Song, implying a connection to OoT.

Being every game likes to make callbacks, and the Hero's Shade exists, "heavily implied" is definitely an exaggeration. It's just a regular implication. But yeah, that makes sense.

That said, I forgot to mention another point; Mario doesn't even have a canon. It's not supposed to. It's designed so that every character can be in any game because they're similar to actors.

The Zelda series has a straight canon, so spin-off games don't count for it. Link's Crossbow Training could legitimately happen after TP, I think(but I don't remember if the enemy list would contradict the final events, having characters who are dead by that point/impossible to face, so...), but HW cannot legitimately happen if it isn't added to the timeline. Which it's not. It was never meant to be part of the official story. It's a fun spin-off that's fanservice-based, like a lot of Warrior spin-offs.

Skull Kid is not a one-off character; he appears in OoT, Majora’s Mask, and Twilight Princess.

It doesn’t matter if they’re the same Skull Kid or not; each iteration of Link and Zelda is different as it is.

It doesn’t matter if Majora’s Mask is his most significant role; the Zelda characters each have designs based on one game as it is.

We specifically have BotW Link, LbW Zelda, and OoT Ganondorf, so I don’t see why MM Skull Kid is any different. It’s just using his most well-known appearance.
