Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

To be fair the mural isn’t even complete, and we don’t even know if DLC characters will have their own mural or not

But THIS? Seriously?
o-o Yeah, that's true, though an incomplete mural that it is already freakin' amazing as it is, is better than...like you said, a lazy snapshot of Battlefield with the Smash logo stapled on it.

I’d have a Zelda fighting game, maybe a 3D one like Pokken, but a 2D one would be just as cool.

1) Link (styled like Ocarina, and using items from that game)
2) Zelda (in pink dress like Ultimate)
3) Ganon (based on the original boar-like appearance)
4) Link of the Past (based on and using items from Link to the Past, like the boomerang, fire and ice rods, and hammer)
5) Sheik
6) Ganondorf
7) Masked Link (using items from Majora’s Mask, being able to change between the four forms)
8) Tingle
9) Skull Kid
10) Toon Link (using items from Wind Waker, like the Deku Leaf and Skull Hammer, and maybe also some from Phantom Hourglass)
11) Tetra
12) Toon Ganon (based on and using his two swords from Wind Waker)
13) Vaati
14) Twilight Link and Midna (being able to switch between Wolf Link with Midna riding, and human form using items from Twilight Princess like the spinner and ball & chain)
15) Zant
16) Link of the Sky (using items from Skyward Sword, like the gust bellows, whip, and beetle)
17) Ghirahim
18) Groose
19) Champion Link (using abilities from BotW, like the tunes and the four Champion powers)
20) Impa (based on her appearance in BotW, and playing like the Moz Koshia boss fight)

No guest characters really. I’m not even sure what series they could be from.
Good. You remembered my Boi Groose

Kat & Ana as Warioware newcomers
Ah...I see you are also someone of culture.

Honestly, Wario anything would get me hyped at this point, and it would definitely help me feel less sad about Ashley. I'd be down with Kat & Anna, especially if we have the Wario Ware Gold voice actors.

If the Smash character(s) that were originally planned to be revealed in the direct are neither Incineroar, Skull Kid OR Isaac, who would you expect?

I’d expect Isabelle regardless, maybe one additional echo (either Ken or Black Shadow) and one unique that DOESN’T have a particularly huge hype following (Elma, Waddle Dee).
Most likely Elma, and if this counts, a Pokémon other than Incineroar.

As for Echoes, I’m inching towards Ken or Isabelle.

Seeing how they number the characters now, I think it’s possible that they pre planned which chracaters to reveal.

I don't get why people want skull kid in the game tbh. He's always been more of an assist trophy to me than a direct fighter. Can't see him beating up anyone imho

Are characters that were featured on PlayStation All Stars definitely never gonna be in Smash? I would’ve really wanted Sackboy or Ratchet and Clank in Smash Bros but instead they got stuck in a terrible Sony Smash rip off that no one cares about.

I've had enough of being against character inclusions only to do a 180° once they're announced. I was a direct detractor of Pac-Man and Cloud before their reveal and Pac-Man ended up being ok(I like his normals but his specials are blegh) and ended up maining Cloud so yeah. I know well enough by this point that Smash will make me like inclusions I wouldn't normally do. Still, doesn't mean I can't prefer certain choices over others, I'd take any other Alola Pokemon over Incineroar because it just doesn't interest me even though I know it would be incredibly fun to play as, I believe other Pokemon would be EVEN MORE FUN than Incineroar.

Well, we know Heiahachi was considered for Smash 4. Hmm... That's making me think... Is that actually the reason he didn't get in?...

Sakurai couldn't think of a way to convert his moveset into a Smash one. Even the PS All-Stars devs must've had trouble since Heihachi's moveset includes things he doesn't do in Tekken.

I mean, we have characters like Villager, ROB, Mr. Game & Watch, Rosalina & Luma, and lots of others who typically don't fight in the games they come from. I don't see why Skull Kid would be any different from them...

Plus, he has beaten people up in Hyrule Warriors. I don't think moveset would be too much of a problem.

I'm like 99.99% sure that stream title is a meme title for his Spider-man stream, a joke on people asking him to make Smash videos constantly this far from it with nothing to talk about.

I think if people knew Sackboy or Ratchet and Clank had a chance at getting in, they would be quite popular in polls.

None of the Sony-owned characters seem likely, for rather obvious reasons.

The only characters that are even remotely possible are Heihachi from Tekken, Raiden from Metal Gear, Isaac Clarke from Dead Space (I think Dead Space got a Wii game?), or Dante from Devil May Cry (ideally the actual one and not Donte from the DmC reboot). Big Daddy's third party, but Bioshock as a series has zero presence on Nintendo consoles, which makes him seem less likely.

Steve would actually be a pretty cool pick IMHO. Minecraft has a LOT of source material to pull from that I think would mesh perfectly with Smash.

That's just me, though. I know there are people who aren't...ah, thrilled about the idea, but for me personally, I think it'd be great. Plus, I have friends who love Minecraft who would be insanely happy to see stuff from it, which would make me super happy for them.

Also the studio is gone I think? Which sucks.

I’d be down with Kratos, being our first true stance-changing character, switching from his Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos on the spot.

And throwing his axe with his Neutral B, and calling it back wherever it is with the same button, would be fun as hell.

But it would also require almost three move sets (Blades of Chaos mode, Leviathan Axe mode, and a fists mode for when you’re in Axe mode but you threw it), so it wouldn’t happen like this even if they had the rights.

No he isn't lmfao. He's playing Spider-Man, a game that takes place in NYC. The corner where the Nintendo store is is actually in the game, so he took a picture in-game from there and used it as clickbait for his stream. Obviously it worked, lol.

You know who would be cool in this game? Veran from Zelda.

Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn't care about the Oracle games so we'd be lucky to see her in anything at this point :yoshi:

Edit: I would also advise against searching her name in google images.

I reaoly wish we would get a RoA-style character that focuses on stage control. The closest we have is Inkling but it's, like, really trivial. I'd personally want something like Kragg's Up Special that just straight up summons a whole pillar in the middle of the stage.

I would hope Toon Link would be called Link of the Wind.

I kinda feel like if a Smash demo/testfire is planned, it'll either have to be announced this week or in some kind of Smash presentation in October. If we hit November without a demo, I feel like we won't get one.

Hyrule Warriors proved you can make a moveset work for him and have it feel like it’s something he actually does in the original game.

I'd really only be okay with Kratos if Master Chief got in too.

If he uses the ocarina as a weapon in Smash though they should try and make it significantly less irritating to listen to
I find the constant map update sounds are more annoying.

I want Skill Kid mainly just as someone I can play from my favorite Zelda game, and one of my favorite games period. Not necessarily because I think he would make a great Smash character or something.

The Wii Fit trainer and the dog from Duck Hunt got movesets, but the main antagonist of a Zelda game with a powerful magical mask is the one you can't see beating up anyone?

The hype train is back on track, in what has been a week later.

As much as Sly Cooper being on Nintendo anything is impossible, at least Sucker Punch is still alive and doing things. They did a N64 game once, but that's barely much of a justification or loophole, really.
