Since we always seem to be facing rumours and "leaks" from all directions in this thread I thought PushDustIn's thread on Twitter was a really timely and valuable read. I totally agree and relate with his stance.

Maybe not in the West but I believe it was one of the historically big guns in Japan. Awakening just happened to be the “Ocarina of Time” of Fire Emblem so it went from two characters to six characters in SSB4... just like how Zelda went from one character to five characters in Melee.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Awakening the first FE to break 1 million sales? Before that it was definitely one of the niche series in Smash that most people didn't know anything about, in fact they'd have pulled the plug on the entire series had Awakening not been a success. Of course it was bigger in Japan than in the West, but still far from a big shot series, two reps fit it just fine in Brawl at the time, and had Awakening bombed it might not even have gotten a newcomer in Smash 4 as it'd have been on a similar downwards trajectory as Metroid was.

They usually crash and burn yes but just enjoy it while it lasts and don't get to enraged when the day comes. Enjoy the final product.

As for "leaks" can we please call them rumours unless they come from Nintendo accidently (e.g. bloody tears and Yoshi's title)
Literal leaks usually come from the tap or hose (the source) not from external items.

Better to do it now, because as we keep getting more and more closer to release, it's gonna get more cutthroat and more toxic.

The other big Fire Emblem thing is that every character is a swordsman. Leaving aside the fact thay Lucy and Chrom are clones and Roy’s a semi, that’s still four unique sword kits.

Now Robin, Ike, Marth, and Corrin all play totally differently, and I’m not one of those people who complains that they all (save Robin) have a counter special. I think if we’d gotten characters like Hector (axe man) or Azura (lancer dancer lol), that may also have helped.

I'd probably be more accepting of FE characters if Sakurai actually took his advice and tried to make more "Robin" characters. If you're not gonna give them something besides a sword, then at least give them something in addition to the sword that really makes them stand out. Magic, a bow, freaky limb transformations like Corrin - I really don't care. Absolutely ANYTHING that would help the character stand out.

I dunno. It just really annoys me that only two of the seven FE characters stray away from the stereotypical generic swordfighter gimmick. And to add insult to injury, four of those characters have the same core moveset.

Well, with a fanbase like the Smash community, It was inevitable. They're like piranhas. I understand why Dustin went savage.

1. Announcement for new direct today at 10:00 AM EST (Or at least at some point today)
2. Direct tomorrow evening (or at least at some point tomorrow)

Mostly because I'd like to have the hype carry me through Hurricane Florence.
I've got real bad storm anxiety like a puppy so I need all the emotional distraction that I can get haha.

The FE hate isn't justifiable when ya'll were asking for Roy to come back even after Robin and Lucina were confirmed and Chrom has been highly requested ever since 4.
The only character that didn't get in due to fan demand is Corrin but they bring an unique moveset that quite literally can't be replicated by anyone else.

That is my exact issue with Lucina and Chrom. I dont hate them but I wish the Fire Emblem timeline received a more even spread. It, would show off all the awesome character designs and characters better this way.

It's like putting 6 Transformers into a fighting game for mecha and 3 of those Transformers are Michael Bay Transformers.

I agree with pupNapoleon 's on determining a character's chances by using just one single logic of "If popular X and Y can get in, so can Z".

That reason alone cannot magically evoke an interesting discussion unless you provide more interesting reasons of your own to back up the newcomer. When I make my newcomer analyses, I do my best to find as many plausible reasons as possible, while also explaining my reasons in great detail to get people to truly understand my perspective.

Not only is it not interesting, but it really is not an argument. For the sake of variety, something Sakurai has said regularly he encourages. As in, if x character gets in for this, y gets in for something else. If anything, if we get five characters with one thought in mind, it stands to reason that the others will be excluded for not being those characters.

Geno has merit on his own. I'd prefer his supporters stick to that. Slightly unrelated, but there is not much more unsettling to read than, "X will get in and function just like Y." If they function just the same, and arent an echo, then maybe they should not be getting in.

Think their logic is a bit off.

They quote a Japanese tweet that says an announcement is going to happen on the 13th. Think that implies that it'd be the 13th in Japan, and the 12th here unless the direct is in the morning for us (and thus, the night for them) and not at 6PM EDT.
6PM EDT on the 13th is 7AM Japan time on the 14th... which contradicts the tweet, if it has anything to do with the direct.

If DLC is a thing I can imagine either Byleth or Edelgard being a new FE rep next year, even though I think Fire Emblem representation is in a good place right now

I could see Fjorm getting in for DLC since FE Heroes is BIG, and they already added music from FE Heroes in Smash, I know music doesn't exactly mean instant newcomer, unless your last name is Belmont (rest in peace roasted intern), but if they're gonna add in a FE newcomers, I see it most likely coming from their highest selling game. It just seems like things are pushing in that direction right now. Then later on I can maybe see an additional newcomer from their new game come at a later date.

When you got everyone back, it relieves a lot of stress. Add on the fact this speculation era is only gonna be 2/3rd of the year instead of a year and a half, this might be one of the shortest, but definitely the most hype periods Smash will ever have.

I should've reworded what I said. I don't mind if her promote uses them, but it should be established that her main weapon is an axe. I think it would add to her character if she became attached or associated with royal axes, like halberds.

Outside of FE's Ephraim and Hector? The unnamed avatar from Etrian Odyssey Untold is a Highlander that wields a spear as their main weapon(though the female lead, Frederica, is the one in the boxart and she has GUN).

I never played Golden Axe but I would assume that one has an Axe lead.
Dinasty Warriors apparently has many spear protagonists.
But yeah, there aren't that many. There are a bunch of side characters using them or main characters using them as their main weapons but not the main character using them as their main weapon.

Any character that would make me cringe is either in the game or deconfirmed. I'm not too fond of some fan favourites but at this point I just want a character that I can be hyped about.

Most fan favorites I'm either actively into or just plain not against.

I think it'd have to be something particularly... special... to make me cringe. Rabbids in general, Steve from Minecraft, etc.
And even then I'd just kind... not play those

I would gladly take anime characters over some video game characters. But also I'm not super critical about it to begin with.

Honestly the biggest factor at this point that makes Smash Ultimate speculation toxic is people like Etika and Alpharad who comment on these leaks that end up being proven fake, yet don't delete the content lmao

Also, in regards to that Direct rumor, the tweet said it'd be on the 13th, so the Direct would be tomorrow, given timezones and such. At least, I think so.
