I doubt it- Smash does not outsell 3D Mario games, nor Mario Kart.

I'll be really surprised if this game doesn't win GOTY. Like really what game can seriously top this and this is coming from a GOW (God of War) fanboy like me.

Its got some contenders. Fallout always does well and now you're going to have an MMO version in Fallout: 76. There's also CoD 4 (not a fan of FPS other than Overwatch but it does garner a lot of attention. And, even though God of War seemed way overhyped to me (played it; kinda meh for me personally), it is definitely a contender for GotY.

While I totally agree, I just don't see more than 8 pallets happening, at least in the base game. Sakurai has been emphasizing each fighter having 8 pallets "Inkling has 8!" "Villager has 8 to choose from!" Even more recently in his Famitsu article following the August Direct, while talking about how the work that goes into echo fighters he emphasized that a part of that was rendering 8 separate portraits with 8 separate colors.

I don't like to take everything Sakurai says as gospel or at face value (for obvious reasons), but based on that I find additional alternate costumes unlikely for the base game.

Unfortunately I think you're right as hard as that is for me to say. I however do think DLC costumes will be a thing.

That's not what you got shut down for the other day hahaha. We aren't against free speech here, we're against being hateful.
Also on a more technical note, free speech only really applies with government control of speech. The moderators have a right to contain things here and that's not restricting your speech, just your platform, which they are not obligated to provide you.

Melee did outsell the likes of Sunshine, Super Circuit, and Double Dash, but I do agree with your overall point. I should have been more specific and referred to most games, not all. Although launching another huge franchise (such as Mario Kart) the same month as Ultimate would be misguided.

I would imagine the Sonic fan-base would generally feel...hmm, lets use the word "insulted", since that was the word I saw a lot when Waluigi was confirmed to remain an assist trophy. The fans of Metal Sonic specifically would be happy, the fans of Shadow would be most likely upset if it implies no only was Metal Sonic the Sonic echo, but Knuckles is now the designated assist trophy to that franchise.

The rest will either be annoyed, that a Sonic character was added at all, apathetic because they are focused on another character or a strange blend of one or more of the previously listed states.

I think he'd still be hyped up, a lot of people like Metal Sonic and early on he came up a lot on lists of possible echo fighters. But he's fallen off a little bit recently.

Personally, I think he's better as a semi clone than a straight up clone of Sonic and Shadow fits that spot better. I'd take him, Tails or even Eggman before him (as playable characters in general.) He's still cool though.

Let us calculate the probability:

Next direct unknown...probably not until the middle of the month at least...8th at the earliest...thread moves at least 20 pgs a day ( I think)....and we're 213 pages away.
Let's see....213 pages...20 per day at minimum.... gives us 11 days maximum. If a legitimate or convincing leak shows, we can reach 4000 in half that. and we're at least 7 days away from a Direct I think.

Brawl sold more than either of the Galaxy games. I wouldn't be surprised for Ultimate to sell more than Brawl and reach 15m+ units.
