Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I have a game, name one set of moves (air, special, smash, etc.) for a potential/not so potential newcomer and see if other people can guess what charecter you refrencing.
D-smash, smoke, 3 columns of smoke shoot up in two directions, useful for juggling and edge guards
Up smash, uses portable pad to play a burst of music upwards, kill move
F-smash, light show, his helmet lights create a hit box directly in front of him. No idea how you'd use this, cool none the less
Is it

...Daft Punk?

Just want to clarify, since yesterday with the Banjo and Kazooie image with the watermark, have we gotten anymore leaks or rumors involving screenshots?

While I fell asleep, I skimmed over what I had missed. Was only five pages so I don't think there was anything mind-blowing, unless I missed something. But since the game's been rated (though probably the ESRB probably won't leak given what happened previously), I'm gonna be extra cautious about image leaks.

Let's do this. I'll give you a hint, the character's in my Signiture (or he was before all the images died).

Neutral B: Adjective. [hidden] applies an adjective to either him or an opponent. If applied to him it acts like one of Shulk's Monado arts, but applied to an enemy it's a nerf.

Side B: Drive-Through. [hidden] summons a vehicle at random to run away or into battle. There are multiple possibilities with varying speed, power, and special abilities.

Up-B: Magic Globe. [hidden] uses his sister's magic globe to teleport back onto the stage. after a second or two [hidden] disappears and reappears in a swarm of yellow light. It's near identical to Zelda's up B

Down B: Wall. [hidden] summons a wall. It can be attacked and if hit into an opponent it does huge damage and breaks their shield near instantly, and it can also be used as a platform. Takes about 15 seconds to despawn and only one can be active at a time.

I like this game:

Neutral Special: charges a lightning spell, first level summons a bolt of thunder in front of him, second level summons a blast of electricity around him and the third and final level has them rise in the air and conjure a dome of light that acts as apowerful multi-hit
Side Special: slashes the ground and makes a spark projectile come out of it, traveling alongside the ground ala grounded Cloud Neutral B, though much faster and will go through opponents, but it'll always stick to the ground and be affected by gravity should it fall off a platform.
Up Special: jumps in the air before crashing down with a sword slash that deals double damage to airbone opponents
Down Special: changes support that affect his specials properties. For example, first support turns Neutral B into an ice spell that summons ice spikes, the second into a fire spell that summons flame pillars, the third into a shadow spell that fires laser beams, the fourth into a water spell that conjures an whirpool and the fifth into a wind "spell" that summons a cyclone. The other specials gain properties appropriate to these elements.

Final Smash: he summons a flying machine that goes faster than light, going from one end of the screen to the other in an instant, piercing through his opponents with it.

Crono times his approach!

I wonder if Nintendo is going to support SSBU using DLC or would they do something like Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom (Ultimate Super Smash Bros Ultimate)

I'm a little late to that discussion, but imo Banjo & Kazooie's N&B design is fine if it looks like the Boxart version, and not the ingame version.
I kinda hope banjo will get "Smashified" like with K Rool.
Take the base of his iconic, original design, but add the few good elements from his modern design. Like how K Rool got that gem on his cape.
I like how this artist draws Banjo & Kazooie

Jill and Shuma-Gorath were DLC in the original Mahvel 3, after all :p
And they were still DLC in UMvC3 for some reason, meaning if you buy the game for PS3 or 360 now, you can't play as them at all. They're included with the PS4, Xbone, and PC versions though.

It's nice how he even manages to cutify characters from Conker's Bad Fur Day, seeing a happier Conker hold a smoking wad of dollars is such a contrast.

Or do like Marvel vs Capcom 3 did and do both.

Given that the Big N generally does their own thing, I doubt we'd see that until the Switch's successor, at the latest.

They should, game's gonna loose a lot of content if the servers go dark and there's no way to update it.

An all content release should be the way to go tbh.

Smash has a wide range of fighters from your average joes to offensive powerhouses, pressure characters, zoning characters, glass cannons, joke characters, sword users, magic users, tech users, hammer users, gimmick characters, etc etc.

Are there any other character archetypes that would form the basis, not a portion, of that characters general overview?

The only two I came up with is a pure grappler character akin to Zangief and a poison-based fighter akin to FANG ( sorry so many Street Fighter comparisons but that’s my jam).

I guess for the grappler archetype, Fighter Hayabusa, Starman, or Incineror would fit. And for poison, maybe Lip or Toxicroak?

Anyone else have any ideas?
How about a Poison based fighter like Poison:love:

Yoshi's egg
I decided to make a move set for one of my most wanted newcomers, Woolly Yoshi. Let me know what you all think!

Woolly Yoshi Concept

Woolly Yoshi is my idea for a second Yoshi representative. I believe that Woolly Yoshi has enough unique tools and attributes that would make it a fun character to have in Smash. There are plenty of characters that have multiple versions of themselves in the game – so why not the iconic dino?

General: Yoshi would be a lightweight and floaty character as he is made of wool. He has incredible aerial mobility like Jigglypuff, and moves quickly along the ground. When he runs, he uses his wheels from Woolly World. In the air, Yoshi’s second jump is also a flutter jump with armour performed with propellers like in Woolly World, however Woolly Yoshi’s covers more horizontal distance rather than vertical. When Yoshi enters the stage, he rides on Poochie. His alts are not different colours, they’re the redesigns from the game like Shy Guy Yoshi, Cinnamon Yoshi etc.

Special moves:

Standard B: Yarn Ball. This move works exactly like Yoshi’s egg, the only difference here is that they are trapped inside of a yarn ball.

Side B: Moto-Yoshi. Woolly Yoshi transforms into a motorbike and rushes across the stage. Works more similarly to Sonic’s spin dash than it does Wario’s Bike. Can be used in the air to gain horizontal distance.

Down B: Hammer Ground Pound. Another move that Woolly Yoshi shares is the ground pound. Here, Woolly Yoshi turns into a giant hammer and slams down onto the opponents. It is much stronger than Yoshi’s version, but much slower. Think more like Kirby’s Stone.

Up B: Umbrella Yoshi. Woolly Yoshi transforms into an umbrella and flies upwards, headbutting everyone in the way. He floats down like Peach/Daisy.

Smash attacks:

Up Smash: Woolly Yoshi turns into Mermaid Yoshi and does a backflip, hitting with his tail.

Side Smash: Woolly Yoshi transforms into Mole Yoshi and slashes at them with large claws.

Down Smash: Yoshi’s feet turn into propellers and attacks them similar to Bowser Jr.’s down smash.

Final Smash:

Yoshi turns into Sky Pop Yoshi and flies around the stage as a plane, shooting everyone with missiles as he goes.
As a Yarn Yoshi (echo, mostly) supporter, this is really good.
Also, is it Yarn Yoshi or Woolly Yoshi? What do you guys think?

I don’t want the Nut and Bolts design, I literally hate it so much because it’s so blocky and polygonal that it hurts to look at.

Please no.

I personally think that if they go the Capcom route, the updated version of Ultimate would likely be on a different console.

Medusa could be a bit poison-based (with petrification on the side).

I believe the consensus is "Yarn Yoshi".

Gotta love alliteration.

The Nuts and Bolts design looks incredibly creepy to me, and I don't usually find stuff like that creepy. XD
It’s the eyes, they made them really small and heady and it’s kind off-putting.

I didn’t really like Nuts and Bolts character-design or character writing-wise in all honesty.

Guess I made it too easy, didn't I? :p
I think I'll turn this into a full moveset later, I've always felt that if Crono were to get in, Double Techs would have too somehow as that's one of the main factors that differentiates CT from other RPGs and just an overall cool mechanic.
Making Crono a Satnce Fighter basically, though he would maybe only have Marle and Lucca instead of the whole party.

It's like they wanted to kill off Banjo-Kazooie.

Which I wouldn't be surprised by, considering the Spiral Mountain stage in it (haven't played the BK series myself, I just know what the Spiral Mountain stage in N&B entails).
You think DLC is just going to suddenly upgrade 3 confirmed Assist Trophies to playable characters? You're very optimistic.
I'd say they might consider upgrading Lyn, because her popularity didn't really become apparent to IntSys (and therefore Nintendo as a whole) until after the Project Proposal was made (and people probably wouldn't have voted for her on the ballot, because she was an Assist Trophy then, too).

Well, another month of speculation begins, as the clock ticks down. So close, yet so far. I hope there's a Direct announcement sometime this week.

Yoshi fans would throw a fit if they did otherwise (the voice itself, that is, said voice clips not having been updated a bit is pretty lazy, you'd think they'd at least ask Totaka about borrowing the modern ones). Besides, the dinos are too cute for this sort of thing, whereas Bowser and Donkey Kong (and now K. Rool) are firece-looking beasts, so them having growling noises is somewhat natural for them. I'll give you Diddy though, but I don't mind it.

As low as their chances are, it'd be neat to have Joe & Mac with their clubs around. Not to mention Master Higgins and the hammers he tosses.

Then there's Earthworm Jim, who literally uses his own head to whip people from time to time.
I like Joe and Mac.

And honestly, Earthworm Jim would be great for me.

But I meant Bonk.

Because look at my icon.

But I suppose I should have specified “headbutting caveman that would fully bring the complete 16 bit console wars and has a 2d shooter superhero persona”

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind seeing a stand-alone release of "Klungo Ssssssaves The World!". More people need to play Klungo's "stupid game" and its unexpected reprisal of a less ugly Gruntilda on the cover art.

I like Joe and Mac.

I know, I'm a Bonk supporter myself *points to sig*. Plus he would be able to climb walls, unlike other players, and power himself up by eating meat.

Here's to hoping he gets more support next time...:smash:

I mean K. Rool is back to his original form, don't see why Banjo & Kazooie wouldn't go through the same as well.
especially since their last actual title was Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts which was almost a decade ago.

I think most "leaks" should be taken as fake. For me, there are two exceptions:

1.) Video proof. A clear clip that shows the rumored character fighting against a veteran, and it looks good.

2.) From a reputable leaker. Can't be anonymous. Has to be someone willing to put their name out there, and that name is someone who has accurately leaked information before.

In the case of Number 2, though, I still wouldn't take it as fact; just something to keep an eye out for.

In Nuts and Bolts for whatever reason the writers decided to make every character a condescending asshole, everyone in the game including characters like Mumbo Jumbo and Bottles is a **** and it always bothered me whenever I played the game because that isn’t who the characters are.

But yeah, as a car building game it’s fine mechanically, and the soundtrack is wonderful, it’s just not a good Banjo Kazooie game as a whole... Like at all...

I don't think we'll see any ESRB leak this time. I imagine they're gonna be a lot more careful this time because of last time.

So yea I don't think we'll be seeing a leak from them.

And a bonus one.

3.) Full picture of the character select screen. Any leaker worth their salt with an access to the game would know the order of the reveals for unique newcomers due to how characters are ordered. Fake leakers know that it's done this way too and don't do it since one wrong prediction and their whole fake leak falls apart.

That number 3 wouldn't prove anything, but it'd give us a way to properly test a leak.

If they really wanted to surprise us, I think an obscure platforming character like Plok or Ristar or Zool or Wild Woody would be great. There's a lot of picks from that weird era of games that they could use just to baffle people and please others. I'd love it if they did something like that. They would all fit in pretty well too, is the thing.

Mostly i just want plok though

Part of me feels like they did want to kill them off, in a way. Not necessarily the designers making the unfortunate decisions, but the situation reads as Microsoft wanting to buy a great studio, with very little interest in the IP itself. And with Nuts and Bolts, rather than "broadening the demographic" as is joked about in the game, it's more like they were targeting their demographic, which in their words, care more about shooters and customization than platforming collect-a-thons. And since they realized their audience wouldn't be into the latter, and the former didn't catch on, they dropped it all together. Where as if Nintendo kept them, I'm sure we would have gotten Banjo-Threeie as it should have been.

Which is why B&K should go back to Nintendo where they belong. They won't, except perhaps through Smash. And in my heart, they will always be Nintendo characters, no matter who owns them.

It's obvious they weren't enjoying working on it, one bit. There was more goodwill in goddamn Conker's Bad Fur day compared to this. It's telling Kazooie even outright said "is it just me or have video game characters lost their charm?".
