I don't know, DKC has always looked off to me. I understand that it was revolutionary at the time, but something just looks wrong about it to me. Something about the colors and animations just don't seem right. Not actually hating on DKC, I totally respect what it's done for the gaming industry and for Nintendo, and I'm happy to see K.Rool make it into the roster. It was ahead of its time, but one of the things about being ahead of your time is that once the technology catches up, it just doesn't hold up as well anymore.

I thought it was generally agreed upon that cartoonish styles tend to age better then "realistic" ones because they aren't nearly as dependent on technology they're using.

Unless its timeless, which it is.

If you actually want to ask instead of assuming stuff...

I simply don't think of the graphics of the games in terms of 'better' than the other. They're incomparable and yet fascinating and charming for different reasons.

I just realized if the song theory is true and each franchise is only going to get one song and that song is related to the series getting a newcomer hen Kirby isn't going to get any newcomers because it already has a song on the site

Except for an echo fighter, because the songs don't seem to correlate with echo fighters, just newcomers

If you care for retro platformers it's an amazing game, and it's got fantastic humor aswell, it's well worth the money imo. The two additional stories are also top drawer.

If Vergeben is to be believed, we're supposed to get about "half a dozen newcomers after E3", which has lined up with the reveal rate so far. Simon and K Rool account for two of those, so that leaves us with four. Presumably those don't include echoes, since Sakurai isn't counting them as newcomers either.

Skull Kid's AT is suspiciously absent, Majora's Mask was big in 2016, and as tinfoil as it sounds the room decor theory could be true.

Vergeben claims that we're getting a 7th gen Pokemon that isn't Decidueye, Mimikyu, or Lycanroc. This lines up with past trends, each Smash game has a Pokemon newcomer from the newest generation at the time of launch. My money is on Incineroar, but I could very well be wrong.

He also claims that we're getting a second Square Enix rep. If Geno got in, that would complete the holy trinity of fan favorites comprised of Ridley, K Rool, and Geno.

As for the fourth, it's really anyone's game.

For echo fighters, Vergeben has said to disregard any leak that doesn't include Ken and Isabelle. Shadow is an easy echo and his AT is missing. Black Knight has been replaced with a generic knight on Castle Siege.

I predict Skull Kid, Incineroar, and Geno for remaining newcomers, and Isabelle, Shadow, Ken, and Black Knight for echo fighters.

Yeah having four more newcomers lines up well if we end up getting 1 Newcomer in September,1 in October and 2 in November alongside more echoes

Smash Ultimate Ridley actually seems to have shades of the Manga personality, twirling Mario’s hat around on his finger after snapping his neck.

Damn lad, chill. I like how the Ridley in the trailer and game have kept the Sadistic and Cruel personality of this one too. Makes Other M make a LITTLE bit more sense.

I'll just say on the games aging thing that I just... disagree strongly. I'm a firm believer that games are art, and while new technology can do interesting things, it's merely different and the real quality always came from the skill of the game developers which, since humans are the same as ever, is basically constant. The best games from every era are about equally good to the best games from every other era, and this does apply to the visual art in the games as well. I think DKC is a good looking game but not top tier aesthetically, my opinion on how good looking it is has not changed even a little since the 90s when I first played it, and I don't really understand the perspective that says it looked good in the 90s and looks bad today.

I also wouldn't put too much stock into song thinking. While echo fighters aren't really newcomers, we sure did see Dark Samus after we already had Metroid music on the site, and I don't think that particular piece of Metroid music was even important to Ridley's reveal while we're at it. We probably are only getting one piece of music on the site per franchise, but I don't think it will particularly relate to which characters we're shown other than that you can probably safely knock a Galaga character off your wishlist.

I wouldn't be surprised if they solely went with Ridley's manga characterizstion simply due to it being more popular among the Ridley fanbase. Really wish they would allow him to shine like that in one of the games.

I really like how Sakurai basically made Ridley's cruel nature what sets him apart from the rest of the cast, he doesn't have any crazy gameplay gimmick, but he's still a very unique addition because of the overall feel of the character. It's very obvious that Sakurai drew heavily from the manga version of the character.

In the present age, homogenization of thought and opinion is an ill of the times.

Feels tad like I'm breathing this kind of a quote in my blood when it comes to speculation in this period. Seems to flowing well on my hindsight on current character hopes overall.

No mention of Captain Toad still, even if we saw him in the site.. Hmmh.

Kinda weird indeed cause I always saw Captain Toad as the main frontrunner in terms of a Mario newcomer. Then again, I saw Toad as a frontrunner for a Mario newcomer in Smash 4 as well.

Zachmac was comparing DKC's graphical longevity to Yoshi's Island's (which still looks phenomenal to this day). Don't take it to heart...

Incidentally, Yoshi's New Island tried to take advantage of the CGI that was mostly dropped from YI. Needless to say, that backfired immensely.

I would legit laugh if THAT of all things got included as a music track. It'd be worth seeing the English fanbase being utterly baffled and confused by it.

As a more serious suggestion, there is one of the Halberd tracks that Revenge of the King used for Castle Dedede, I guess. Either that or Megaton Punch!

Ya but Kirby already got the City Trial theme so Bandana Dee wouldn't get a music update (of course according to this theory, I'm not saying it's nothing decisive). By the way, Ridley did get a music update: the Brinstar Depths remix, which was one of the first ones uploaded when the site opened and just after Ridley was announced.
