I think one reason Black Knight could be a likely character is because of how little effort he would take. He would always be wearing his helmet so he wouldn't require any facial animation or anything. I don't know the details of how development works but I can't imagine getting him up and running would be near as difficult as a character Like Medusa or Dixie Kong. Granted I think both of them are more likely than BK but he seems like a really quick and easy addition.

designing a character is the easy part. the time comes into moveset balance, moveset design, moveset animation, character balancing, themes, and more. the actual character model is the easiest part. no new character is an easy addition. no additon of quality in any game is easy. sakurai saying something is easier doesnt mean it is easy overall.

How many Echos do you think we can expect to be left? I'm betting on there being around 3-5 more:


1. Shadow (Sonic) (Honestly surprised more Sonic characters haven't been added to Smash yet. Always seemed like an obvious thing to do to me.)

2. Isabelle (Villager) (Not as confident about her as I was a few weeks ago, but I still think the odds are good. Animal Crossing is HUGE, I would be surprised if it didn't get anything substantially new in Ultimate.)

3. Ken (Ryu) (I reaaaaalllllyyyy don't like this idea, but I've kinda just accepted it at this point. He's the only one of these I'm gonna say is a near lock, and that makes me kinda sad as I don't really care for him, lol.)

4. Dark Meta Knight (Meta Knight) (This is a risky prediction, as I honestly believe Kirby won't get squat in this game.)

5. Boshi (Yoshi) (Predictions aren't fun if you're not bold! If Geno is in, I think this guy actually has a slight chance. Extremely slight, though.)


I'm very likely to be wrong on all of this. I'm terrible at predicting Smash.

Honestly I think they're going to go insane with Echoes. I predict 7 more.


Impa (Sheik): A decently popular Zelda character. Default design is SS, with HW being an alt. Revealed with Skull Kid.

Dixie (Diddy): Too popular to be absent. Has DK's up B, reskinned to be with her hair. Revealed in a September direct.

Shadow (Sonic): Sonic echo with Mewtwo's Up B and Bayonetta's Down B. Revealed in November.

Isabelle (Villager): The new face of Animal Crossing, ideally unique but works well enough as an echo. Revealed in September with Dixie.

Ken (Ryu): Training Wheels Ryu with no imputs. Revealed in November with Shadow.

Octoling (Inkling): Pretty easy guess, uses Splatoon 2 design and weapons. Not origially planned, it was a personal request by the Splatoon 2 development team to coincide with the "Year of the Octoling". IDK when she's revealed.

Blaziken (Captian Falcon): Actually plausible in my eyes, though the least safe newcomer on my roster. He's a very popular Pokemon, which was only enhanced by the Ballot coinciding with ORAS. While not enough to be unique, it could be enough to be an echo, of which he fits over Falcon perfectly. Revealed with Lycanroc.

I saw someone mention Deathborn in some capacity but he would be the best thing for Sakurai to pull out of nowehere, everyone expects Black Shadow and he gets in but then boom, Deathborn kills him (as is tradition in Ultimate) and is also a fighter. He'd be so cool.

At most he'd probably just be a boss though... which is also cool.

Echo predictions

• Shadow for Sonic - The obvious pick and seemingly the most likely one. I could see them ditching the spring for a teleport Up-B but otherwise Sonic's moveset is tailor made for Shadow as well.
• Ken (and possibly Akuma) for Ryu - I could see both getting in, but I mostly see only Ken. He's the OG clone and would work off Ryu's skeleton easily. But I do hope they give him his unique normals and the like, to be more accurately represented. Same goes for Akuma if he ever got on
• Black Knight for Ike - Another ez choice, at least that's what I think. Him and Ike canonically even fight the same, it writes itself. Plus more villains wouldn't hurt.
• Octoling for Inkling - Pretty much writes itself too, but I can easily this being DLC later down the pipeline.
• Morpho Knight for Meta Knight - This is a wild one I just wanted to throw in lol.
• Protoman (and possibly Bass) for Mega Man - Another wild prediction, they could get the variation of moves that were cut from 4 like Tornado Hold, Skull Barrier, etc etc. Final Smash would be the same, just change the position of the characters depending on who is using it lol.
• Isabelle for Villager - Writes itself, could also see her as her own character tho
• Louie for Olimar - RIP Alph lmao.
• Ninten for Ness - I mean I think it'd just be neat to have all 3 Mother protags together. I don't think this is happening though.
• Malos for Shulk - lolXenoblade2spoilers
• Dixie for Diddy - I think she'll be in, but whether she's an echo or just a semi cloned character is more on what I'm mixed about.

I don't mean to be disrespectful at all my friend but this is just dumb.
Metroid's been dead for years and is only recently returning, and has 4 reps.
F-Zero was pretty popular back in its day. Got a 50 episode anime, plenty of games over the console generations, and still sees love today.
Also, by this logic, Golden Sun doesn't deserve any characters either. How do you feel about that?
BTW, it's an Echo-way different than a full on newcomer. Why does Gen 3 suddenly deserve a rep, over a second rep for a classic, well-loved, still-popular first party series that wouldn't require much dev time in the slightest?

So my personal prediction of Echoes.

45e Isabelle: Very popular and rumored to be in and her AT is still MIA. Most likely echo right now.
38e Shadow: Only evidence is AT missing. Even though he's still controversial, he's still popular.
60e Ken: Hinted at by Vergeben plus the sudden jump in Street Fighter songs.
32e Black Knight: DLC Mii Costume released in the same wave as King K. Rool and Chrom, Chrom is an echo of Roy, the portrait in the Castle Siege stage being changed. He's also the most popular FE villain.
17e Hilda: Zelda being based on her ALTTP/ALBW design, and the fact that she doesn't have a Hilda theme or Hilda ALT so far.
10e Ninten: The last of the three Earthbound/MOTHER protagonists not in yet, and the Earthbound representation being much greater right now.

Wishful Choice

2e Funky Kong: He is a popular character, to the point of being in Mario Kart Wii and could be DLC in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe if the rumors of the game getting more DLC is true. But I'm not sure about his chances.
11e Black Shadow: Mainly to give F-Zero a 2nd rep after being snubbed for four games. There's no clear evidence of his inclusion yet unfortunately.

Uh, how does black shadow not fit falcon's proportions? they have exactly the same body type, he seems taller but height is never consistent in smash. And him being a ganondorf echo makes no sense since he doesn't have a sword, and doesn't he have electric powers in GX as well? makes perfect sense to just make him an electric falcon

This isn't really that wild of a claim. If it's not the most popular, it's definitely in the top 3 of at least that generation.

Blaziken has been a huge fan favorite among the Pokemon fanbase for ages now.

(I don't think it'll be in Smash under any circumstances though.)

I don't disagree that he's popular, I'd definitely place him along the top 10. I love the guy myself. But it is very much a big assumption to say he's the #1 king of Gen 3.
Like...we got Gardevoir that gen, folks.

Until I see an actual out-of-series Echo (that probably won't be Blaziken or Giygas or whatever), I don't know if that can even be a realistic thing. Definitely plausible, but we have yet to see it.
