I thought Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex only released on PlayStation 2, huh.

Well I guess disregard my comment then.

Well, the PS2 version did come out first, so I guess it's understandable why people would think that.

And yeah, as pointed out, Crash had quite the number of games spanning GC, Wii, GBA, and DS.

I think ALL the Smash 4 third party characters are going to return, and they're going to add some new ones as well. I think it's very likely we'll see a second Sonic rep, the return of Konami reps, and very possibly the first western third party guest character in the game. Who will it be? Rayman? Crash? Master Chief?

My wish for a western character will always be Earthworm Jim until the end of time, but I know that's a super long shot. Barring the creation of a new game of his that sells gangbusters it's likely not happening.

I think we’ll get a new third party even if it is a port. When it comes to hype, which translates to buzz, which translates to sales, one third party is usually equal to like a half-dozen Nintendo characters at this point. Not expecting more than one though.

And if it’s a completely new title, I think new third parties are basically a given. They’re a staple now.

And given your last post, EarthWorm Jim (or anything from that old claymates studio) has got to be some of the cheapest rights you can get this side of clay fighter. I bought the DS port of the original. That studio couldn’t have paid much.

Heck, they could make him first party if they wanted.

The studio that currently owns Earthworm Jim (Interplay) is selling all of their IPs. However, the stipulation is that they are being sold as a single asset, so whoever is buying Interplay's IPs has to agree to buy ALL of them.

Licensing fees cost significantly less than actually buying the intellectual property. And the fact is Jim is simply not relevant these days. So the only way I see him getting into Smash is if he gets a new game.

He didn't have anything in 1996. His first game came out in 1994 and his second was in 1995, same year as Yoshi's Island and Diddy's Kong Quest. Then he had a cartoon series in the same year and we didn't see another new game of his until EWJ3D in 1999.

I don't even play Xenoblade and Rex & Pyra is my top request after Waluigi. Those two are so cute together. When I was 13 I played Spirit Tracks and Link & Zelda's relationship inspired me to write romance fiction. That's a very personal game to me now. Probably my third favorite Zelda game. The touch screen controls are surprisingly fun and make for fun dungeons.

If I had to pick five characters I want the most.

What Metorid bias we will get when Ridley had been completely shot down and I don't see any of the hunters being in a better position?

Sylux being the next main antagonist won't make a difference. If he were the antagonist of the overall series then he'd have a chance. Being the antagonist of whatever the newest installment is doesn't seem to be a character that usually ends up in Smash.

Yeah, hence why I doubt Namco having to do with Metroid Prime 3 would automatically mean Metroid bias.

One third party that people seem to not talk about as much is Crash Bandicoot. If he was added it would make the perfect "rivals" fit, Mario ( Nintendo ), Sonic ( SEGA ), and Crash Bandicoot ( Not from Sony but rather a large symbol of the early PlayStation days ). Crash Bandicoot may not be as popular as he once was but the way I see it, it would be really interesting and surprising to see him in the game. Crash Bandicoot does have low chances because he does not have many support compared to other third parties and he would face a lot of competition from other third party characters.

The N. Sane Trilogy is selling like water, i think it's safe to say Crash is regaining his popularity right now.

Honestly, I think the reason people don't talk as much about crash is because a lot think he's a Sony IP and that he has no chance because of it, even if he's been on nintendo consoles since 2002. There's a lot of ignorance surounding the character.

Btw, Twinsanity was planned to be released on GC but actually didn't because of time constaints. That game's development was a mess anyway

Thing is, it's hard to read sarcasm on the Internet without emotes whatsoever.

Someone can say "Ridley confirmed" and it could still be a misunderstanding.

On a similar note, I doubt Xenoblade 2 bias will be a thing either since Sakurai will be less involved with Smash.

Guys, we all know the only "bias" exists is Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus. Sarcasm completely intended.

And yeah, I seriously doubt Xenoblade "bias" would ever be a thing.

I agree. Sakurai bias is only a myth; not to say that it doesn't exist, but everyone, no matter who you are, is going to have bias towards the stuff you want when you make a game. It is almost impossible to make a Smash roster without showing some degree of bias.

That being said, I don't care what director is biased to what when Smash 5 is made. Just give me a good roster and I'm happy.

Another third party option I think we could see is Jibanyan. Nintendo seems to love Yo-Kai Watch and regardless of my opinion it would make lots of casual fans happy to see this new face added.

I think the three most likely third party candidates for Smash 5 are:
1. Rayman
2. Jibanyan
3. Solid Snake

With maybe Banjo-Kazooie and a second Sonic rep after those.

I really doubt Shulk's not gonna get replaced by Rex & Pyra. I don't think the "face of the series" thing really applies to him as much as Marth or Ness. Xenoblade getting in Smash was generous on its own anyway.

Probably someone who's heavily requested, like Rayman or Banjo & Kazooie, or someone who's just a flat-out gaming celebrity, like Master Chief or Steve from Minecraft.

Those are the only ones that come to mind. Not that I think it makes that much of a difference, any third party character would generate a lot of hype.

I really doubt Shulk's not gonna get replaced by Rex & Pyra. I don't think the "face of the series" thing really applies to him as much as Marth or Ness. Xenoblade getting in Smash was generous on its own anyway.

Don't really see Shulk getting the boot. Then again, I don't see Xenoblade Chronicles 2 getting playable representation as very likely so who am I to say?

I should mention that Ness was originally going to be replaced with Lucas early in development for Melee, though it was decided against, so at least at some point Ness' "face of the series" attribute didn't matter that much.

Rayman or Bomberman I guess? but honesty I don't think they really need to. They don't have to keep one-upping themselves. Smash Bros sells like hot cakes anyway, they just gotta keep adding new characters and keep the game feeling fresh and fun and people will buy it.

Yes so in 1996 he’d be riding off two games and a tv show. It’d be the best year for him.

Crash, Master Chief and the fella from Minecraft are the only ones that spring to mind that would generate universal, mainstream hype. Maybe Bomberman as well.

Crash, Rayman, Bomberman and Banjo as newcomers would be glorious! A man can dream...

IIRC, the only ones who could qualify as "main characters" are Pikachu, Mewtwo, Lucario and Greninja, and that's only because of the anime.

Are you saying none of the other characters are nor deserve to be All-Stars even though they're from Nintendo's second most successful IP?

EDIT: Actually, Greninja doesn't even count since he was put in the roster before X and Y were even released, let alone getting relevance in the anime.

Master Chief, Sora and Steve come to mind.

Banjo among the more hardcore. People raise Crash, and maybe it’s just me, but I see him more along the Ryu “big name but not groundbreaking” territory. It’s been a while since he was a Sony character imo.

Whether or not Xenoblade gets a newcomer, I doubt Shulk is getting cut.

Honestly when it comes to third party cuts, I think it really depends on why Snake was cut.

If Snake was cut specifically due to Konami or a problem specific to Snake (weapons maybe), I'd say all of them were safe barring unforseen incidents.

If Snake was cut due to a desire of having revolving doors, we have some third parties in trouble.

I really wish we knew why Snake was cut.

I know that there are cases where some want Baby Mario to stand on his own as a character, just that the duo idea is the most popular as far as I see.

And if we think about it, Baby Mario does have more significance than Baby Luigi (who was a baby in distress in the first game).

eh personally I just think that would make Ice Climbers less unique if they come back too, but that's just me.

I'd rather have standalone Baby Mario with Koopaling-styled alts for Baby Luigi and Baby Peach. Maybe a few others as well, but those two are the most likely ones.
