Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Thinking things over, what would you say the chances of each of the characters that were dropped are of coming back in an enhanced port/new game?

:younglinkmelee: Low due to Toon Link basically being the same character but this boy:roymelee: proved me wrong before
:pichumelee:Needs some buffs and has to compete with newer AND Gen 1 Pokemon, so unlikley
:icsmelee::popo:If the Swtich can handle 16 characters on screen at once then why not? They'd be fun esp. since chaingrabbing got nerfed.
:pt:Unless the two below return and can be played individually or as a team with :006:, I don't see it
:squirtle:A lot of Pokemon to compete against but was a popular Gen 1 Pokemon. That's a VIP pass basically
:ivysaur:Poor, filling a slot Ivysaur. You were so fun to play as, but I can't see you returning
:wolf:Lucas got back as DLC so I don't see why not. Plus SFZ finally gave Star Wolf land vehicles to use (in a sense)
:snake:Konami has pulled back slightly on their "burn games section to the ground and divert it to PACHINKO" stance but still unlikley to me.
:younglinkmelee:: I would say low because of Toon Link just outclassing him in general. ( Roy and Marth are more different in series than Toon Link / Young Link ).
:pichumelee:: Near Impossible.
:icsmelee::popo:: I would say that the Ice Climbers are highly likely. Were not in due to technical difficulties, and I am sure the developers will not forget them.
:pt:: I see this one very unlikely. Charizard being alone and Squirtle / Ivysaur not being added is just unhealthy for his chances.
:squirtle:: Depends on if they are popular enough. Highly unlikely though.
:ivysaur:: Highly unlikely as well. Pokemon trainer being gone harms it's potential a lot.
:wolf:: I see a chance. May of not been added into Smash 4, but I am sure they can work him in. He did get some new techniques after Smash 4.
:snake:: All depends on Konami. My most wanted one out of the removed newcomers that were listed by far.
Inklings and Isabelle are two of the standouts IMO.
What about Springman from ARMS?

Springman has dog doo hair.

Anyway, the Ice Climbers should do pairs ice skating for their trailer.

Here’s the results, winner is who we all expected. King K Rool.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

He dominated the whole time while it was Dixie and Funky who fought each other for that second spot. Cranky fell pretty hard compared to the last time. Poor old ape.

The next one will be the last DK related poll. Half of it will be classic DK and the other half are the 64 Kongs that stayed relevant (Tiny and Lanky). Tune in until next time.

Toad? Dixie Kong? King K. Rool? Impa? Bandana Dee? Slippy Toad? Isabelle? Tom Nook, even? Inkling?
Apart from the Inklings, those are all secondary or tertiary characters.

For main characters, I think Lip and Takamaru should finally get the Smash debut they've been waiting for. But it's true that Nintendo is running out of stars to add.

IMO There's no need for a Young Link to return since we already have a lighter, weaker but faster Link and even with a different artstyle.

Here’s the results, winner is who we all expected. King K Rool.

Note the question wasn't "what main characters aren't there?" it's "what all-stars are left?" Are you trying to tell me that none of these are iconic in their own right?

:popo: - Depends on if there's any technical hurdles in their way.
:wolf: - Depends on priority.
:snake::ivysaur::squirtle: - I'm not sure what to think of their chances at this point.

Toad is by far the most well-known Nintendo character not currently on the roster, apart from perhaps Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.

Whether that makes him an "All-Star" or not seems debatable, but I'd certainly reason he's an iconic video game character.

Not that I think he'll be included. I don't. But that's beside the point.

I think you could also extend the All-Star label to Ridley and obv Inkling. Possibly K. Rool and Dixie. There'll never be a true consensus, so I can only speak for me.

Not gonna be here long, but there's one thing I will say. No one agrees on what an all-star is. I've heard this argument numerous times throughout the years, and I've heard hundreds of different ideas of what an All-Star is.
Everything under the sun has had an argument for why they're a Nintendo All-Star and deserves the roster over like Jigglypuff. Mach Rider is a Nintendo All-Star. Nintendog is a Nintendo All-Star. Rayman? Oh he's def a Nintendo All-Star.

At the end of the day it all goes back to opinions. We can go back and forth of how Toad deserves it more than K.Rool or vice versa. But the ****ing Wii Fit Trainer is in Smash, and no one said Wii Fit Trainer was iconic back in Smash 4 days.

I agree, but I don't think that's the point anyone is trying to make. Otherwise the implication is we'd only be expecting like a half dozen characters at the most, one at the least.

Pretty much agree. I feel like an all-star is something that is iconic to a series or something that Sakurai would consider adding. I would say the closest all-star to being added is Toad, second those three you mentioned and third Inkling. The Inklings would be pretty fun to play, just curious how they would work their move-set through.

Guys there's no use arguing what an all star, iconic character is to somebody who claims Bayonetta is iconic and that's why she's in Smash
Still mad I proved you wrong?

You can do better than the passive aggressive attacks.

Well, really the term All-Star refers to a group. This video game features stars. All of them are stars. All-Stars.

You didn't make that very clear in your first reply.

Kinda implied that you thought only Inklings fit the bill.

There's a difference between being wrong and being nagged at by outright stupid logic that only applies to you but whatever makes you sleep at night

Besides, ever since Roy got in Melee Smash lost the "NINTENDO'S FINEST ALL STARS!" claim as Roy's game didn't even come out until after Melee

Fair point.

I'm just so upset we haven't gotten Henry Fleming yet considering he's the protagonist of his game and therefore an All-Star.
Sorry Opossum.

Neither is Bowser Jr., of course.

Or Ganondorf for that matter.
Hell, even Mewtwo isn't an All-Star.

Let me use this as an example, let's say all those characters got added in and nobody else, would you say they would significantly boost the sales of the game? None of them really seem to do much to broaden the audience of the game since they only appeal to a subset of the same audience that's already been buying Smash games. Which isn't to say they shouldn't be in, but if you're making a new Smash game, you're gonna need more than just those characters.

The addition of third party characters has been a great boon to the game because it reaches out to people who would have never played Smash otherwise.

As for the constant replies saying that Bowser/Mewtwo/etc. isn't a star "by my logic", that's just a strawman and I'm not gonna touch it.

I made great efforts to post a very elaborate and researched post dissecting your arguments as to why she wasn't iconic and waited for your reply, which I did not receive, even though you did see the post. You walked away from it in frustration and anger. That means you lost the argument. You don't have to resort to name-calling just because you're upset about it.

Not to mention that if you've played New Leaf and basically any SF game (other than Adventures) you'll see what a significant portion of screentime Isabelle and Slippy take apart from anyone who isn't Villager and Fox.

ooooooooooooooooooook this is starting to get in blaming territory.

I suggest we drop this argument before things get dicey.

To help bring up a new subject, what new Nintendo franchises do you all think are likely to get in Smash 5?

Splatoon, ARMS, maybe Rhythm Heaven.

Can we get back to the argument now?

I didn't walk away in frustration and anger for having no argument, I walked away because the argument was going nowhere and I'd rather talk to a literal wall than a figurative one. But hey lets pretend you didn't just ignore whatever I said either so you can claim the argumentive high ground

And it's clear from your replies that you're rather incensed by this (or just unhinged in general, judging by how your earlier replies were extremely similar) so either way I can see trying to reason with you is pointless.

I do expect to see ARMS and Splatoon reps, but I'm hoping that some more obscure picks can finally see the light of day. The Panel de Pon community has been waiting for so long for Lip to appear.

I'd argue Isabelle is one, at least. She's been the face of Animal Crossing's marketing since its popularity exploded with New Leaf. And she got into a mainline Mario Kart game as DLC. That definitely counts for something.

Fair point.

It's okay. I forgive you, and so do the other eight people who played Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.

Bull****. You yourself said that K. Rool and Dixie don't count because they're secondary/tertiary characters and thus aren't all-stars. We call this hypocrisy. Looks like you're abandoning your own criteria to make yourself look better and because people called you out on your nonsense.
