Hm, if this is the one then I can't see anything notably wrong with it to doubt it, but does Dante usually fight dragons? That part seems to be more Fire Emblem's deal then Devil May Cry based on what I know of both, so that seems like an odd way to introduce him when Ridley's, King K. Rool's, and Simon's/Richter's trailers are much more strongly tied to the themes of their respective series.

Okay, I personally have no issues with 3rd parties, it's just a multitude of issues, after bayonetta, I want more safe less insufferably flashy characters. For Instance, If Nintendo announces Blizzard will be contributing a character, I don't care if Overwatch is announced for switch, I'd still take a warcraft or starcraft character for years over that game even though neither series has touched a nintendo console ever (Starcraft 64 doesn't count don't tell me about it). This is because an overwatch character would inevitably be Tracer or Genji, and after my stint of mashing through Heroes of the Storm for half a year, I see nothing but anti fun bull**** that in Genji's case still hasn't been fixed after like 2 years (And I think Tracer recently returned to being bull****). Both of these characters are flashy, high mobility characters which seems to be a pattern in the experience here. If Nintendo Added a warcraft character, it would probably be someone like Thrall, Garrosh or Varian, who would be nowhere near as unfixably obnoxius due to their own "character fantasy". I'm just fed up over of overambitious developers trying to bring these fantasies into multiplayer games where some sucker has to be on the other end. Bayonetta and Dante are designed to have their flashy, over the top combo fantasies against AI grunts and bosses that don't feel emotion and will never understand the meaning of salt. Me logging into For Glory? I sure as hell will after the 10th bayo, the 11th dante and the 20th tracer.

4chan leaker got some stuff right about a DMC announcement, but also claimed Dante was in Smash.

From what I can gather, the Smash stuff was in a separate post later in the thread and the poster did not use a trip code. In other words, there is literally nothing backing this leak. It is incredibly common on 4chan for random people to post "more leaks" in an existing leak thread pretending to be the OP so that they gain credibility if the OP does. Unless it is in the first post or the leaker used a tripcode it has no credibility.

So unless I am misinformed and someone would like to correct me as to the link between the first post and the smash leak, this leak has absolutely no more credibility than the random "leaks" we see on 4chan multiple times a day. If anything I'd say it would have even less as there's no good explanation why someone with loads of intimate details on DMC games would know the exact details of a Smash reveal trailer.

Yeah, this. Though I gotta say the description is really detailed and I would go as far as to say it's very much like what Smash does in a whole.

EDIT: And Dante is the furthest you can get from Nintendo, barring Cloud (who is a huge icon and his series started on Nintendo so understandable)

When it comes to the base game of Ultimate, I personally Sakurai aiming give Capcom's biggest worldwide popular IPs like Resident Evil playable representatives. Devil May Cry getting a playable character is odd to me. Then again, at the time of the project plan in 2015 for the base game, DMC was Capcom's 4th biggest IP with worldwide popularity (Before Monster Hunter World made MH a worldwide phenomenon, becoming Capcom's 2nd biggest IP in 2018). I could see Dante happening if both a RE and DMC character had playable characters for Ultimate's base game.

I can see people who are pessimistic of "less iconic" characters like Phoenix Wright, Lloyd Irving, and a bunch of indie characters gain some hope if this leak becomes true. Dante is a very interesting scenario to think about.

not to mention the Pokémon Company has to be aware of how Super Smash Bros positively effects a character's or series' popularity and thus marketability. Making a less popular character into a more popular, and thus more marketable, one simply due to appearing in Smash rather then just making a popular one slightly more popular could be seen as a positive by them.

When the Pokemon Trainer was removed, Charizard was the only one of his Pokemon that stayed. I'm sure they want to consider already established popularity.

You are acting as if balancing isn't a thing

I would love to be proven wrong and dante is perfectly healthy, I would probably call him one of my favs, it's just that I don't expect them to balance, you can't really say smash has had the best record on balance, and from my experience of playing games like mobas, it's that you can nerf a character to oblivion and make a point to keep them out of meta, but they're still obnoxious to play against. A good example was the original version of Poppy in League of Legends, she was one of the worst characters in the game, but had an incredibly busted set of moves, with the ability to basically make yourself untargetable and invincible to all but one member of the enemy team. Smacking the nerf bat on her only just pushed the issue out of the way until the finally removed her and basically added a new character that shared her name and character design years later.

Some character designs are a mistake, and character fantasy can sometimes rub poorly with the rest of the game, playing against bayonetta feels like you're playing by her rules, not smashes, and i'm just concerned that sakurai is gonna be dumb enough to do it again.

I'm not overly concerned about the volume of 3rd Parties relative to the rest of the cast.

Besides, in the August Direct we got 5 new characters, two of which were 3rd Parties, if they keep the same pace, 1st Party Newcomers will outpace 3rd Party Newcomers anyway.
