The only third parties I want at this point are the big boys like Geno, Banjo, Rayman, Crash, or Spyro.
Once you start getting into smaller stuff like Dante the roster feels less like "Gaming icons!" and more like "Is he from a video game? throw him in!"

My only complaint with Dante is the fact that for anyone who hasn't touched a Nintendo console people look at Dante and say "literally who?". At least was recognizable if they remembered console wars. I think Devil May Cry would be the only series in which in the series in question has never been on a Nintendo platform. Even if FFVII is the only FF represented in Smash, the series itself was on Nintendo platforms before. DMC? hell nah dude i can't think of a single one.

A couple of thoughts on the "Anti-Third Party" thing:

• It's not that people have never played/hate anything that's not Nintendo, but part of what people loved about Smash is that it's a celebration of Nintendo and it's history. More and more Third Parties goes against that original appeal. Kind of like when your favorite Thai restaurant puts burgers on the menu. It's not a bad food, but if I wanted burgers, I'd go to a burger place. I came here because I was in the mood for Thai food!
• Third Parties DO "steal" spots. If Smash had a strict Only Nintendo rule, there's a lot of beloved/secondary characters that would get a shot. But when you've opened up to the best of the best from all of gaming? Not even going to get a mention.

Don't get me wrong, there's appeal and upside the Third Parties, but this attempt to paint people who liked Smash as a Nintendo cross-over as hateful/narrow-minded/uneducated isn't going to fly.

Third parties excite me far more than most Nintendo characters at this point. Like it's gotten to the point for me with new Nintendo IPs and all-stars that when they're introduced it's just ''Oh it's a matter of time before they're in Smash Brothers."

There's more excitement in seeing which companies Sakurai approached for third party content, because the Nintendo side of it all save his wtf and retro picks are SO easy to predict.

I rather like having third-parties (sig being the proof), as long as they're significant to Nintendo in some way. It would be interesting to see how far Sakurai can go to revive dead third-party characters like Simon and Richter.

Asking for random third-parties with little rhyme or reason would be unwise though.

Inside Lucario? DON'T GIVE THE FAN ARTISTS ANY IDEAS. Also, "Murder Now" is what most people would think about the Mii Fighters.

Fatal Frame isn’t as overtly bloody and its horror comes from exorcising evil spirits with a camera, so yeah

It’d probably be easier to include without raising the rating than RE or SH. Heck while it’s rather OOC I can buy the so called leaked Dante trailer concept if it’s to avoid rustling the ESRB’s jimmies

although my trailer concept in the Direct a Trailer thread is more true to Dante’s character without showing anything excessively violent also

Not to mention that the RE cast would have to go through Sakurai's customs to make sure they have weapons that aren't too realistic.

Smash is a celebration of Nintendo's history. 3rd parties also happen to be a part of that history.

That's why I'm okay with the abundance of them. As long as they had some role on a Nintendo system (and, you know, they're actually video game characters), I don't see why they should be excluded.
